It's been nearly six months since anyone has seen or heard from a Tuscaloosa County man, and investigators said leads in the case are growing cold.

(...)

"Well, the investigation is kind of at a standstill. You know at first, leads were coming in pretty regularly and we were following up on every leads that was given to us. Now, the leads have slowed,” said Kenny Shipman, with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Human remains found by loggers in Tuscaloosa County; likely victim of homicide

"...The remains will be sent to Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for examination and identification. Based on evidence recovered at the scene, Hart said detectives do believe the victim died from foul play. The cause of death has not been determined. He said they are not speculating as to the identity of the victim, despite the proximity - about four or five miles - from the home of Emmett Kyzer, who vanished last year..."

Just saw this, how sad.

Also, one link says no bond and the other says he bonded out?

Johnny Farley, of Tuscaloosa, faces four counts of burglary and is being held on $60,000 bond, but bond has been revoked due to a previous charge.

[h=3]Search continues for Tuscaloosa man missing more than a year[/h]
"I do believe that we over the course of this investigation over the past year, that we have spoken to the people that are responsible for this," Capt. Kip Hart with the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit explained.

Hart said they're still chasing leads in Kyzer's disappearance, but they have not collected enough evidence to make an arrest in the case.

"It's been more than a year, so I would hope that these people realize that they have a conscience. I mean nobody deserves what happened and need to come forward," Hart went on say.

On March 29, skeletal remains were found in the Cedar Cover Technology Park near Kyzer's home.
They were in a condition that made it hard for forensic scientists to immediately identify who they are.

Very sad. 2 people lived with Emmett , a man and the woman , Emmett wanted them to leave his house and then he disappeared , it's obviously that these 2 are very Significant suspects.I wonder if the police investigators put a real pressure on these people.

ETA - So happy to see an arrest! #JusticeforEmmettKyzer

Police say a jailhouse informant’s decision to come forward helped break the case of what happened to Emmett Kyzer.

On Sunday, investigators who have spent the last 19 months working the case charged Clifford Sinclair Madison, 53, with his murder.

Madison was arrested early Sunday morning on an unrelated criminal trespassing charge.

Investigators do not expect to make any more arrests in the case, said Capt. Kip Hart, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit assistant commander.

Although they don’t know the cause of death and haven’t positively identified the remains found off Ed Stephens Road as Kyzer, investigators say they feel confident they’ve arrested the man responsible.

[h=1]82-year-old Emmett Kyzer was fatally stabbed, beaten and then discarded, authorities say[/h]
Though remains found last year by loggers in Tuscaloosa County have been long believed to be those of 82-year-old Emmett Kyzer, authorities on Monday said that has now been officially confirmed.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences on Monday formally identified the skeletal remains found on March 28th, 2017 as those of Kyzer, who disappeared from his home in June 2016. Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Capt. Kip Hart said witnesses and evidence show that Kyzer was beaten and stabbed at his home before being dumped at the Ed Stephens Road location where his remains were later found.

[h=1]Probe uncovered suspect’s ex’s abuse claims in Kyzer case[/h]
Investigators who worked nearly 19 months to learn what happened to Emmett Kyzer suspected Clifford Madison from the day Kyzer’s family reported him missing.

Their suspicions weren’t enough to file a murder charge against him until his ex-girlfriend came forward in January. Now, the prosecution’s case against Madison is based on the statements of a woman who kept quiet out of fear of an abusive boyfriend, according to police.
Investigator Marcus Bell took the woman’s statement last month, saying she confessed to her role in the case while she and Madison were both in jail on domestic violence charges. She has not been charged in the Kyzer case.

“She was scared, she said Cliff had been beating her,” Bell testified. “She was terrified.”

Defense attorney Eric Snow asked Bell whether the information in the woman’s statement could have been revealed to her during prior police interviews or through media coverage of the highly publicized case.

“Right now, the only thing you have that ties Clifford Madison to this murder charge is (her) statement,” Snow said.
When she spoke to police, Madison’s ex-girlfriend said Kyzer had asked the couple to leave his home before the attack. She said she was inside when she heard Kyzer calling for help so she walked out and saw Madison beating him with a bat that eventually broke.

“She said Emmett looked at her and asked for help, and that his head was cracked open,” Bell said, holding his hand up to the center of his forehead. Madison yelled at her to “go get me something,” Bell said, so she returned with a wooden-handled icepick that he used to stab Kyzer’s hand, chest and neck. They loaded his body on a golf cart, Bell said, and waited until dark to use a pulley to place him in the back of his own truck before driving to the site on Ed Stephens Road.

Investigators spoke to a couple who gave them a ride from Kyzer’s home the next day.

“They said they were sweating, they were moving very fast and acting like they were ready to get away from there,” Bell said.
