Jury hears murderer's tragic past:
KINGMAN - Witnesses testifying during the sentencing phase in the capital case against Brad Nelson painted a stark picture of his upbringing during proceedings Thursday.
(snip)
During her interview with James Belanger, one of two lawyers representing Nelson, Alexander spoke about the difficult upbringing that she and her two brothers faced. But it was Fugere's testimony that painted an ugly picture of neglect and sexual abuse during Nelson's childhood.

"It was the worst case I ever had in more than 25 years," she said.

Nelson was born in Maine in July of 1970. His father, Paul Nelson, suffered an aneurysm when Paul was 5 and had limited cognitive abilities for the remainder of his life.

Brad Nelson's mother, Karen Nelson, was one of four children described by her parents as "the only failure in the family," according to Belanger.

Nelson and his siblings were placed in an orphanage when he was an infant after both his parents contracted hepatitis. Fugere said he was left there for 11 months.

From the article above:
"The mitigation phase of sentencing will continue today with testimony from a mental health expert. The defense expects to wrap up testimony and turn the case back to the jury by this afternoon.

The jury then will have to decide between sentencing Nelson to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The jury is the same panel of 11 women and 1 man who convicted Nelson Nov. 19 of first-degree murder."

Wonder if they will feel sorry for his arse!

A little more than 5 years after he was sentenced to death for the 2006 killing of his niece, a Golden Valley man has asked for a date with the executioner.

Brad Lee Nelson, 44, has fired his attorneys and seeks to put an end to any future appeals of his death sentence, which was handed down in December of 2009 and confirmed upon appeal in 2012.
