Numerous first responders are on the scene of a “suspicious death” in Florence.

Officials say the dead body was found lying in Sweetwater Creek near the intersection of N. Patton Street and Sweetwater Ave.

They say the deceased looked as if they had been there for a prolonged time.

An article from WHNT does not specify that the body was found lying in Sweetwater Creek, only "near the intersection of North Patton Street and Sweetwater Avenue." Additionally, the WHNT states officials told reporters they "thought the remains could have been there for a week or so."

Body found in Sweetwater Creek in Florence

FLORENCE — Police are investigating the discovery of a decomposing body that was found Friday afternoon in Sweetwater Creek.

This article states the body was found in the "shallow end" of Sweetwater Creek and interestingly, it also states the body is of a male.

"We received a call about an individual in the creek," [Police Sgt. Ryan Kelly] said. "He has been deceased for quite a bit of time. There was quite a bit of decomposition."

The area where the body was found is in the creek in a deep ravine below an overpass. The body was found in the water.

Kelly said the water is approximately ankle to knee deep, depending on the area.
