Firefighters have saved the property of Wieambilla shooting victim Alan Dare after an out-of-control bushfire raged through the area this week.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said it was too early to determine the cause of the blaze, but it was treating the bushfire as suspicious.

Rural Fire Service regional manager for the south-west region, Superintendent Wayne Waltisbuhl said investigations were underway with police assisting.

"There's a few things at the point of origin we've identified and we've got two experienced fire investigators coming up early next week.

Not sure what is going on in that area, but the Courier Mail says ... "There have been multiple fires in the area since the shoot but this recent fire started early on December 20."

Deputy Commissioner Linford said the wide-ranging investigation involved the counter terrorism command and other specialist police teams, but the shooting was not classed as "a domestic terror event".

"What we can see is a sentiment displayed by the three individuals … that appears anti-government, anti-police, conspiracy theorist type," she said.

So the search involved the counter terrorism command and other specialist police teams, but the shooting was not classed as a “domestic terror event.”

I wonder what is the threshold for the event to be re-classified as such? Or perhaps it is in fact a D. T. E. but it’s not in the interests of Government - or the investigation- to label it as such, at this point in time.

I wonder how the partner of N. T. is doing - and the adult children of the Trains? I can’t imagine how they would feel.

Definitely in the same vein.
But it was so real that through covid the Aussie “live and let live” spirit was almost eradicated. It was every man for himself. It was really hard times socially, politically, mentally, financially etc.
people lost jobs, families broke up, people self cancelled because of isolation, family breakdown, financial ruin etc and everyone lived in fear if the government even busting you for an opinion on Facebook. Like people were raided for simply disagreeing let alone the Q conspiracy people.
With everyone so highly strung there was a lot of paranoia and survival mentality which often meant a phone all to the police if you saw a “breach” of mandate.
geezzz.
I, for one, so greatly appreciated all of the folks around the world who were on the Covid thread... We really did all learn so very much from each other.
Oh, how I remember how many folks from other countries, other continents just could not understand the craziness and outrageous conspiracy in the US of A.

I greatly appreciated it also. Learned a lot, especially how to protect myself, my loved ones, my community.

NT was a danger to the children he spent his days with. Australia was trying very hard to protect our susceptible indigenous population from the first deadly and highly contagious covid strain. NT was principal in a school that had an indigenous student body, and yet he refused to get vaccinated.

imo

The innocent neighbour gunned down in a deadly shootout on Queensland's Western Downs last week has been remembered by his family as a much-loved "hero" who was about to enjoy his new life with his grandchildren.

Alan Dare's wife of 26 years, Kerry Dare, said her husband enjoyed a wonderful life.

"We've all lost a hero that could have done a lot more," Mrs Dare said.

"He was just ready to start enjoying these grandchildren and his new house and our new life.

"He built our house with his own hands and was ready to tell people, 'Come look, see what I've done.'

"I'm not sad about his life, he had a *advertiser censored**ing wonderful life."

'He's a hero'

Members of the public lined the procession route ahead of the funeral, some holding flags and signs displaying "Our Hero:

Among them was the Springall family, who said they wanted "to show support, especially so close to Christmas".

Another person, Annette Kilby, said she did not know Mr Dare but was moved by the tragedy and wanted to pay tribute.

"He's a hero," she said.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed the state government would contribute to the costs of the service.

I’m going to hazard a guess and say what’s going on is civil unrest within the region.

IMO it's more likely to be vandals and firebugs/arsonists. Crime scenes draw people who like to act out. An arson attack on a house where a murder was committed isn't an unusual thing to happen, anywhere. And also, this is Australia in the summertime. Arson that causes bushfires is an incredibly big problem. A large number of the fires we have evey year are deliberately lit, and people go out to the bush, to remote or rural areas to do it most of the time.

All good points, iamshadow21.

I know it wouldn't bring Alan back, but I woke up this morning thinking of Alan's wife, never expecting that he wouldn't be here at Christmas.

Anyway I was wondering if she would be eligible for victims of crime, or is that only a state thing and maybe Queensland isn't part of it.

Hi TootsieFootsie:

$98’509.00 had been raised for this outstanding and selfless hero as of 25 December, 2022.

“Hi, my name is Brett Hovey, I am trying to raise funds for our friend who was tragically taken.”

I’m not sure how QLD victims of crime payouts are managed or if that is something that occurs up in Queensland.

My heart goes out to Allan Dare’s family, friends and community who loved him.

For those wanting to know a little bit more about Australia and guns, and the pros, cons, strengths, weaknesses, etc of how we currently do things and how they're talking about improving things. Could the proposed updates have prevented this? Probably not. But they could prevent other crimes, and improve communication and information sharing, especially between different regional areas about specific weapons, gun owners, and people restricted from owning guns.

Australia has millions of guns. But how well do we track them?

Now an ABC investigation has confirmed Nathaniel Train broke through the border gate on the Boongangar Bridge over the Macintyre River to enter Queensland in December 2021, months after his resignation from Walgett Community School.

The state's land border had opened just days earlier but only to people who were fully vaccinated.

A Queensland farmer in the Goondiwindi region who asked not to be named said he had contacted police about the incident after finding Train on a flooded road near the border.

The farmer said Train had tried to ram his black Toyota LandCruiser through the border gates.

When that failed, the farmer said Train used an angle grinder to cut the padlock on the gates and drive into Queensland.

The farmer said he found documents near where the vehicle had been, including some that identified him as Nathaniel Train and outlined his work history at a NSW school.

He said he contacted police about the vehicle and the border breach, fearing the car might have been stolen.

Police told him because the vehicle had not been stolen, there was nothing they could do, he said.

Weapons strewn across flooded creek bed

Hours later when water began receding beside the vehicle, the farmer said they began finding weapons.

He said that among the items Train had ditched in the creek were at least three firearms – "short scrub sort of weapons" and ammunition.

He said the firearms were retrieved from the water and found to be loaded.

He said he contacted police about the weapons and they were eventually taken away.

"They were short-range weapons,'' he said.

"We assumed they were either stolen or unregistered. I rang the police a day after to report it."

As of this Friday, Train's Toyota LandCruiser 200 series was still on the farmer's property.

Checks on the 4WD's registration plates have revealed the vehicle had been registered in NSW until October 28, 2022.

Um, can anyone tell me what a short-range weapon is? Is that a typical farming-type weapon for shooting animals?

Or is it like a shorn off shotgun or a glock or what?

I’m trying to think if N Train would have had a license to carry short-range weapons?

Thank you, people.

Also - who retrieved the loaded firearms from the water? Surely not the farmer/witness who contacted police?!?!

That sounds really dangerous to have loaded weapons and also ammunition just sort of floating around in a creek.... again I’m very, very relieved that the farmer wasn’t harmed. It sounds like luck was on his side. We can be thankful he lived to tell the tale.

May not be connected, but it's close, and very, very worrying.

Police make emergency declaration after reports of gun shots at Tara, in Queensland's Western Downs

I'm sure people from the US or even parts of the UK are used to 'shelter in place' warnings because of current gun crime or events of terrorism, but I have to say, the only time as an Australian I remember hearing of one was during extreme weather, bushfire, or flooding. They probably had one during the Lindt cafe siege, but I wasn't in Sydney then.

This is not normal, and that along with the proximity to last month's event is what makes me think there's a possible link.

They say that the police station is in the area affected. Another report says that shots were fired at a civilian car.

Alleged perpetrators in the incident yesterday at Tara are 14-16 years of age.

Shots were fired at a civilian car. Originally reported that shots were fired at a police car, which was then correctly updated to reflect shots were fired at a civilian vehicle.
