Apparantly the Durham County District Attorney at the time of the Peterson East case was a Jim Hardin Jr who is now a superior court judge in the district. Seems like Mr. Hardin was at least about justice for the people of Durham County and Nifong is just all about Nifong. What a total total disgrace. If Janet's murder had occured when Hardin was still the DA maybe things would be different. Hey, maybe we could write to Hardin. He most certainly is still commited to justice for the people, maybe he could use his weight as a Superior Court Judge or have some else use their weight to bring more attention to this case. Just a thought, please don't yell at me for not knowing how things work and that Hardin would have no influence, etc....It is just a thought.

This is where my thoughts are now. Hardin did an extraordinary job and hopefully it will continue. He is harnessed by being a judge to a degree but he has influence as far as seeing that justice is served when brought before him.

Pray for his wisdom and pray that investigators get enough so a DA can bring charges.

According to court papers filed Friday by District Attorney Mike Nifong, the accuser told a prosecution investigator on Thursday that she now does not know if she was penetrated during the alleged attack.

Lacking any "scientific or other evidence independent of the victim's testimony" to corroborate that aspect of the case, Nifong wrote, "the State is unable to meet its burden of proof with respect to this offense."

Nifong did not immediately return calls seeking comment, and a sign posted on his office door read, "No media, please!"

Lots of time and attention spent on this case "No media, Please!"

Maybe he can get his credibility up on spending his time on Janet's case now!

Just going to vent for a second.

This is the front cover of the latest People magazine. Jennifer Wilbanks did such a disservice for Janet and her case. This should be Janet on the cover--or Janet should have been able to have had her day in the public spotllight with people crying out for attention and information on her murder.

I'm sickened with People and hope that you all will join me in emailing them to let them know that North Carolina is infamous for this kind of behavior--wife killing!

Sometimes it seems the media reports on anything BUT Janet's murder. It seems very much like Durham has forgotten about her and her baby. It's very sad. I'm praying for the LE officers who are assigned this case that they never lose faith, that they never give up. I have faith in them..... not so much the DA anymore...... I pray even harder that the next person in that chair will be someone who really cares about the people of Durham.

How can we assume that the investigators on this case are any better than the DA? None of us really knows for sure who's dropped the ball, only that it most certainly seems to have been dropped. I've lost faith in the whole lot of them.

God bless you all, Janet's loved ones. This is atrocious.

I guess all I can do is pray that the investigators are working hard on this case. I can see how everyone would lose faith, but I'm going to try to keep the positive thougths going and try to keep faith that there will be Justice for Janet and her unborn child.

Blind faith, naive? I could very well be, but it keeps me coming back here and is not stopping me from praying and believing that this case will be solved and the murderer will be behind bars in the future.

I'm not saying that we can't hope for eventual justice. All I'm saying is that it seems odd for any of us to say that we continue to trust in LE if we don't know what they are or aren't doing. Sure, Nifong seems to have his problems, (understatement), but how do any of us know that he's the only problem with this case? LE hasn't said anything to the media in ages - does that mean that they aren't working on it? No. But we cannot assume that Nifong is the only problem that this case has when LE isn't showing us anything either. Obviously, if there were enough evidence as of this point, this case would have had an arrest by now.

I'll keep hoping and I'll keep coming back - I've proven that much. But my hopes are no longer high.

To Janet's killer - You might have done it, buddy - you might have committed "the perfect murder". If not here, I hope that there's at least justice for you somewhere. I hope that someday you get what you deserve.

I just realized the difference in this case & why it's getting more attention than Janet's.

That poor baby girl was walking around with blood on her feet, trying to wake up mommy and she couldn't.
Kaiden was in his crib, sleeping, wondering what that sound was, and wondering when his mommy was going to hold him and comfort him. He didn't know that someone was taking that nurturing comfort away from him.

Neither case is worse than the other, please don't misunderstand me...however, the thought of a toddler walking around in the blood, trying to wake mommy is "more of a story", I think, to the media. ("if it bleeds, it leads!").
I think that if baby Kaiden could've spoken then, he would've said, "make it stop! Make him not kill my mommy!" But of course, Kaiden was just an infant, and Janet was pregnant with his sibling. If only People Magazine could speak for Kaiden, too. :(

I saw that article also and I don't think we can blame People Magazine. If you read the article, they have pictures provided by family; quotes provided by family, friends and neighbors; the 911 call released, quotes by the investigators...all of that made the article.

If Janet's case had all of this information released and family and close friends and investigators were talking, I believe there would have been more coverage on Janet. I know hindsight is 20/20 but there still could be an opportunity for this case to be brought out to the public. If the family and close friends were to contact People with the similarities of these cases and the fact that Janet's case is still unsolved, and the fact of the DA being Nifong, and would be willing to talk with the media, etc., I think People would pick up Janet's story.....and if the media is pressuring the investigators/DA for info. on this case, they'll be forced to bring Janet's case to the forefront.

Short of that, I can't see much else happening on this case...unfortunately.

The reason I still have faith in LE in Durham is because of the Peterson East case. They handled that well and gave the DA (not Nifong at the time) more than enough to get a conviction. I have no faith in the DA now however, my thought has been that even if LE handed the DA enough to get a conviction in Janet's or other cases would he go for it since they were not has high profile as the Duke case and would not bring him as much glory. Now that Nifong has taken himself of the Duke case there is so hope for that case to be carried out correctly. And if Nifong is disbarred and someone else with good character takes the job as DA then that will help not only the Duke case, but Janet's and others.

I decided to take a look at the Durham County Court listings again and thought I would share with you all for informational purposes:

http://www.nccourts.org/County/Durham/Default.asp

I wanted to see for myself what was going on in Durham, while the Duke case is up front and center.

To look at Criminal Court Calendar you can check here:

http://www1.aoc.state.nc.us/www/calendars/Criminal.jsp?county=DURHAM

Click the Superior Court Calendar - Week of January 15, 2007....

You will notice if you decided to look at tomorrow's calendar, for example, that the Prosecutor is Nifong.

Prosecutor is Nifong, but if you research each case further, he is not the one handling the cases, though he is the Prosector. Most of the Criminal Cases are handled by ADA's - Assistant District Attorneys

If you check out again:

http://www.nccourts.org/County/Durham/Calendars.asp

You will notice that they are not listing 2007 Trial Date sets, they are listing 2006.

Where are the 2007's?

They have listed January 2006 and October 2006. These are word files. I downloaded to my computer.

THE CRS means it's a criminal case - the number before is the year the case was filed the xxxxxxx's is the case number itself.

01 CRS xxxxxxxx - means the case was filed in 2001. - In October 2006 they were just setting criminal trial dates that were filed back in 2001 and the latest trial setting was a few cases filed in 2005 - (05 CRS xxxxxxx)

Let's say for instance that DA Nifong get's a slap on the wrist and continues on as District Attorney for his full four-year term. It seems that cases in Durham run v.e.r.y.......s.l.o.w. It seems to take forever to get a trial date set on criminal cases.

The Third row spells out the case:

Charges
The Defense Attorney
The Assistant District Attorney Handling the Case

The Fourth Row is the Defendant.

Something interesting to note - if you check out January 2006 Trial Set Dates, you will notice that Raven's Embezzlement Attorney, Julian Mack handled many of the criminal cases that were brought to trial in January 2006. You will also notice the name of the ADA's. There seems to be about 10 different ADA's, some handling multiple cases.

That's alot of info....thank's for digging that up. I will sift through some of it.
