''On this day in 2008, 23-year-old Laura Haworth left her friend's Queanbeyan house, and her loved ones have not seen or heard from her since.

Key points:

  • Laura Haworth was last seen in Queanbeyan on Saturday, January 5, 2008
  • ACT Policing says people in Canberra for Summernats 16 years ago might hold clues about Ms Haworth's disappearance
  • Her family says the pain of having no answers has been "brutal"
The weekend Ms Haworth went missing coincided with the 21st Summernats car festival in Canberra.''

'She did not indicate whether police believed the link between Ms Haworth's disappearance and Summernats 2008 ran any deeper than the fact that they occurred on the same weekend'.

''The then-23-year-old left in her red Mazda 121 and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Her car was later found on 18 January parked at Kanangra Court in Reid.

Laura had two children, aged 2 and 3, when she vanished.

ACT Policing believes there are people in the region who have information about Laura and where she could be.

Investigators have urged anyone who has information about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance to come forward.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small, could be of importance to police,” a statement read.''

Laura Haworth, then aged 23, was last seen in Queanbeyan, NSW on 5 January 2008. NSW and ACT police formed Strike Force Viking on 29 July 2024 to investigate her disappearance.

"Police have received information to lead us to suspect that she met with foul play on or about that time," ACT Policing Detective Acting Inspector Adam Rhynehart said.

"Despite extensive investigations at the time and over the years, Laura has never been located."

We believe there is someone out there that knows something about Laura's disappearance. Queanbeyan and Canberra during the Summer holiday period is a transient area with people travelling back and forth from the Coast. In addition, with Summernats on the weekend Laura disappeared, there could be people out there from other parts of the state who may have been in the ACT and have information," Detective Chief Inspector Grey said.

"We plead for those people to help bring Laura home and provide some closure for Laura's family who have now been forced to celebrate 16 birthdays and special holidays without Laura. They deserve to know what happened to their daughter, sister and mother."
