IHAVENOCLUE- I would imagine they are being tight lipped because they are kinda caught in a hard place. On one hand, he is their colleague who just lost his wife in a horrible manner, yet he also might be her killer. So they really cant say much either way till they know how this plays out. If they fire an innocent man, they look bad. But if they come out proclaiming his innocence and he isn't, they're gonna look bad, so they re just not saying much.

We attend Church of the Highlands now, but I was raised southern Baptist, as well, and I know exactly what you are taking about. I don't drink, but I make a mean rum cake and might see you at the liquor store! Haha

LOL, yesterday I wore faded Levi's with a very dressy white peasant blouse and lots of silver Brighton jewelry. I did trade my flip flops for dressy sandals since it was Sunday!

I have seen pastors my age who are at contemporary churches go all out to look cool in the latest trendy styles, while my pastor wears a traditional suit and tie. To me, there is no right or wrong.

Myself, I tend to go more dressy casual. Its more comfortable than dresses, pantyhose, etc but I still feel dressed nice.

It depends if it is my time for being liturgist or not... Or if it is cold!

I have been known to wear my jeans/cowboy boots/denim shirt when it is cold... And got a thumbs up by my pastor! :D

Hmmmm .... panty hose.... What are those? :D

seems I have forgotten... :)

All very good points ...:thumb:

As long as they talk freely to detectives, that's all that matters. Most church members probably know nothing to even tell unless they socialized with Karen or worked at the church.

I was raised southern baptist but no more. We had to wear proper dresses (with some sort of sleeve), dressy shoes and boys wore dress slacks and dressy shirt. No jeans, tank tops, no hats on men, no denim skirts, etc. No drink, no dance and no stringed instruments in our church.

I'd just like to clarify. I am a southern Baptist. Was raised in a SB church,as was my DH and our kids. We are not fundamentalists that act cultish, or walk around subservient to our husbands. We are normal, everyday people. We wear fashionable clothing and hairstyles, and make-up. I dance if I want. Although in my case, not very well. I might be listening to to gospel music one day and Bon Jovi the next. The last concert I went to was BBKing. (Scratch that off the bucket list). My favorite ratty t-shirt has Tootsies orchid Lounge on it. If I see you in the liquor store, I will speak to you.We are just like everyone else, except we are Believers. Okay, felt good to get that out! :)

You described that very well KR, an accurate picture of my life as well!

Sula, yes, that's the one . Supposed to be a very modern, progressive congregation. I am 50 years old and grew up in church. I was so shocked I was looking for the candid camera ... not exaggerating. That's what I meant by men making their own rules.

I don't think we can really tell from the press releases which kind Karens church is. The congregation in my situation certainly was not the loving place depicted in public...unless you are a man.

MOO

Honestly I think that LE has asked anyone/everyone who has been questioned or who might know something of value to be quiet about it. Do they ever do that?

I can't imagine Karen's co-workers just not saying anything publicly or even privately unless they were asked not to and I know that HL home office asked them not to comment right after it happened but do you think that still stands now 3-4 weeks after the murder??

I, too, can sort of understand the church officials and even members keeping quiet because they just don't know how it's going to turn out but if she had any good friends, one would think they would be stomping and screaming for something to be done. I know, if it were a friend of mine, I would be and I wouldn't hold back if I knew information that might be helpful unless LE was asking me to because it might ruin their chance at a case.

I could see the church being able to ask staff members to stay mum but they wouldn't have any control over anything a member of the congregation might have to say. At this point, it just feels like everyone is complying with some sort of request by LE. I could be wrong.

I agree...

The silence is deafening... and puzzling...

You are so right. I go to FBC of Birmingham...and yes, it is extremely hard on us. Like I said in some of my other posts, Richard baptised my son, so It is very hard when we read some of the things that are posted about Richard....but I also know that the police know what they are doing...I have no doubt that they WILL catch the person that killed Karen. The most important thing to me, is that God knows who did this... Also, I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone on this thread. All of you have been very understanding.

Thank you, kahne for understanding that any discussions that may take place are out of NO disrespect whatsoever.. I know that what WE ALL WANT AND ARE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING is for there to be justice for this beautiful woman's life lost, Karen Shahan.

Hang in there, kahne:hug:

Thank you once again for all of your kind words Smoothoperator....I agree a 150% with you about getting justice for Karen. You described Karen perfectly...she was a wonderful women. There hasn't been 1 post that I have taken personally, You all want justice for Karen.

For those concerned how Karen is referred to as "pastor's wife". In every Baptist (southern or independent) or even non-denominational evangelical church the pastor's wife is considered a calling unto itself. I didn't find it odd at all that she is referred to by that.. I don't see it as diminishing her as a person or her role - but something that is usually looked up to in these circles.

That's Primitive Baptist where I came from. There's a church here in Tuscaloosa that has on it's sign "Traditional Dress Required." But I've seen the people, and they dress like it's 1981. Puffy sleeved dresses that look like wallpaper, big permed hair. So.... what was it about THAT particular year that they think makes God happy? lol I mean, if we went all the way back, why don't they dress in robes and cloaks like Moses?

Anyhoo... I'm getting OT, I know. There's no denominations in Heaven, so we are just gonna have to get along up there! haha

FBC was said by one poster to be prominent. I know that some pastors and prominent members can and do get involved in politics, city council, boards, etc. I wonder if cops are looking into all aspects or possibility that some deranged person was bent on revenge for any reason instead of just suspecting the husband.

BBM According to this article from AL.Com, http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2013/08/the_rev_richard_shahan_jailed.html RS had his own company and had his own business enterprises. I wonder if LE are contacting every place where he worked, and the churches he worked for and any possible private business associates he might have had. There was their bankruptcy filing so it is possible he owed a private individual money also. If he did, that person might be bent on revenge. And what is worse than murdering a person's family member? The saying goes that revenge is a dish best served cold.

Might be LE is checking into all that and that is what is taking so long?
Or, seems to be taking so long. :moo:

Yes, that's all ANY of us want.

ITA.

Some of us may be slightly less diplomatic than others, but we cannot be faulted for caring.

We do care, about each and every victim and their families, and their friends, communities etc.

No one deserves to be murdered and we all come here everyday to attempt to do something for justice...even if it is just to speak for a victim.

No one here even cares if it's man, woman, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, black, white or indigo, male or female or somewhere in between. Everyone deserves justice.

Yes, you're right. I've said that In everyone of my posts. I've known both of them for 4 years, both of them worked with my kids. Karen was a wonderful women. I want justice for Karen more than you can possibly know.

LOL. I was from a very small town and everyone was Baptist. But our Primitive baptist church was much more severe. No musical instrument of any kind, women forbidden to cut their hair, no make up or jewelry etc. Rules made by men.
