He says - and this may be provable - that a Holland Tourist Brochure AND his attorney from Aruba told him to immediately contact his insurance because he may be liable for the search effort.

So yes. He did contact them. On the advice of the Aruban tourist brochure and his lawyer.

What had at first seemed sinister, now seems like typical procedure.

I don't think that is true. And why would his attorney be thinking this could end up being a criminal case because had she really did just drowned he is not responsible for her actions.... RG is. They could not hold him responsible for that and I doubt a lawyer told him that. Since when would he be reading a Holland Tourist Brochure when his traveling partner is missing. "Let me see, grab that old tourist brochure so I can see what I should do next." I would think asking LE would be what he should have been doing. He was claiming she was dead to the insurance agent without any proof she was, in fact, dead. He was not letting them know she was missing, the agent said he was trying to collect on the policy. Big difference. jmo

But WHY is he the beneficiary. I thought he said the only reason he took out the policy was for his son's security/

According to him, and this is either true or not true, he was forced to add her when he took out insurance on himself for his boys.

In that situation, why not add himself as the beneficiary in her insurance? He's paying for the insurance for the trip, sitting at his computer, he's just trying to get through the process of insuring himself - why not put himself as the beneficiary? In that situation, if he's telling the truth, why go through the exercise of calling her and getting details of her next of kin? He's just trying to prep for a trip, and make sure he has insurance on himself for his minor children and trip insurance in case she bails at the last minute.

He wasn't. That was apparently noted much later, while he cooled his heels in jail for 4 months. He just noted it, to defend himself that this is TYPICAL policy for tourists, and encouraged by the government, and his lawyer would certainly know that.

All he knew was that his lawyer told him to call the insurance. Presumedly so the lawyer from Aruba (not his current lawyer) could collect 1/3 of the amount.

Why not put himself as the beneficiary? Well, if he is just an acquaintance, and is not close to her, and she happens to go missing under suspicious circs, then one finds themselves in the situation he is in. That is one reason why not. If one takes out a million dollar life ins policy on an acquiantance, then they go missing, people are going to be suspicious. And rightfully so. Why the heck should he get a million bucks because someone he met online but barely knew just happened to disappear while snorkeling with him, in calm seas?

IIRC, it has been stated that Giordano was having some financial difficulties. How was he to pay this Aruban attorney? Did this attorney work on a contingent fee basis? Perhaps the 1/3 of the amount of the insurance policy would be a guarantee of payment for services. In the US, many lawyers take up to 1/3 upon judgment. Just a thought.

Um hm. It's a really good thought, and I think it was implied by GG at the interview this morning. The Aruban lawyer was hoping to collect 1/3 of 1.5 million. That guy is no longer in the picture, at all.

Well, why, if he's just paying her whole fare for this vacation and he realizes he has to pay for her life insurance as well as his, would he not name himself as beneficiary? I would. He's carrying her completely, may as well benefit since he's paying her way.

But he CALLED HER and literally begged her to accompany him on the trip. She said no initially, and he asked others to go and finally when it was getting really close he called her again. It is not like she asked to go on the trip and asked for him to pay. He bought the tickets and THEN asked her to please go with him. Pretty nifty that it has worked out to make him a millionaire now. What a coinky-dink.

Who do you recall was the beneficiary? I don't remember hearing anything about his insurance.

I think it was his mother??
Its been so long.....
Correct me if I am wrong

Also, now that it has been shown that she DID have 1000 bucks worth of new hair extensions, which were not supposed to be in salt water, does that change your thinking any?

I didn't find him hostile or evasive at all - just forceful. I know a LOT of businessmen like that.

Ok, I respect your opinion. I just don't agree. IMO, I can't see how this can be viewed as just an everyday normal business transaction; so it doesn't make sense for GG to attempt to portray or try to come across as some kind of "forceful businessman", as though it were just any other day? Unless, of course his "business" is getting rid of or selling women. That approach doesn't make sense to me, again, JMO.

Also, I detect a lot of hostility, anger and resentment in his eyes, his voice and his body language. Plus, he's evasive because he refuses to answer her direct question about what happened to Robyn. Not only that, at the end, he brings up the subject of sex trafficking. Now where did that come from? That was never in his original story, the one his attorney's claimed that he "stuck with" the entire time. He claimed she drowned while snorkeling. Over, and over, and over again. So, again, what is this sex trafficking thing all about?

IMO, this man is nothing but a liar, and he has absolutely no regrets or remorse, other, than of course, for himself because he was so terribly mistreated and inconvenienced by being held in Aruban prison for four months. Poor, poor, Gary, Boo Hoo, Hoo...
Again, it's all JMO.

How did we learn they were not supposed to be in salt water?

And how did we learn that she paid 1000+ bucks for those hair extensions? I know that others have said their daughters who are actresses needed expensive extensions, this woman was basically unemployed. Why did she need these 12 hundred dollar extensions?

If she did, honestly, she is very odd.

It's sort of the KC case in reverse. First there was a drowning....now she was kidnapped. lol Easy to see JB's involved. jmo

She was recently unemployed and her roommate did the extensions as she is a hair dresser. I believe it is stated in one of the posts further back in this thread. It has been said by her roommate RG would not go into the water above her waist because of those expensive hair extensions. But, of course, GG would not know that. So her going into the water to snorkel is pretty much out of the question. Lies tend to catch up to people who tell them. Foiled by the facts. jmo

It is an accidental death or disability benefit. People usually take them out not because they are concerned about death but because they are concerned about a crippling injury.

If you get severely injured and become partially disabled on vacation overseas, don't count on being able to sue someone for damages to cover the costs resulting in your inability to work. Anyone who goes overseas without sufficient disability insurance is a fool.

I don't know what's so odd - she could have had them done before she lost her job and then maintained them. She could have had savings - she could have gotten the money from GG. NO ONE who spends that kind of money on extensions would go snorkling, no way in hell.

What's odd for one woman may be perfectly routine for another.

There were many accounts you’d been drinking heavily.” Roberts said.

“I’ve never heard that,” an apparently surprised Giordano replied.

Baez then jumped in and explained that Giordano had been in jail and wasn’t exposed to the “media onslaught” of the past few months, while pointing out that, in light of the stories, “judges are not in the business of releasing people, especially with mountains of circumstantial evidence against them.”

Roberts, undeterred, asked what the condition of the sea that day was, as Gardner had been last seen snorkeling. Giordano then took that opportunity to respond to the drinking accusations, saying there were videos of the two of them at a bar, but they didn’t order drinks.

“I’ll just interview myself if you don’t mind,” he told Roberts, mid-way through his answer.

Amazing arrogance!!!! JMO

BBM
:waitasec: As though GG hadn't been repeatedly questioned by LE: questioned again and again, day after day, over and over again about this very thing. Their alcohol consumption, him going to the car to refill his/their glass with vodka according to witnesses, and, the server's statement that GG made a point to excuse Robyn's drugged state by claiming she had "taken a sleeping pill".

Really? So, let's take sleeping pills and drink a bunch of vodka so we can go snorkeling. Really??! :waitasec:

And he's "never heard" the accounts they had been drinking heavily? Ha!

And they were just "two sober adults"?!

I'm not sure if I should :banghead: or .

IIRC it was the boyfiend who said she wouldn't go in the water. He was the guy who knew her so well that he didn't even know she was there.

In any case, neither the BF or the roommate (where she spent little time, according to the BF) were not there so they could not know what she would or wouldn't do.

Her best friend and part time roommate did her hair extensions. I'm sure she didn't charge her near the full price. So, given that fact, she probably was even more protective of them, JMO.

I asked my hairdresser the other day about going in salt water with hair extensions, as she not only does them, but has them herself, and she said it's definitely not a good idea.
