Alabama pastor's wife and member of church choir is found brutally murdered on couch in family home. (Daily Mail)

• Karen Louise Shahan, 52, was found dead at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday after she failed to show up to work
• Victim is married to Reverend Richard Shahan of First Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama
• Shahan's husband was away visiting the couple's son when the grandmother was killed
• Police have not divulged how Shahan died but said it was clear she had been murdered
• No suspects identified; unknown whether the slaying was a 'random burglary gone bad' or something more sinister

The story, with pictures, at the link.

Thank you, for all you do, :blowkiss:

I've been following this case on here and praying for Karen's family/friends. You guys have done such a great job on reporting information. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts.

Here's an idea. The murderer, ( a random suspect), needs to do the right thing and take complete responsibility for what he did. No more lies.

Waiting to see if the D.A. can prove it is the wrong thing to do. Lies make it worse. Lawyers don't tell you the right thing to do, they tell you how to avoid having to tell the truth.

Stop making it worse. Do the next right thing. Tell the whole truth .

MOO

Doubly so if that murderer wants inside the pearly gates ;)
Ohhhhhh yes I did ! :) Lots of murderers want to go to heaven. :)

Are any of our locals still around? Or church members/friends of the Shahan family?

Are people even still talking about Karen/this case? Or is it kind of as if it hadn't happened at this point? Is her husband around or staying pretty much on the down low?

Praying that LE figures out what happened to Karen soon.

SURELY there must be an arrest in this case soon....

The "crickets" are sort of telling in and of themselves, don't you think???

From the news article: Sgt. Andrew Didcoct says no one has been ruled out as a suspect. In addition to Rev. Shahan, several other family members have been questioned.

I wonder if LE have questioned people that are not family members. I suppose LE could have questioned a lot of people by now but for whatever reason not talked to the media about it? Crickets indeed!

But Rev Shahan is the only one who spent 2 days ( or was it 3 ?) in detention while being interrogated, right?

Hi all! Just a quick update to say that there's still no local news regarding this case. I did find one article on AL.com this morning from yesterday that was pretty much a repeat of the last news release with the exception of the following quote from the article:

Church officials said Thursday he remains on leave.

Shahan has made no public comment about his wife's slaying. Efforts to reach him for comment Thursday were unsuccessful.

And here's a link if you want to read it:

He was held over for questioning which does not mean he was arrested and put in a jail cell. It is possible he was questioned all night and into the next day. We do not know just that he was not arrested. jmo

Well, they sure didn't put him up in the local Hilton. Semantics. I am not interested in semantics today. Its obvious he is a person of interest, imo.

Just one of a few stories:

"HOMEWOOD - AL -
Rev. Richard Shahan is, once again, being interviewed by Homewood Police, Friday, after spending his second night in the city's jail."

*

"Shahan voluntarily walked into the police station in Homewood, Wednesday, to talk with police about his wife's death. Atkinson says following that interview, police decided to hold him overnight. Details about what is being discussed, specifically, has not been released.

Lt. Atkinson says Friday evening will mark the 48 hour window that police can legally hold a person of interest for "investigative purposes.""

That does not mean he was in a cell. He was not under arrest. Had he been arrested they would have read him his rights and he would not have had to answer any questions. They can however "detain" him for questioning. jmo

I didn't say he was under arrest. Nor did the selections from the article that I posted say he was under arrest. But, I have a very strong feeling that they really are very very interested in him. Of course that's just my opinion.

I totally agree. What I find interesting though is that he did not ask to call an attorney. I doubt he would have been there 3 days if he had one. jmo

IMO.... But if LE wasn't VERY interested in the Pastor...

I imagine he would have been allowed to leave the precinct once the interview went into the night hours... And then asked to return at a future time...like the next day... Etc...

Instead of staying the one or two nights at the police station/jail?

Just some thoughts...

Not trying to be argumentative but it is actually called a warrantless *ARREST* when LE impose the 48-72hour hold on a suspect.. it is a nationwide LE policy that is considered a warrantless arrest allowing a LEA to legally detain the individual up to the maximum time allowed(48-72hrs)..at which time they must go forward in receiving a warrant for the individual's arrest if they intend to detain him/her for any longer than the legally allowable window of time.
