Family of young mum 'know who killed her'
A $1500 Christmas hamper could prove the case-breaker in the mysterious murder of Victorian mother-of-one Maddison Murphy-West.

can someone explain a bit more to me about the hamper? here where I live Christmas hampers are 'given' to the recipients - they're mostly made up of food items donated by community & charity members

but the article says Maddison was saving for her Christmas hamper, which was worth $1500 ... so it's clear to me that the Australian & Canadian hampers are vastly different things

Basically they are hampers that you layby. You pick out what you want and then pay weekly/fortnightly etc and they are delivered around November/December :)

Edited: I've been curious about the hamper. It's only been mentioned that once as far as I know which is strange if its such an important clue :/

I think the hamper probably *cost* $1500. I think it was probably *worth* significantly less. Christmas Hampers are a rip off, and prey on the mathematically deficient and hard-of-thinking. This article about one of the big Christmas Hamper vendors, Chrisco, is golden: http://thingsboganslike.com/2009/12/24/55-chrisco-hampers/

Thank you for helping to clarify what a "hamper" is in Australia...

In the USA a hamper is a furniture item in which clothes that are to be washed are kept...

they are often made of (but not limited to) large baskets, wood, cardboard with covering... And are often the size of a large waste container...

FYI...

and... JMO...

Take a look at this link. I can't recall the name of the person this supposedly refers to. Have they been mentioned in any media reports or anything that someone can provide a link to?

Here's a media report that may be of interest to you........it interviews various friends, including this one:

"Friend Meaghan Vander Ree described Ms Murphy-West as an "amazing mother"

Yes... I was quite confused regarding the "hamper" event...:crosseyed:

I was wondering why a dirty clothes bin would be so expensive... And WHO would want to STEAL one, as well?

:laughcry:

:silly:

Actually ... us Americans do use the term "thongs", too...

But when I was growing up we used the word thongs for beachwear shoes... I got "in trouble" using "thongs" in the old fashioned way when I was teaching...the kids thought I was talking about undies! :blushing:

:silly:

FYI... For all you vocabulary lovin' Sleuthers...

I learned yesterday that "chonies" is another word for undies, too! :behind:

It seemed to Paula her beautiful daughter had finally found the will to leave: “Her 21st was to be in July this year and she was determined he wouldn’t be there to wreck it the way he’s wrecked every birthday since they met. She was looking forward to a new life but she didn’t make it.”

She knows Troy was crying the next morning when his mother reached the scene, but doubts it was genuine. Later that day, she claims, he was seen in Seaford scoring drugs.

And when a friend asked him next day how Maddy was, he said: “Great!”

Another new article ....

CHILLING parallels have emerged between the death of a Melbourne mum and Mark “Chopper” Read’s televised murder confession.

Three days after the interview was run, the body of Maddison Murphy-West was found at her home in Aherns Rd, Pakenham.

She was found hung from a door handle in what was initially thought to be a case of suicide.

Yes, apparently there is a 'new' girlfriend for Troy Boothey <shudder> ... hope she keeps herself, and any children that may be living in the house, safe!

What a life for little children! Makes you wonder what kind of adults they will grow into, doesn't it? Being around ice-taking people while they are growing up. That will be their 'norm'. :( Thank goodness Maddy's little boy has been removed.

Justice for Maddy
