I do hope you are not missing Eileen's bigger picture message that CW and/or BW's father should be initiating these and many efforts to garner media attention. Regular and on-going media attention seems to be so very important in these cases!

Big hug to you! You sound like you’re drowning and defensive. Step back and try to look objectively at the suggestions here – we all wish you well and that BW is found and safe.

I have a hard time criticizing CW or BW's father for not initiating these things. If it were my child, I probably would not be able to put together a coherent thought because my mind would be scrambling, i can't even imagine the emotions I'd be going through and I probably wouldn't even know what to do or say. I do wish there was a family member or close family friend though that could take on that role for the family. There was a point in time that I had hoped or thought RSW would assume that role. Obviously my thoughts on that have changed now.

Yes, a short clip is better than nothing. I was just trying to respond to the OP who assumed the family had not notified the media of the vigil, when in fact they had. The clip didn't make it to the website, so the assumption was that there was no media coverage. That just wasn't the case.

The family is trying to get media attention, but it's not working. That is why I suggested others try to get the media to pay attention.

I am weary. I've been here many times daily spending hours reading and answering what feels like hundreds of questions, many of them the same questions. But now it seems like there is more criticism of the family than I believe is deserved. I don't know how anyone can be on the outside and begin to assume they know what these people are doing or not doing just because they don't see it on the news or read it on their facebook pages. So, if I seem defensive, that's why.

I will add that my hope is that the same can be said of LE. Hopefully just because we don't read or hear about what they are or are not doing doesn't mean they are doing nothing. Just as the family, hopefully it means LE is in fact hard at work and we need to trust and understand that.

Yes Yes it can but somethings are very clear and in the timeline. For example just a few posts up it is asked if DH commits suicide on 05/31 around the time of BWs last ping. If the timeline was read then it would be known we have DHs suicide as 06/01. I am not being ugly I promise. However reclarifying things that have already been answered several times clogs the threads up and has others not wanting to read all the threads to catch up. As you can tell from the drop in comments here...i believe frustration of seeing the same posts could be a part of it. I hope everyone stays here and continues to rack our brains so we can continue to keep focus on finding BW. All I ask is please read the threads...study the timeline. Post questions with correct dates and times to the best of everyones ability!! This is a great group of people

I agree that things have been/are very confusing with this case. Statements, times, locations and more have changed so many times that I can tell you I have a hard time keeping it straight at times, even though I have read every post and timeline.

I received official approval from Tricia for us to work together to gather information at the request of Brittney's family that will assist with distributing her missing person flyer to as many places as possible.

Ideally, if possible - they would like to start sending out the flyers in advance of the holiday in order to reach the influx of visitors to the area for the 4th of July festivities.

If folks can help me with gathering fax numbers and/or email addresses for the following types of facilities within 100 miles of Mobile, I will enter the information into a spreadsheet and I will forward it to the family.

PLEASE - work from the inside out; begin with locations closest to Mobile and expand out to further locations.

I will need the type of facility (hospital, hotel, etc...), the full name of the facility, their complete address or at least city & state, email address or website (if available), phone & especially their fax number.

To avoid duplication of efforts please indicate which facilities you can volunteer to research and if other locations/types of facilities should be added:

1. Hospitals
2. Immediate Care Centers ("Doc in a Box" type)
3. Women's Clinics
4. Homeless Shelters - data has been collected
5. Rehab facilities
6. Jails/Prisons
7. Truck Stops (and/or central fax number)

I feel like I've provided all the relevant information that I am able to at this point. There is still quite a bit of confusion, but I am just making the thread longer by posting the clarifications. I'm repeating myself most of the time, so the information is there to be read.

Some posts are quoting comments from MSM outlets websites and facebook as though the comments are MSM reports, which I feel just adds to the confusion.

These "quotes" are coming from some family members..Most of the time that would be more helpful then what MSM reports but in this case, unfortunately, that's not the case..All that 'talking' is causing more harm then good..And it is def adding to the confusion..I'm not including CW in this 'mess' or anyone else in her immediate family..Just to be clear!

This is why:

Because people think that her phone was turned on six days after she went missing. That is what was reported through the media. Now, Zeaux has informed us that that was incorrect information and the phone was not really turned on. But, that has not been corrected through the media. General public thinks her phone was turned on and assume that means she is just hiding somewhere and that belief is further strengthened in their minds because the focus of the last couple of public appeals was for Brittney to just come home, don't worry about being in trouble, just call us, just let us know you are o.k. People now are seeing this as a family issue and not a possible criminal issue. That is MOO but I am convinced of it.

People (general public) aren't focusing on Brittney and so the media is not focusing on Brittney.

Having said that, there are still some people who are talking and wondering about Brittney so momentum could pick back up quickly and I hope this erroneous information about her cell phone being turned on six days after she went missing will get cleared up through the media and SOON.

I know this because I have been talking to people about BW constantly and everyone thinks her phone was turned on, she must be hiding, she'll come home when she is ready to do so.

every time new information is confirmed, it is on the local news there. i just think things are slowing down. nothing new has really happened since the vigil (that was covered by tv stations. another thing, this family spokesman, the 'chaplain' is not a good spokesman. he seems to have no clue, and i wouldn't be surprised if the news agencies in mobile stopped caring because they are tired of dealing with this buffoon.
if the family wants more coverage, they would speak directly to the cameras.

Earlier everyone was discussing why BW's case hasn't been getting as much media attention as you might think, especially after the uncles were arrested. I want to be careful how I word the following information because I don't want to break any of the rules on here. Ive read them, but I'm still new, so please let me know if I need to remove or change anything:

I am fairly confident that one big *reason why *BW story has not taken off in the media, as one might expect (especially when the charges against the uncles were announced), is due to DK's connections. At first, I was not aware of who his people are, but they are a fairly respected and popular in the state. I think this is why some, especially news outlets, are turning their heads. Even though BW family might not have stature, etc...some individuals connected with DK do.*

Also, *I do know some of them contribute a lot of their time to assist individuals and help their community. They are quite a contrast to some of the other people's behavior we have seen on FB. From what Ive personally encountered they are very kind and hard-working. I am quite sure they are hurt with everything going on, not just because of DK but because BW is missing. Even though DK married into a family very different from theirs, they have always been kind to MWK and her family regardless. With that said, I do not think they are trying to keep BW story hush or are trying to hide anything. I think the media and others are trying to shy away from this fact because they don't want to be criticized for airing out the community's dirty laundry.

IMOO this is why the media and maybe some others in the area seem hesitant to discuss it more, at least not until anyone is convicted of charges. I could be wrong, and again, I am not in any way trying instigate controversy or point fingers because enough people have already been devastated by the actions of a few. Also, those connected with DK could very well be helping in the efforts to find BW...so I'm def. not pointing fingers or being negative towards others.

But, it's of course NOT right for the media to refuse to cover BW or for others to ignore her story for this reason...(if this in fact is the reason.)

At this point, I think it would be VERY helpful for people outside of the community to help search for BW (such as in the earlier post). This way, no one will be concerned about stepping on their neighbor's toes ...which they should NOT concerned about this anyway!!!!! I hope this sheds some light on the media reservations.

Also, DK was an assistant coach for his son's t-ball team. I must admit this worries me! I don't know how long he had been doing this for. IMOO I think MWK, WWH and DH are part of the rest of the DK / RSW " iceberg". I think others on BW side are too, but not anyone that's been mentioned on here previously. I am not sure how BW fits into all of this, but I do think she found something out and because of it she's either seriously hiding, or one of the players in the current sex abuse allegations took things with her into their own hands. I pray she's only temporarily gone. That's why these search efforts are so important.

The question was regarding the quotes from LE in the linked article stating:

Yes, our timeline has DH's suicide on 6/1, but the LE's quote was stating something different. That was the point I was trying to make and wanting to be sure I was reading it correctly. I have read all the threads and timeline several times and this happened to jump out at me as not matching up to the info in the timeline…and it was coming from LE.
-another inconsistency in this case (go figure!)

Regarding clogging up the threads…MOO…posters asking questions and wanting clarifications to me shows interest in this case and wanting to get involved for BW. Often times the way they are asked/phrased can spark a new thought or way of looking at a tidbit of info. Personally I would rather a simple reference to a previous post # or link to the timeline would be more welcoming. MOO

If you do not subscribe to a newspaper, you really shouldn't expect to see any newspaper coverage. I think TV news is the same way. They have cut staff, too. Plus, TV news is very much focused on the latest news. As a story grows older, it becomes less attractive to TV news producers. They're looking for the next big story, and they're looking to report what viewers want. Unfortunately, many people do not care about a girl who has been missing for a month.

The media also is in the busy of reporting facts. There have been almost no new facts for several weeks. A dedicated investigative journalist might uncover some new information, but it's unlikely that family members or LE would corroborate the information. Plus, newspapers and TV stations do not have investigative journalists on staff. The reporters are busy and do not have the time to spend on one story.

I would also like to say that I think LE, in some cases, is in a similar position. This is only my uninformed personal opinion. So take it with a grain of salt. They do not have the money nor the staff to spend a long time on one case. This case likely has cost police departments and their respective cities a lot of money. And it's difficult for them to continue with that when they hit a roadblock. So the case goes from active with 10 officers involved to semi-active with two officers involved.

BBM. Thanks for offering your insight. Everything you said makes complete sense. In respect to staff reductions, I think that there are many times that reporters want to spend more time on a particular story. They just don't have the final say on what is reported. In this case, I saw where one of the reporters responded to comments on the station's FB page. So, I know that reporter was at least watching for interest in this case. When public interest didn't pick up, the story began to die out. And, as you said, there have been no new facts or leads that law enforcement is willing to share.

FootballMom - I have begun working on the list of gas stations. It's a long list. Who knew there were that many gas stations in the Mobile area? Fax numbers are not available, even on the corporate sites for these places. As far as a faxing campaign, these places may not be a good fit. I am thinking that if the family split the list up they might be able to hand out fliers directly or perhaps do some sort of mass mailing. I am sure that they have already covered some of these places.

I am going through my list and trying to come up with an effective strategy, so more to come. Since the list is so long, what would be the best way to send it to you without bogging down the discussion thread?
