Neighbors last saw Bingham leaving his Fort Smith home in a maroon 1998 Buick Regal about 2 a.m. June 8, 2000. Bingham had told his neighbors that he was going to go to Talihina. On June 17, 2000, his nephew reported Bingham missing.

Bingham’s car later was found at Cavanal Mountain near Poteau. A witness told investigators that he had given Bingham a ride to a nearby community, but took him back to Cavanal Mountain and dropped him off.

Authorities embarked on a search for Bingham. His vehicle, with his diabetic supplies, was at the mountain, and his dog was found near the area — but Bingham was nowhere in sight...

LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale, who worked with Poteau police at the time, said multiple agencies spent days searching the expansive, often dangerous land on and near the mountain. “There’s some pretty rough, rugged areas up there on that mountain. There’s old caves and some old mineshafts,” Seale said. “There’re plenty of places for someone to go missing and never be found up there.”

**BUMPING** in August 2024 for Gerald. Could've been foul play or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A lot of people end up in Oklahoma.

<<He said he would return at 5:30 a.m., but he never did. At the time of his disappearance, he was carrying a .22 caliber handgun with the serial number AT039253.>>

<<Additional Personal Items: Missing person is in possession of a .22 caliber handgun with the serial number: AT039253; Mr. Bingham is a diabetic>>
<<His car with his diabetic supplies was at the mountain as well as his dog. Cavanal Mountain is a rough, rugged area with caves and mine shafts, so it would be easy for someone to go missing. Authorities searched the area, but did not find the missing man.>>

<<Contact with Bingham’s family has been spotty at best. Williams said Fort Smith police were aware of a relative Bingham had from Alaska, and last spoke to the nephew who reported him missing around 2011. Since Williams took on the case last year, he hasn’t had a chance to speak with Bingham’s nephew.

“Reading over all these reports, I know he had some children and at some point in time they were all tracked down and spoken to,” Williams said.

Nothing in the years following Bingham’s disappearance has helped to clear up some of the murky details of his whereabouts, Williams said.>>
