  • Tuesday, 12 April 2016 16:55

Homicide Squad detectives have today charged a woman with murder following the death of a 14 month old girl in Heidelberg West.

The body of baby Sanaya Sahib was located in the Darebin Creek about 2.45am on Sunday.

A 22-year-old woman has been charged with one count of murder and will face an out of session’s court hearing at the 313 Spencer Street Police Complex shortly.

Investigators are no longer looking for anyone else in relation to this investigation.

Oh no.
I wanted to believe that perhaps someone else had done it and she had somehow been coerced in to the cover-up under the threat of violence/death.
Which was not really a better scenario...but it was easier to think that the killer was anyone OTHER than the mother.

ETA:
22. So young. For some reason I thought she was a little older...

In the arms of the Angels Sanaya. RIP little one x

Step up and admit motherhood is too hard and give your child to a caring family, give it a fighting chance.

Why the **** murder an innocent child who you gave birth. How could a mother do it?!!? No excuse! No excuse!

What's going on in this world, it's gone fruit loops.

Taking the mother away for welfare reasons was unheard of, it maybe that the family was interfering with the police efforts to interview the mother and the mother had to be separated for that purpose, hence the reports of the mother being told not to have contact with family members.

Oh no. I knew it was suspicious from the start, but when all the information about the family came out, I wondered if one of them were involved rather than the mother. I actually see it as an additional tragedy that a 22 year old woman was surrounded by dangerous criminals and had a violent marriage, with the pressure reaching the point where she would harm her own child. I'm also making the assumption that she was fairly insulated from the mainstream community if she didn't know that 10 am Saturday was the least likely point of the whole week for you to say that a drunken barefoot stranger had run off with your baby.
She could not have done this entirely alone though? Could she have said goodbye to her hosts on Saturday morning with a living baby in a pram, returned with an empty pram so the disappearance could be reported to the police, and then dumped the body afterwards? Where was the body for the 14 (?) hours between abduction and discovery? If it had been in the creek all that time, it would have been found sooner, and if she was in that area of the park for that long, she would have known it was too crowded and busy for a bizarre outdoor abduction.
There are still a lot of mysteries about this case.

So they're no longer looking for a poorly dressed and poorly described African baby napper? Colour me shocked.

The body was likely submerged at first then either surfaced or was washed close enough to the edge of the creek to be observed.

Maybe those two women who escorted her away been undercover cops rather than welfare women?

I've learnt NEVER again pass judgement on a mother who makes the hardest decision on earth to give up her child.
Now I admire them. Now I understand a lot more

Damn these piss weak child murdering parents to hell!

So angry! I am so sorry you were failed by your own mother Sanaya. xoxox
