In the past, I've read about children being offered lifts within the Rockingham area. I'm referring to before Gerard was abducted. There's been a few cases where children have been asked if they want a ride. I'm trying to locate that article.

With regard to the two men seen struggling with a boy, the day after Gerard went missing. If those men were in their mid-30s back in 1997 then, they'd be in their mid-50s now. Either of those two men could be responsible for attempted abductions as far back as the early 1980s.

Thank you CV but that's not the link I had trouble posting. There is a very informative link on the Magistrates Court site. The Coroner has not ruled out abduction in this case. He is the only boy in Tasmania that has vanished into thin air, like GR.

Are we able to locate a list of various locations where the cults are or were?

I've also been told about a cult which I think was Children of the lesser God - or something which sounds very similar.

I only know about the Orange people who were in the south-west. I'm not suggesting they were in anyway involved with an abduction. JMO

In regard to other venues within the close vicinity of Kent St, Rockingham. Back in the 1990s Baldivis had an Accommodation Services in Eighty Rd. Baldivis is a neighbouring suburb of Rockingham.

An Accommodation Services (AS) is a place for troubled teenagers, which is managed/run by the local shire and the Department for child protection. In order for the teen to gain entry, they simply phone Crisis Care claim they're being hard done by, Crisis Care then arranges a taxi to the nearest AS.

Throughout the 3-months stay, the teen isn’t encouraged to go to school, instead they’re taken to Centrelink to make application for the Living Away from Home Allowance - which helps funds their stay. Early, each week day an AS employee drops all the teenagers off at the local shopping precinct, and the same day picked up in the late afternoon and taken back to the AS.

I cannot provide a reference, simply because the Accommodation Services aren’t advertised, but I’ve been inside the one in Eighty Rd, Baldivis. The above is what I observed about 2001.

Below is a link to a News.com article which is quite informative - 2013. It mentions other incidents of attempted abductions. The article took me ages to locate.

An old TV news report mentions an altercation between two people in the street Gerard disappeared from, on the morning he vanished. They were driving a faded brown or maroon station wagon. Note: Kent St, is a considerable length and has a few shops at the opposite end of where the Ross family were staying.

At the time Detective Sergeant Mike Miller said there had been reports, in the prior couple of years, of kids being stopped and attempts being made to get them into cars.

As you’re all probably aware Google Earth has a history timeline dating back to 2004. Along Kent St, during that era there were houses being built and some newish ones too. I wonder if Gerard was abducted from outside a building site.

It’s thought Gerard went missing at about 99 Kent St, which is not far from where the Ross family was staying.

If we look at Kent Streets houses, from Google Earth’s 2004 view and estimate any buildings, approximately 7-years-old that will indicate the buildings under construction during 1997.

Were there construction workers in the street? It was a Tuesday morning when Gerard was abducted – about 9.30am.

i.e. Builders, Bricklayers, roofing contractors, tilers, electricians, bitumen workers, driveway installers, garden contractors, painters, floor tilers etc, etc

Kent St Rockingham spans north to south 2.3kms – from No. 1 to 215. Its one street back from the Indian Ocean and the streets within the vicinity are within a grid system.

There’s two other main arterials spanning north to south such as Rockingham Beach Road, and Patterson Ave, yet the perpetrator chose to travel along a suburban street. Kent St has a couple of give-way-signs and roundabouts which requires the traffic to travel much slower than the two main roads.

The footpath on Kent St, is located on the left-hand-side, which is the same side as vehicle’s travel, therefore Gerard possibly didn’t see a vehicle approaching from behind. Each verge has a large-wide tree which may have partially obstructed the abduction view.

My thoughts are the perp. was living or working in the vicinity and travelling to the Kent St shopping precinct. Travelling from the north of Kent St to the south of Kent St.

I’ve had a look at real estate websites for properties on Kent St, between Nos. 95 to109. It’s speculated Gerard was abducted from outside number 99.

There’s three properties which have sparked my interest, which are:

No. 101 – Sold April 1997 (built 1940s) same road side as No. 99

No. 103 – Sold Dec 1997 (built 1960s) same road side as No. 99

No. 104 – No property data (built before 2004 according to Google Earth) property opposite 103

The remainder of those properties mentioned are either older homes or built before 1997.

It looks like there’s a small Telstra pit outside No. 100, which is next to the footpath (between the letter box and light pole). The older style which have a rectangular concrete lid.

Interesting. I imagine that the sellers of the property would have had a manual phone disconnect before the sale. Also, manual meter reads of other services provided (like electricity).

If GR had horrific injuries, then I think it's probably fair to assume that he was taken by a sadist. Surely this person would have come under Police radar for something else (like animal cruelty)?

Would the RSPCA have archived information on such people? Not just the ones who were convicted. All reports. Especially animals with similar injuries, as they often kill animals before people (apparently).

The Police could probably also recheck their archives for fire bugs prior to 97, and see where they are now, and where they were in 1997? jmo
