Not sure whether this has been posted here yet but it might narrow it down a bit as to who they're looking at. "THE man is serving a four-and-a-half year sentence in Cessnock Prison, and has previously spent time in jail on child sex offences, Nine Network has reported." http://www.news.com.au/national/bre...in-double-murder/story-e6frfku9-1227580889866

So he has been sentenced?!

If he was jailed in 2013, it could be worth looking through the Cessnock newspaper archives.

Anyone keen ... ?

I'm about 4 pages behind but I just read the Austalian article. It's really bugging me some of the information contained within it.

We're the photos of the girls taken in Adelaide to show they were found? Were they running from someone else other than family and these photos taken to show they were in Adelaide!? I'm not sure but they don't really look like happy snaps.

I guess that doesn't make too much sense as it's unlikely the person who took them would have contacted police last week to share the photos if they were the purpose.

I feel so sad that drugs may have played a huge part in this. It's a story becoming more and more common and it's so so sad.

Just because he's in prison in Cessnock doesn't have to mean he committed his crimes in the Cessnock area... Cessnock has a specialist sex offenders unit, he could have been transferred to do a year long stint there and then had no particular reason to push to be transferred back.

This is going to be tough, but I found this:

THE state's rapists and paedophiles will have to complete an "in-your-face" course for up to a year at the start of their jail terms at a purpose-built facility at Cessnock jail or remain in maximum security for the duration of their sentences.

All sex offenders will be given the option of spending eight hours a day at counselling and group therapy sessions to confront their crimes in a plan to reduce reoffending.

The secure wing inside the new, $97 million, 250-bed addition to Cessnock jail is due to take its first inmates in July.
......

If inmates refuse to take part in the program they face spending their entire sentence under maximum security conditions as well as unfavourable recommendations at parole hearings.

He was likely taking part in this program before being questioned by police and shipped off to maximum security.

excuse me in advance if someone already brought this up....

For quite a long time images of that quilt were all over social media and tv it was a key point to this case and that quilt was pretty distinct as was the recent image brought forward last week.. the person that provided the image of little Angel only came forward with it last week including the pink dress... im finding it hard to believe that allllllll that time it was all over the news and internet they missed it and only just came forward now. Not only that but didnt they also come forward and say something like "oh hey actually there has been a mother and daughter noone has seen for years maybe check to see its not them"... with it all over the news you would think that it would have triggered it off in that persons mind straight away.... UNLESS that person who has no provided photos could not do a thing until someone who they may have been afraid of was put away in jail.????? thoughts

I think a factor here is that the person who actually made the quilt is deceased, and other relatives might not have had a specific memory of the quilt, and just knew that grandma liked to make quilts. It's quite hard to recall the different clothes and belongings of a child you didn't look after. Maybe family members don't watch the news often, or maybe they were reluctant to contact police at first because they really believed that Karlie had disengaged from the family by choice and had to be alive somewhere. Maybe the relative who made the call vacillated about it for a long time. It can be hard to put your worst fears into words. After all, if you don't make the call, you can allow yourself to believe that your missing loved ones are alive.

About the supermarket photos, well, I guess the pink dress isn't specifically distinctive so maybe didn't stand out in someone's memory. The photos may have been obtained because the family recalled that Karlie (who was still having sporadic contact with them in 2008) mentioned meeting a friend. The police contacted that friend, and from that conversation asked if he/she had photographs. Or maybe that friend didn't like or didn't want to approach police for some reason, as you say. It's surprising how many people dislike and distrust police, and see them as the enemy. It's also surprising how many people don't want to "get involved". Countless witnesses have said this before, when asked why they didn't volunteer knowledge of a crime until the police came knocking. It's sad, but it happens. People also believe that someone else will call, as in the bystander effect. A friend who has lost contact with Karlie might think to themselves, "well, the family would know if Karlie and Khandalyce are missing", and a family member might say,"well, it's that other family member's responsibility", or "last time the cousin was the one searching for Karlie, she'll take care of it". And so on.

Yeah I did wonder if the newspaper would cover transfers. There's also a thing on youtube about it.

Thanks Fruity, that was interesting! Found one for Goulburn too:

at 2:40 you see what Milat's cell looks like (after he tried to cut off his finger).

Maybe it's just us but I really do find it fascinating!

I remember when I was a kid my brother and sister would be groaning while mum and dad dragged us around old Dubbo jail and the one at South West Rocks - I'd be racing all over the place posing for photos and reading all the information pamphlets, bugging the people there for stories and asking tonnes of questions.

I haven't been to Melbourne but I'd love to. Maitland creeps me out even driving past.

Last time I was in Goulburn (same trip I posted about earlier, coming from Canberra to Sydney from Thredbo, where we saw the giant emu, which is also the last time I drove past Belanglo and thought of Angel the whole time) I bugged my DH to take a detour past the prison but he wouldn't. I'd made him stop for hours at the Bredbo Christmas Barn so he'd just about had enough of my whims and fancies.

I watch him tear around a rugby field dislocating his knees, fingers and shoulders every weekend - he can put up with my pestering for a while too! ;)

Don't get me started on haunted houses, that will really derail the thread :D

One of the many things baffling me is the withdrawal of the missing person enquiry following the supposed contact from 'Karlie'.

Was the information that she had been reported missing made public? Was it posted on the Facebook page (I can't find a definite date as to when the page was set up) , but even if it wasn't on the Find Karlie page, could it have been broadcast via social media and the killer have got wind of it? In their eyes, the longer that she is thought to be alive, the less chance they have of being caught.

In 2011, Karlie’s family and friends had set up a Facebook page trying to find the young mum, noting the last known contact with her was in Canberra “more than a year ago”.

Ms Povey died aged 44 in February 2012, still believing her daughter and granddaughter were safe and well interstate.

Clothing and a suitcase – a new version of which was also displayed by police today - were found along with the remains.

While the suitcase now appears a grey colour, it was originally black and has faded.

Police are also still seeking to identify a man seen in the area with a dark suitcase on both 13 April and 26 May.

https://www.police.sa.gov.au/sa-pol...l-service-area/task-force-mallee#.VisIg25LOY4

Thanks for that clarification Amee. That is a great link. I hadn't read that it had been determined the suitcase was originally black and had faded. I still don't think it would have uniformly faded from black to grey in 3 months though.

I know this could be a bit far out there, but what if there is some relationship between the William Tyrell case and this one? Could the POI in this case be connected to the Pedo Ring, I wonder. It does seem that somebody wanted to get rid of that suitcase in a hurry, after hanging onto it all these years. Maybe they were worried they were going to be questioned in relation to William Tyrell?
