1999: In "the case of the casked cadavers in the crypt," six bodies are found in casks filled with acid in a bank vault in rural Snowtown, which leads police to the discovery of another five bodies buried in and around Adelaide. Four men are charged with murder.

Sounds like "The barrel girls" on "DEXTER" dang

Can you compare Adelaide to a city in the US as far as size wise and or popularity wise?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelaide

Um......that would be tricky. Its a medium sized city, probably on the small side for the US. Quite conservative. University town. Wine region and wine tourism would probably be a main industry, some manufacture as well.

ETA: wanted to ad, good medical research and science goes on in Adelaide, so there are a lot of intellectuals too. Strong on Arts also.

I hope one day I can visit OZ! Wish you all were located where Canada is. OT I KNOW..sorry mod.

Adelaide is kind of well known in Australia for having bizarre murder cases shall we say....it's an ad that went out around this time last year from memory. Perhaps after the Snowtown bodies in the barrels case was concluded? Adelaide, City of Churches.

Well as a fellow Adelaidian, I can't say I have ever seen Adelaide in that way, in fact I feel safer here then in Melbourne or Sydney.

^ Adelaide is definitely safer than Sydney or Melbourne I agree!

I thought that convo was about a video game because they had been talking about a vidoe game before and after that post

Do you mean in status updates before and after the one that led to that altercation?

Some say that the police couldn't possibly get it wrong, because they would not have arrested him unless they had conclusive proof based on DNA evidence, and therefore the accused must be the killer.

Others say that they think there is room for doubt, but that is really only based on lack of information from the police, and a perception that this guy seems such an unlikely perp for a crime so horrendous and gruesome.

Our official sister city in USA is Austin, Texas.

I haven't been there, but friends have and they think it is very similar.

I've been to Austin (VERY cool town) but never to Adelaide.

I happen to believe the cops have the right person in custody! When a killing happens in the manner that it did there will be a heck of a lot of evidence. The perp clearly to me didn't show any sign of trying to cover everything up. He might have staged some things inside but to me, there was so much he had to do to the scene and there is no way he could think logically at the time. Hence the blood trail, I'm sure he cleaned himself up inside too, therefore more evidence left behind.

The DNA I'm sure was found inside the house ons something, sink, kitchen counter, closet door to get clothes or towel out.

I also am sure they only had a presumptive test on that DNA that would only give them about a 60 percent chance of matching the known. It took a few days to get the full DNA analysis back, once that came in and it was a full DNA work up done, they arrested him.

I think they are not searching for a knife but rather looking into his alibi, and debunking it all.

Of course this is only my OPINION... SPECULATION

reading back through the posts i noticed that it was mentioned about him working in kapunda - this is not the case - try nuri with a japanese name

THIS IS JUST A SCENARIO. PLEASE DO NOT REPEAT ANY OF IT AS FACT

The police most likely have their suspect, but for the sake of conversation, let's assume that they only have semen as a match for the DNA; and a witness seeing him at the crime scene (being dropped off in the white ute).

What if the accused initially put suspicion on himself by denying he had been there that night...let's just say because he wanted to protect the daughters reputation, and also his friendship with the best friend. Maybe he did not provide his alibi and admit to being there until they had his DNA match. The police could still hold him for the other charge no matter what...and of all defences to put forth at the hearing, why choose an alibi? It can be dis-proven if you weren't 'there'...why not insanity or self-defence...he still feels he is in a position to deny he did it.

It has been said here the police would make sure they had the right person...and you would hope so (but let's not forget, there was an attempt at protecting his identity due to the doubt an alibi may create). But if he had initially denied being there it wouldn't look good (as his mother said), and once he had been in for questioning again, I would think he would be in danger if released before the arrest of another suspect. Maybe grief and fear kept him quiet initially during questioning.

A couple of things have never sat right with me...firstly, the neighbour who didn't report the screams. Three people were being stabbed to death and fighting for their lives, surely this would sound a tad worse than just a domestic. The houses are so close together it fascinates me how all of this was done so quietly. I would think there should have been a hell of a lot of noise going on, especially if the suspect acted alone.

We know they all fought, and they were all found in different areas of the house. But how could he fight each one off, stab them, and keep them quiet all at the same time? So many things could have gone wrong, and if he did plan this, he certainly seemed prepared to take a lot of risks.

This same name neighbour then puts a rather strange post on his FB expressing regret and saying he wishes he could take back every last bit, and that he never meant to do it. Where as you would think he would be expressing regret for the things he didn't do. (please note we don't have real confirmation on this post as it has since been removed).

(respectfully snipped)

These are just some of the things that bug me about the case. THEY ARE MY THOUGHTS ONLY AND ARE NOT TO BE TREATED IN ANY WAY AS FACTUAL. They are merely food for thought to put it out there that this case is in no way decided based on the information provided to the public (the police may very well see it differently); and it cannot be resolved here without more answers. Hopefully tomorrow will bring more answers, because until we have them, I cannot see how our sleuthing can move forward without becoming pure speculation...

i don't feel it's cliquey at all. like you said 2 camps, but i see no collusion within these camps. we are all individuals.

It wouldn't be a very good discussion at all if everyone agreed :)

Thanks. That does help to me. Trying to see the big picture on everything. The city I live in has been compared to Austin as well. Sacramento, Ca.

So what time is the court thing on Wednesday? I'm trying to see what time it will be here since Adelaide is about 15+ hours ahead of me.

Somehow i think they are still looking for the knife/bladed weapon. I dont think they would just give up. There hasnt been any reports of it for a few days but after the arrest they were still looking. If they arent, i think they should be!. It would really helpful if they did find the weapon as i think it may provide more answers. I just hope the searchers are thinking outside the square when they are looking for it and not just thinking its going to be laying in some grass or in a creek/waterhole.

Yes i thought he worked in Nuri too according to what SB9257 said
