California to Compensate Jaycee Dugard With $20 Million

The difference between this case and Jaycee Dugard's case is that offender in Jaycee's case was on parole. There were supposed to monitor him and they didn't do it well. Whereas in this case Castro was not on parole for anything.
None of the other victims (Elizabeth Smart, Shawn Hornbeck, etc) got compensation from police as far as I can tell. You can not usually sue police for not solving your case.

The Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) received a sample of Castro's DNA late yesterday afternoon, and forensic scientists worked throughout the night to confirm that Castro is the father of the six-year-old girl born in captivity to one of the kidnapping victims.

"Castro's DNA profile was also compared to other DNA profiles submitted to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Castro's DNA did not match any other Ohio cases, however national results are pending through the FBI."

Who else was it going to be? The girl was kept captive for 10 years, and he was the only male there per police (since they are saying his brothers were not involved).

I'm just grateful both those men were there to get Amanda and J out of here. Between Amanda and LE, they'll figure out who did what and the reward will be divvied up accordingly. It sounds like both men took part in the rescue. Regardless of their past records, at that time, at that moment, it was put aside for someone else, and they both stepped up and did what needed to be done. And Thank GOD they did. IMO.

Pretty much they are. Generally hospitals can't refuse emergency service to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

Fernando also spoke with the FBI and told them to look into AC in regard to the missing women. They never did. Gabriella and Anthony Castro (son) testified against AC.

True JJenny - but we have all seen cases where the jury gets misled about things and everything goes haywire. The hard science will help prevent that and it will also keep Castro from trying to say the girls are lying.

These poor girls This dude needs to plead guilty and just accept LWOP and be done, in my opinion. But I'm willing to bet he will plead not guilty and force everyone into more years of mental torture while they go through the trial process.

What a dark country we live in. Are we no longer able to see the good in a situation? Are we so calloused that we have to hold everyones' life and every situation under a microscope? Who among us can withstand such scrutiny?

We live in a country in which everyone has the oppurtunity to redeem themselves. Everyone makes mistakes. However , mistakes are oppurtuities to learn and grow. I totally hear what Charles Ramsey states that those mistakes from his past made him a better person. Isn't that we ask peopleto do,learn from their mistakes. I refuse to judge a person on their past mistakes but choose to look at their present.

I didn't read the original, and just read snippets of the quote that Charles said something to the effect of "I don't need the money , I have a paycheck" In the very beginning I heard he said: "give it to the girls I don't need it" ... so my guess would be it is both .

I think it does matter. IF it was Angel rather than Charles who rescued the women, he deserves the recognition. IF Charles is taking credit, being lauded as a hero, and receiving gifts, fame, and money for something he didn't do, he needs to be exposed as a fraud.

EDIT TO ADD: If this case does come to trial someone will have to testify about how the girls were rescued. If Charles testifies and the defense proves him a liar, it won't look good for the prosecution, so it definitely matters.

I agree the test had to be done for the court. But it was rather obvious who the father was once brothers were declared not to be involved.

With all due respect Elley Mae, I really do not think that was what the original poster was trying to say. Some people are just evil and are worthless to society, Castro is a great example of this kind of scum.

On the other hand, some people do bad things and they are able to learn from their mistakes and go on to be an asset to society. Charles is a great example and admits he was responsible for his past transgressions.

Obviously everyone has their own opinion about redemption and this is just me sharing mine. :moo:

I've from the beginning thought that he was a customer at Burger King and that Amanda knew him. When I heard that he was at McDonalds when arrested something told me that his "love" of fast food , that yes, he knew Amanda from Burger King. Again, this is just my opinion

I don't understand why police or FBI has not looked into Castro, even if Fernando did not tell them. Castro's daughter Arlene was the one with Gina walking home before Gina went missing. Apparently Gina now says that before Arlene and Gina separated, they talked to Castro. Castro left then came back after the two girls separated and offered Gina a ride.
As I understand it, Arlene didn't mention that (at least she didn't in AMW interview) but still why didn't they look at Castro? They looked into step-father (Fernando) but not into father (Castro)? Makes no sense to me.

there is DESOXYN (methamphetamine hydrochloride) but ive never heard of it actually being used, ive just heard of it before from researching medical grade "street" drugs. im not even sure if you can get it prescribed anymore.. but it does exist according to the internet.

I do think we should avoid talking about her mental health as its a private matter. If she wants to one day go public and talk about her battles thats one thing, but until then we should be respectful of her privacy. The stigma of mental health has come a long way in 12 years, she may have lots of fears about the media and public scrutinizing every aspect of her life. I know I wouldnt want that. Think if she were to one day come across this and read it. who wants total strangers talking about their personal matters

In a CNN video with Anderson Cooper, Martin Savich (sp) pointed out that AC always entered the house from the back and had blocked off the backyard to prevent seeing into it. Although many of the windows of the house were boarded up, so were the windows of adjacent abandoned houses. There's no punishment legally available for what this demon did. The prosecutor says he'll use AC's diary along with the girls' statement and charge him separately for every day they were there and for every offence.

That is going to be one massive complaint.

In what ways have you seen Angel's story change? I don't know who to believe but it's obvious that one of them is lying. I don't know what Amanda has told LE about the rescue and who was involved. Obviously she didn't know either man by name, she can only tell them that a man kicked in the door and led her across the street to safety - Charles says he's that man, Angel says he is. Who knows? I hope it's not the case, but I'm afraid that Charles is duping the media and the public.

You know what? Two men, regardless of their backgrounds, decided to get involved. I don't care how - they both did. Why aren't we celebrating that? Why turn something wonderful into something ugly? Isn't there enough of that? Charles has already said he wants any reward to go to the girls. Can we stop it? Or at least leave the ugly mutterings about people who had the courage and grace to get involved, to the appropriate thread?

I am quite ticked off that the results of the DNA paternity test for Amanda's daughter has been released to the public. I would think this would be classfied as medical information and HIPAA has been violated. I am incensed that this information would be released!
