Chris Dawson allegedly contacted a man with "criminal connections" to discuss plans to get rid of his wife Lynette Dawson, a Sydney court has heard.

“She didn't collect her last paycheck, she left contact lenses at home, she didn't pursue a $130 pre-paid ophthalmology appointment. Her clothes were left at home, all of them. She didn't drive, she didn't have a licence, she hasn't left via an international point of departure, she hasn't been to a doctor”, Mr Everson said.

Chris Dawson bail application on a charge of murdering wife Lyn Dawson

Mr Walsh said his client had a “close, loving relationship” with his family. Mr Dawson, wearing prison greens, placed his face into his hands and broke down crying as Mr Walsh told the court he was “a good father (and) husband”. Mr Dawson also cried when two cards he wrote to his teen lover soon after his wife disappeared were read out in court.

“Hoping it’s a happy day for you … you deserve happiness and love. All my love always, Chris,” one of the cards read.

Interesting that Chris Dawson cried when two cards he wrote to the then teenage Joanne were read out in court. Very interesting IMO!

Just finished reading the Inquest 2003 Day 5 transcript and I hadn't realized, or perhaps had forgotten, that Chris Dawson was proposing to Joanne even before Lyn disappeared. I think that is absolutely pertinent. As is that Chris Dawson was looking to put the family home on the market without Lyn's approval, again before Lyn disappeared.

I'm amazed Joanne kept them. I wonder what else she has!

Bugger!

The decision on Chris #Dawson's bail application will be delivered on Monday. @9NewsSyd

I watched Channel 9, afternoon news in Melbourne.
In the article about Chris Dawson, "The decision on Chris #Dawson's bail application will be delivered on Monday."

At the end, a summary was given, of Breaking News.
The Announcer then stated : "CHRIS DAWSON WAS DENIED BAIL".
Very Evident of POOR reporting.
MOO.

Chris Dawson will remain behind bars at least until Monday after a fiery bail hearing during which he was admonished by the magistrate for loudly exclaiming “That’s a joke” and laughing “You’re kidding” as the prosecution outlined its case in Sydney’s Central Local Court.

The former sports teacher accused of the cold case murder of his wife Lynette Dawson in 1982 appeared via videolink from Silverwater Jail wearing prison greens, his deep tan faded since his arrest last week.

Crown prosecutor Craig Everson opposed Dawson’s bail application saying he looked so much like his twin brother Paul and they could pass each for each other.

That’s when Dawson, 70, said loudly and laughed: “You’re joking.”

Magistrate Robert Williams said: “Mr Dawson it’s better if you are quiet.”

Dawson replied: “Sorry sir, I didn’t know you could hear me.”

He had earlier spoken out as Mr Everson was casting doubt on the claimed sightings of Lynette after she disappeared on January 9, 1982.

Dawson has maintained she went missing from their Bayview home on Sydney’s northern beaches, telling him she wanted some “time”.

Mr Everson said there was “serious doubt” about the reported sightings including one woman who claimed she had seen Lynette on the Central Coast getting into a car and driving off.

“She couldn’t drive and she didn’t have a car,” Mr Everson said.

Dawson said loudly: “You’re joking.”

His lawyer Greg Walsh argued his client should get bail because the case against him was only circumstantial.

Lynette Dawson has been missing since 1982.
Dawson’s older brother Peter Dawson, 72, was in court and Mr Walsh said he was prepared to lodge a surety of $750,000 and Dawson himself would match that surety with a Queensland home worth more than $1 million.

Mr Walsh said Dawson hadn’t tried to interfere with witnesses even though it was almost three decades since Lynette went missing and despite the massive publicity of The Teacher’s Pet podcast, which has been downloaded 31 million times around the world.

Mr Everson opposed bail and said Dawson was an “unacceptable flight risk”.

Magistrate Mr Williams adjourned the case to 2pm on Monday and remanded Dawson in custody until then.

A house worth over $1 million. I didn't think his Mt Coolum house was worth that, about $655,000 according to a real estate site, or his rental in Runaway Bay surely wouldn't be worth that. Is there another house?

Looks like a few more million downloads too.

And yet, she managed to hitchhike her way to Sydney airport, with no luggage and no clothes, and somehow got on a plane to NZ, apparently paying by cash, and disappeared. Perhaps Peter Dawson's mother in law was there to welcome her.

So that story will be his defence.

It has probably been answered before, but where were Joanne's parents in this? Really? Would you be pleased if your 16 year old moved in with a man in his thirties whose wife had disappeared?

Chris Dawson allegedly threatened to "get rid of" his ex-wife during a marriage counselling session before she vanished from Sydney's northern beaches 37 years ago, a court has heard.

Crown prosecutor Craig Everson told the court that during a counselling session, Mr Dawson told Ms Dawson, "if this doesn't work, I'll get rid of you".

"The accused approached another person, a man who had criminal connections, about how he'd go about getting rid of his ex-wife," Mr Everson said.

Chris Dawson threatened to 'get rid of' his wife Lyn, court hears

How did they find out about this? Was the Counsellor found?

joannes parents were separated.
her dad didn't like it, wanted her to move in with him (which was another area of Sydney) and told her to cut it out with the teacher or he wouldn't talk to her (not verbatim but general gist)
joannes mother has lied here and there about it all.
reading between the lines think it was just convenient to have one less hassle in the house with mums new boyfriend.

so joanne did have options.
she chose to be with her lover and stop talking to her dad.

iirc moo

don't think that's quite correct.
on the way to the councellor chris said this to lyn (according to her friend from the daycare centre) if this doesnt work im getting rid of you and choked her up against the lift wall....when she went back to work she told the girls what he said but laughed it off??
think likely because then they had the session and lyn walked out feeling like all was going to be ok.
that night he killed her.

imo moo iirc

he held her hand as he walked her into work.
