We know nothing of custody dispute. Complicated family situation could mean many things, they won't elaborate.
It would be easier to locate him if he was kidnapped by someone he knows. It was such a short time window, 5 minutes they say, it makes kidnapping very unlikely imo.

Hi I'm new but have often visited ws (lurker). I have my theories on the parenting situation stemming from interviews that irked me but couldn't figure out why and reading those icky social media sites. Yesterday I was watching a news clip for the 500th time And in my mind I had a lightening bolt and think I have that situation worked out MOO but realise they can't be divulged. I think I understand why the f parents "haven't" spoken to the media .But other than that I'm stuck.

Hi Tallex, and welcome. We cant really speculate on the family- as very frustrating as it is. I always assumed that whatever dads "errand" was, the police didnt want to reveal exactly where he was- might make it easier to identify who he is, and upset whatever the legal requirement for secrecy is.

a basement or attic or locked room, lots of toys, books, dvds, keep them inside, but you would surely (hopefully) need someone else to babysit when you go out for supplies etc or to work?
wasnt some young woman in america kept hidden as a prisoner in someones back yard for years, the yard was kept private from neighbours with giant tarpaulins, the neighbours were shocked when they knew she had been living there.
hope wherever he is, if someone has him, little williams heart isnt sad and missing his family and hes being treated with love and kindness

I haven't seen any reports of any of the neighbours or anyone else seeing William. There is a photo- the one of William in the Spiderman Suit- which has been verified as having been taken within an hour of him being reported missing. It shows William, in the outfit he was reported to be wearing, on the deck of the house he was reported missing from.

The phone on which the last photograph of William was taken has been analysed — the photo was taken “within an hour” of his disappearance.

William's sister has been interviewed
Police have interviewed William's young sister, who was playing with him just before he disappeared, but she was unable to shed any light on her brother's disappearance, police said.

I hope that the police who interviewed her were child specialists!

Family are said to be cooperating, but cannot be identified. <modsnip>

There was a photo taken of William playing on his grandmother's back deck. The photo was taken by mobile phone approximately one hour before he disappeared. Police said they verified it was taken within this timeframe. At least one neighbour has said the family arrived the night before William went missing, but I'm not sure if he actually saw them arrive or if he heard about it.
<modsnip>
Police took questions from the media whilst the search was on, and they stated that the family have been cooperating with the investigation. In video footage, one of the police officers told the reporters quite brusquely that he would not be speculating about the family. It was reported that the grandmother was a respected member of the community, and that the parents were visiting from Sydney. So far the police and media have been very sympathetic and respectful towards the family, however they say that the family cannot be named for legal reasons / that William has a complicated family history.

In footage taken shortly after William disappeared (within the first couple of days), the police said they had spoken to the sister but she was unable to provide any new information - only that she was playing with her brother and then he was no longer there. Other news articles mentioned they were playing "chaseys". I don't know if this is "hide-and-seek" - I think they were just chasing each other around the house.

Did she point and say William walked away that way? Did she say that he got into a car with someone? Or that there was any other adult outside with them?
Police won't reveal much of what the sister told them, only what was said above. It was reported that the mother and grandmother were outside in the back yard while the children played - then the adults went inside to make a cup of tea. According to reports, there was a good view of the front yard from inside.

It was reported that the father was away running errands and returned home right away to help search for William. Police say they have checked all alibis of family and extended family, and everything checked out. They say there was no evidence of family conflict. We do know from the media that there is a "complicated family history" but they have not elaborated.

Homicide cops join search for missing William Tyrell

December 21, 2014 12:04PM

HOMICIDE detectives have joined the search for little William Tyrell, who vanished from his grandmother’s home on the NSW mid-north coast in early September.
Police are not treating the three-year-old’s disappearance as a murder, but homicide squad officers are involved to “ensure a thorough investigation”, a spokesman told AAP on Sunday.

“We have no evidence to suggest a particular scenario at this stage,” he said.

I wasn't sure what to think of this at first as I saw it in The Daily Telegraph and their reporting of other unrelated events has been sensationalist and questionable, but it has been picked up by a few other outlets: The Guardian, Nine News.
What's confusing though is I'm sure I read that the homicide squad were brought in from the beginning, along with some other squads?

Edit: Also from the Daily Mail. If this is accurate it sheds more light:

In a major turn for the investigation, murder squad officers are now leading inquiries - meaning the case is no longer a missing persons investigation.

Could this mean they now PUBLICLY recognize William may have gone missing under suspicious circumstances.

I would assume when a child goes missing, they would investigate ALL possibilities right away, including whether there is a reason to suspect foul play.

They have not identified any suspects, they may or may not have one.
It could just mean after two months hope is fading for missing boy.

I just find it odd that this has been published now. We were led to believe that homicide detectives were called in soon after William disappeared. so why reiterate it now?

I could well be wrong and others have followed this way more closely than me, but I thought it was the sex crimes squad that was brought in early. I remember that striking me as strange at the time.

Homicide were brought in early, what they are saying now, IMO is they are now leading the investigation instead of Fehon

I hope they find him

Homicide leading with the task force still operational?

Hi, I've read all of your comments and Im happily now able to contribute to the discussion after finally getting my registration sorted thanks to admin. Is it possible that this latest report is a surveillance tactic?
