CRIME STOPPERS OFFERING REWARD

In a press conference held at their headquarters downtown, Birmingham Police say Crime Stoppers is offering $20,000 reward in addition to the Governor’s $5,000 reward.

“I wanted to reach out to just one individual. If you know where Kamille is…if you have her and you’re not sure what to do…I want to give you safe passage,” Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith says.

Chief Smith says it’s a possibility Kamille is being moved around to different locations. He asks anyone with information, including video, to come forward, promising anonymity.

Birmingham police chief to Kamille McKinney’s captor: ‘I want to talk to you’
[...]

“I want to reach out to one individual,’’ Smith said Wednesday at an afternoon press conference. “If you know where Kamille is, if you have her and you’re not sure what to do, I want to talk to you.”

“Safe Passage is the way to go. Please bring her to one of our fire stations, the police station, a hospital,’’ the chief said. “If you don’t know what to do or where to go and you’re frightened, we’re here to help you.”

“Our goal is reunite this 3-year-old baby with her family,’’ the chief continued. “I’m asking now if you know where Kamille is that you contact us, that you please bring her to a safe location, and we’ll follow up from there. We need your help.”

[...]

“What we’re doing is appealing to a certain segment of people who may have information to her whereabouts,’’ Smith said.

[...]

“We believe that you know where she is and we believe that someone has her,’’ Smith said. “Please bring this to a safe end and place her back into the arms of her family and law enforcement.”

Search for Kamille McKinney: How to help, how not to help
[...]

Barefield said there has been a generous outpouring of support. “A lot of agencies don’t pay a reward until the conviction of an offender,’’ Barefield said. “With Crime Stoppers, your tip only has to assist law enforcement in solving that crime.”

“We approve our rewards weekly so you could literally call with a tip today and pick up your money cash next with and you’re totally anonymous,’’ Barefield said. “There’s no better deal in town.”

What you can do:

[...]

- Those who want to conduct ground searches are asked to coordinate with the Birmingham Police Department’s command post set up on Messer-Airport Highway. “If they need help in the search, they’ll gladly let you.”

- Come forward with any store surveillance video or cell phone video that was taken near the area of the abduction Saturday night. There are multiple business around Tom Brown Village, and authorities believe several gatherings were happening at Tom Brown Village at the time Kamille was abducted.
  • Police have one piece of advice of what not to do:
Refrain from disseminating undocumented information on social media.
“We have to chase down bad leads when we’re forwarded information that people have seen on social media,’’ Williams said. “That slows down our resources that we can have in other places. That would be a tremendous help.”

The chief agreed. “We are here conducting a real investigation, and this is a very sensitive investigation,’’ Smith said. “It’s one that’s pulled on the heartstrings of the community and the nation and everyone wants to see this young child alive…back with her family…safe. It’s not something to play with. Leave it alone on Facebook.”

OCT 16, 2019 - Tip from a bounty hunter
Search Continues For 3-Year-Old Alabama Girl Who Authorities Fear Was Snatched From Birthday Party
[...]

Police had descended on a Birmingham neighborhood Wednesday morning and set up a perimeter following a bounty hunter tip related to McKinney’s disappearance. However, the child's whereabouts, as of Wednesday afternoon, remain unknown.

"She might not even remember who you are, so if you have any heart, please let her go," Jasmaine Deloach of Angel Arms Operation Exploited and Missing Persons in Birmingham pleaded during a vigil for McKinney on Monday evening, according to ABC News.

"She's a little kid that barely probably can even say what color you are,” Deloach added. "I do not want you to harm her. Don't have any kind of hate in your heart to hurt that child. We're asking and we're begging and we're pleading ... bring this baby home."

Search experts warn social media could hurt kidnapping investigation
Search experts caution you may be slowing down the investigation into Kamille McKinney’s kidnapping through social media.

“You have to be very careful about the message that gets out - you’re not a detective,” said David White, Assistant Search Director with EquuSearch.

[...]

“This is not something to play with. Leave it alone on Facebook. Give us credible information and work with us to resolve it,” said Smith.

Members of the national missing person search agency EquuSearch say in these cases, police are tracking all information. When they have to search through discussions and chat rooms, it’s wasting time.

[...]

According to White, he’s not sure if the team plan to come to the area to assist in Kamille’s search. He says that’s something that’s coordinated through the family and law enforcement.

Kamille 'Cupcake' McKinney's disappearance: Reward for information on missing Alabama girl increases as police search continues - CNN
[...]

"We believe that you know where she is and we believe that someone has her," he said. "Please bring this to a safe end and place her back into the arms of her family."

He urged whoever has the girl to bring her to a police station, fire station or hospital, saying he wanted to give the person "safe passage."

Speaking at an evening press conference, the chief announced that a reward in the case has increased to $20,000. The reward, offered by Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, is for whoever provided information that assisted police in solving the crime. It is separate from a $5,000 reward offered by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, which is contingent on providing information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

[...]

Smith declined to say what prompted police to converge on the apartment complex in southwestern Birmingham on Wednesday morning, but said the search did not reveal any new information.

[...]

In response to a question, he said it is possible that whoever has Kamille could be moving her around to different locations.

[...]

Smith said police so far have not found any connection between the two and Kamille's family.

It is not known if either Brown or Stallworth have attorneys.

Investigators are waiting for DNA evidence to determine whether Kamille was ever in the vehicle, Smith said.
