A couple charged with murdering a toddler who vanished in regional Queensland more than four years ago has faced court.

Sinitta Dawita, 28, and her fiance Tane Desatge, 40, are accused of murdering her daughter Kaydence Dawita Mills.

The couple did not apply for bail as they faced Dalby Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Kaydence was born in September 2014 but was last seen in 2016.

Police launched an investigation into her disappearance late last year.

They dug up a backyard at a Chinchilla home in December with the aim of finding the little girl.

On Sunday officers declared a crime scene at the Chinchilla Weir, on the Western Downs inland from Brisbane.

Soon afterwards the couple was charged with murder, torture and interfering with a corpse.

Dawita and Desatge were remanded in custody for a committal mention on June 30 in the same court.

A 40-year-old Chinchilla man and a 28-year-old woman from the same area were both charged with murder, torture and interfering with a corpse.

Both are known to Kaydence, who would now be five.

Police also searched a Chinchilla home, where they excavated the backyard.

Cadaver dogs were used in the search, but Kaydence was not found.

'Investigators are searching the property and speaking to a number of persons who may be able to assist with the investigation,' a police spokesman said.

Police have found human remains at a weir in Chinchilla, just one day after a Queensland mother and her partner were charged over the murder and torture of a young girl.

On Tuesday, skeletal remains were found at a weir in Chinchilla, where a crime scene had earlier been declared.

A spokesman for Queensland Police said the remains are undergoing testing to confirm whether they are in fact the missing girl, and as the matter is before the courts, no further information can be provided.

More to come.

Skeletal Remains Found After Police Charge Mum, Her Partner, With Murder Of Young Girl

The court heard a witness statement claimed the little girl was "abused every day," "had to sleep on the toilet floor as she had nowhere else to sleep," and "lived like an animal" at the family home in Chinchilla.

The court also heard the witness said the last time she saw the little girl she was lying on the couch covered in bruises – but she was gone the next day
"[The witness said Ms Dawita and Mr Desatge] said she had gone … [Ms Dawita] told her not to say anything and threw all of Kaydence's belongings out."

This is a very shocking case, poor little Kaydence, she was abused every day by her parents and there were witnesses who did absolutely nothing to save her!
If only the sentence would reflect the seriousness of the crime, they both deserve life in prison! JMO
