From NSW Police Force, January 18, 2022

A man will face court today charged with murder following an investigation into the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl.

Strike Force Buena was established by Blue Mountains Police Area Command, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, to investigate the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl after she was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday (14 January 2022).

Following extensive investigations, officers attached to the strike force yesterday (Tuesday 18 January 2022), conducted a search in the vicinity of the Colo River.

With the assistance of the Police Divers, Hawkesbury Police Area Command, Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Operational Support Group (OSG) and Police Rescue Squad, the body of a child was located in a barrel. The body is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established and is being examined by specialist forensic officers.

As part of ongoing investigations, detectives attached to Strike Force Buena attended a unit in Riley Street, Surry Hills about 8.30pm last night (Tuesday 18 January 2022), and arrested a 31-year-old man.

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with murder.

The man was refused bail to appear in Central Local Court today (Wednesday 19 January 2022).

Investigations under Strike Force Buena are continuing.

Police have confirmed human remains found last night were "consistent" with those of a nine-year-old girl who went missing in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

A man was charged with the murder of the girl last night.

The girl was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday, January 14.

SUB JUDICE

As an arrest has been made in this matter, under Australian law this case is now under sub judice throughout the entire judicial process until such time as the time to appeal has passed or an appeal is completed.

Previous threads discussing this case have been pulled due to the victim's name being contained throughout.

Members must use initials only for the name of both the accused and the victim. If you quote something from MSM, please ensure both the quoted material AND the hyperlink do not contain the name of either the accused or the victim

IMPORTANT: Under sub-judice, the following is not allowed:

Anything that may prejudice the accused’s right to a fair trial (i.e. any suggestions or direct accusations that the accused is either guilty or innocent)

Calling the accused "the killer" or "murderer" (it has to be "the accused", the "alleged killer" or "the defendant")

References to a defendant’s previous history of any offences

Scandalizing the court (disparaging judges/lawyers, any officer of the Court)

Broadcasting anything about proceedings which happen in the jury's absence

Any non compliance with an Order of the court

Do not post anything that violates the above principles.

Breaching sub judice can result in charges of contempt of court.

Thank you.

Previously had posted this, but was thread has been pulled, so will re-post. Seems that someone else did know of JS's plan. It was more than a case of simply analysing phone records. We do not know how long the interception had been in place.

How they tracked down alleged killer

"NSW Police revealed they became suspicious of the 31-year-old man with a "number of abnormalities" over his movements in the days leading up to the child's disappearance.

A team of more than 200 detectives were assigned to the case where they scoured through hours of CCTV footage and GPS data to find the accused killer and the missing child.

Authorities also intercepted calls between the accused and the girl's mother where they allegedly discussed a plan to buy 20 kilo sandbags from a hardware store to take onto a boat located at a dock in inner Sydney.

The mother is currently under health care and has been "difficult to approach and contact" but police hope to speak with her once doctor's give her the all clear."

They're still waiting to speak to the girl's mother because she's under guard at a hospital and 'hard to approach'.

Footage of the man's arrest was released on Wednesday afternoon, showing as he walked from the car to the holding cell at Surry Hills Police Station with his hands cuffed in front of him.

He wore a grey Everlast jumper and shorts which he was still dressed in when he fronted court on Wednesday morning.

The grandparents, who have custody of the child, have been informed of the discovery.

"Our thoughts go out to them and all the other remaining family members," the Deputy Comm said.

from the skynews article above:

"NSW Police revealed they became suspicious of the 31-year-old man with a "number of abnormalities" over his movements in the days leading up to the child's disappearance."

Just to be clear, by "in the days leading up to the child's disappearance", they mean until the child was reported missing, correct?

Respectfully the above is incorrect and based on an incorrect interpretation of the what the Deputy Commissioner said at the press conference, which we have either all seen or heard ourselves, or can do so. It is on the web.

He did not say that they intercepted calls on Thursday 13th, or that JS told KM about the sandbags and fuel. In fact they would had to have Nostradamus intuition in order to pre empt that. They can also not retrospectively 'record' your conversation after the fact. That metadata simply does not exist, even if they were given the right to access.

What he said that, from call logs, GPS and other electronic records (eg purchases and CCTV), they have ascertained that JS made calls to KM , then bought sandbags, fuel and tried to launch boat.
The transcript was posted in the previous thread. I will try and find one again.

If we all stick to the original facts, rather than quoting sensationalist tabloid sources, we can keep this discussion going, otherwise it will go in the direction of the previous one.

thanks

Watching or reading news of what you have actually seen yourself is eye opening.

"Through GP tracking..." i.e. the GPS tracking record of his cell phone, becomes " With GPS trackers". Then someone who didn't see original presser, will innocently say "they put GPS trackers on him", or intercepted calls etc even though that would be impossible timeline wise.
Its like Chinese whispers.

It is not the fault of posters relaying this info from outlets, inc the three commercial channels. This is why there is distrust of MSM

What is wrong with people?????? My heart breaks for her, plus her grandmother and bio-dad. I hope they are getting every ounce of support needed. I have no words for the anger I am feeling right now for the accused and the female who may also be involved.

Edited to add in light of Chunkie Charlie's post saying the calls between the two organising the sandbags and fuel was mis-reported.
