Plead not guilty. $200K bond.
5/24/19 Update: Arraignment scheduled for 7/24.
6/10/19 Update Grand jury indicts. Defense motion for bond reduction saying it is excessive. In a response to the motion, Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney Teresa Heinz said Monday (6/10) the State was against the reduction in bond and added the amount was fair. 6/23/19: Hearing scheduled for 6/27. 6/27/19: Bond was reduced to $200K. Defense attorneys want bond at $50K. Motion to allow Rice to leave Alabama and return to Florida has not yet been decided.
7/14/19 Update: Hearing scheduled for 10/23 at 9am & at 1:30pm. 10/23/19 Update: Next hearing on 11/20.
*Jordan Reign Nicole Rice (27) “mom” arrested (1/21/19) & charged (5/25/18) & arraigned (5/29/19) with capital murder & aggravated child abuse. Plead not guilty. No bond on murder, child abuse bond is $100K bond.
Was previously charged with assault & aggravated child abuse. 2 other children (3 & 6) were taken to child care services.
Was released on 1/19/19 rearrested 1/21/19.

Wow, what a horrifically heartbreaking case it’s so strange looking at the mother’s Facebook and seeing the featured photos. Settings are mostly private, but it looked like the most recent pictures of the two older kids were posted in April 2017, the same month Violet was born. She posted a few selfies/pictures of her and the husband in the following months up until December 2017.

In pictures of her 2 older kids, they look relatively healthy but I did notice one picture of the little boy his head looks flat in the back. This is relatively normal, but at that age (he looks to be a year or older) it’s less common and can sometimes be an indicator for neglect, like being left in a car seat or crib for long periods of time. His looks a bit more severe too. Could this mean the two older kids were neglected in a similar, albeit less extreme way before Violet was born? I wonder if baby Violet was ever properly cared for, or was she neglected from birth? I imagine the officers who responded to this incident must be haunted by it.

I’m wondering how often the husband visited and witnessed the conditions they were suffering in, and why he didn’t do anything. She may have a valid defense if the tumor affected her brain in such a way that she was basically losing her mind, but she herself looked normal and nourished in her mugshot. JMO

It breaks my heart that no family came to check up on these poor children.

ETA~ I guess I would have to hear medical testimony on the tumor and how it impacted Jordan's day to day function. What a horrible way to die, the older kids were in bad shape too, heartbreaking
