Thanks Saussie, I did read that but didn't connect the dots! Yet it seems they got to him anyway.

Agree JJ! Hi Superbird!!
Does anyone know if there is a reason for SG to be on suicide watch, or is this just normal procedure in a case like this?

I think it might be a bit of both - protection from harming themselves and protection from others at what would probably be the most vulnerable time of imprisonment (the beginning). Not to mention, he is currently in a Remand Prison at Silverwater that holds mostly unconvicted or unsentenced prisoners, then it is likely he will transfer to a mainstream prison (I read possibly Goulburn or Lithgow) after sentencing in Feb 2014 - They appear to be deemed high security and hold inmates for more serious crimes. :jail:

The past 2 days I have been taking my time reading over the Judgment. I printed off the 50 page document and took it to bed and finally finished it in the early hours this morning. I didn't realise how many witnesses were called during the trial. As I sifted through the detail, I became particularly focussed on the various text messages between SG and LH. I started to ask myself 'Did he love her'? given his actions and his communication with LH didn't seem 'normal' and then toward the end, I started to ask myself 'Did he even "like" her' ? He seemed to hold her in contempt and treated her like a pest or annoyance. (IMO) I feel so very sad for Lisa and that the last months of her life were clearly nothing but miserable. I can only imagine her frustration, confusion and bewilderment over this relationship that just wasn't working.
I found this article - it is only 2 pages, but if you have read the judgment and it's detail, I'm sure you will find chilling similarities.(IMO)

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/simon-gittany-was-jailed-for-drug-dealing-in-2000-20131129-2ygj9.html

Very little new information but:

"Court documents reveal police noticed a nervous Gittany sitting in the passenger seat of the car, which was stopped on Manning Road at Double Bay on March 29, 2000.
An officer noticed a bulge in his pants and asked him what he was hiding.
Gittany pulled out a wad of mostly $50 notes. Then he bolted.
He was chased to nearby Wallaroy Road, where he was seen to dump a plastic container in a garden bed.
It contained 55 white tablets stamped with “Y2K”.
He jumped the fence of a house nearby and tried to hide in the front yard but a security light came on and gave away his hiding spot.
Police arrested Gittany and found he had stuffed $4500 down his pants and a further $707.60 in his back pocket."

Is that a stash of Es in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? :drumroll:

Cash, Pills and Violence in Gittany's past

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/11/29/16/34/cash-pills-and-violence-in-gittany-s-past

From that same report...

He pleaded guilty to supplying a prohibited drug and was sentenced to weekend and home detention.

Unemployed at the time of his arrest, Gittany told a court he was setting up a cleaning business.

I wonder just how many businesses he has "set up" over the years.

NSW police are no doubt extremely happy SG is now off the streets!

Simon Gittany case a tough judge-alone trial
November 29, 2013, by Richard Ackland, Sydney Morning Herald columnist.

One of the puzzles of the Simon Gittany case was why such a high-profile murder trial was heard in the Supreme Court without a jury. The oft-reported explanation was Gittany was short of funds, but that's not the entire story... Josh Rathmell was due to migrate to America...

The Crown, the DPP, had partial veto over a request for a judge-alone trial. In cases where each side do not together consent, it is left to the judge to decide, ''in the interests of justice''...

Mark Tedeschi, the prosecutor, remained ''formally opposed'' to trial by a judge alone, but preferred Judge alone to a lengthy adjournment...

So that was the background to Justice McCallum, rather than a jury of 12, making a finding of guilt.

A Tough Judge-alone Trial:, November 29, 2013, excerpts from article by Richard Ackland:

...we are in the internet age ...

"We even had a congratulatory media release on Wednesday from the Attorney-General saying he was impressed
. Twitterers did such a good job during the delivery of the lengthy verdict. The tweets were informative and accurate. Greg Smith said that, from what he had seen, all varieties of the media had engaged in ''respectful and responsible reporting which helped educate the public''.

Thank you to the accurate journalist twitterers.

#Gittany Officisl: Simon Gittany not just murderer, narcissist, perjurer, thief, drug-dealer, cop-basher, but lied about his age. He's 40.

Murderer Simon Gittany's violent and drug-dealing past revealed
By Thomas Oriti, staff, 28 Nov 2013, 5:16pm AEDT

More details are emerging about the criminal past of Simon Gittany, who was found guilty yesterday of murdering his fiancée Lisa Harnum.

A wake-up call to the dangers

Support groups have warned the controlling and manipulative behaviour of Gittany is typical of perpetrators of domestic violence.

Hi JudgeJudy,

Did you purchase the Judgement or is it available online somewhere? Thanks.

At the sentencing hearing, the defence has the opportunity to put forward evidence and arguments about what the sentence should be.
http://www.sentencingcouncil.lawlin...il_sentencing_hearing.html#sentencing_hearing

If SG still has a defence team in February, what on earth are they going to say to try to minimise his sentence?

He shows remorse – No
He is a responsible business owner – No
He has family responsibilities – No
He has never shown violent tendencies before – No
He was cooperative and forthcoming with police – No
He doesn’t have any prior convictions - No
