Argentina - Loan Peña, 5, went orange pick w/fam, shoe found, local police chief arrested, as well as others, Nueve de Julio, 13 Jun 2024

From the Clarin daily updates today:

According to the official, "it is likely that Loan was taken by someone he knew, since everyone present was there and the only ones who left did so just as Loan was heading towards the orange grove. The prosecutors' statements about that Loan never reached the orange grove are incorrect; there is a photograph that shows a large group of people heading towards that area."
In addition, the minister stressed the importance of reconstructing the events and examining in detail the region, which is home to dangerous fauna such as jaguars, alligators and snakes, as well as dangerous wells. "A gendarme mentioned to me that this is an area where special clay for bricks is extracted, leaving open pits full of mud. Therefore, either Loan is in that area, or an adult has taken him, possibly for revenge or economic reasons "Bullrich concluded.

So it seems to me that the pot has just been stirred up again and any and all possibilities are on the table. We have trafficking, accidental death (run over), lost in the orange grove, hurt by wildlife, fell in a well, etc., etc.
There are so many conflicting stories out there. Let's see if the federal investigators can narrow this down.

As well, Loan's family members were called today to Goya (the city where the federal investigators are now running the investigation) to be interviewed.

Desaparición de Loan Danilo Peña en Corrientes, EN VIVO: la búsqueda del nene de 5 años y las últimas noticias del caso este 27 de junio

Jose (the dad) and Loan went to the grandmother's on Thursday for St. Anthony's Day, a holiday in which all the stores are closed there. The mother was not feeling well so she stayed home. Loan has EIGHT siblings.

"Grandma Catalina had to kill two more chickens when she saw the number of guests." Uncle Antonio and his wife Laudelina Pena showed up with two guests - Daniel Ramírez and his wife, Mónica Millapi. Daniel has a criminal record for drugs, theft of cattle, and has large debts. But they were not the only unannounced guests. Carlos Perez (former Navy Captain) and María Victoria Caillava, his wife, showed up. They have several properties and vehicles that do not match Caillava's salary as a city employee and Pérez's retirement as an ex-military man (Navy captain).

All six detainees are refusing to testify. (Yeah, if no one is talking then they are all likely guilty. IMO)

If this is trafficking, then Daniel (and maybe Uncle Antonio) are the Sellers and Carlos/Maria are buyers (who would then sell Loan to someone else). Lots of pictures of Loan were taken (pics to show the merchandise?).

Laudelina Peña (Loan's aunt) testifies that Carlos Pérez and María Victoria Caillava had accidentally killed the child in a tragic accident that was later covered-up.

Around 2.20pm on June 13, a van belonging to Pérez and Caillava unintentionally ran over Loan Danila Peña, who was returning to the family home from the orange grove. The couple "were very nervous" in the aftermath and said they were going to take the child to the hospital. The aunt said she did not know what had happened to the body but that she was asked “not to say anything.”

If this is indeed what happened, then why would they not tell the father? Drunk driving maybe. I would want to see a body before I believe this story. And forensics on the van. Looks like they are searching and raking the local dump now.

In this earlier interview Laudelina said Perez and Caillava left the house around 3 pm. to attend the Rivers game knowing the boy was missing. Victoria Caillava rang Laudelina to ask if he had been found, which she replied "no". Victoria told her she'd already rung the police. They returned to the house about an hour and a half after they'd initially left.

Interestingly, Laudelina, along with her daughter and a couple of others saw little footprints and was the one who found Loan's shoe.

The above is just a short snippet using youtube's auto-translate, the interview was around 25 mins. long.

So, according to the complaint by Laudelina, she saw them run Loan over as they were driving away, she was about 200km away. She said they picked up his unconscious body, placed it in the truck and sped off. The phone call she received from them was to threaten that if she told anyone, they would harm her and her family members. They apparently told her they had taken him to hospital (which doesn't make sense, why would they need to threaten her?).

Re the shoe... according to the complaint she was ordered to plant it there! She also made an earlier complaint in which she accused the Commissioner of planting them. Also, earlier on in the search she pointed the finger of suspicion at Loan's mum saying she wasn't searching for him.

In another video that was live a couple of hours ago, the police with the aid of dogs and a drone were searching what they call a "garbage dump" situated between the home of Gma and Laudelina's house. Perez and Caillava also live very close to Laudelina and her husband.

Laudelina Peña, aunt of the wanted minor, testified for six hours before the Corrientes prosecutor, Gustavo Robineau, and said that "the Caillava-Pérez couple ran over the baby and loaded him unconscious into the truck." The lawyer for the boy's mother said it was a "strange, incredible and seems armed" statement.

Laudelina told prosecutors that she had not said anything in her previous statements because the marriage of former official María Victoria Caillava and her husband, former military officer Carlos Guido Pérez, "had threatened her."

Loan's brother says the family are not having a bar of what Laudelina is saying. Too many statements that just aren't adding up.

Thing is, this isn't the first time a family has gone into denial becuase if it is true all their hope will be lost.

From the article:

El abogado de la mamá del nene dijo que fue una declaración "extraña, increíble y parece armada".

I would translate this as:

The lawyer for the boy's mother said that "it was a strange, incredible statement and appears made up"
