Thinking of Brian. I think it's highly likely he's alive, wandering around somewhere out there.

I'm going to bring this one back up, just in case there is anything new that I'm not seeing.

I just took the link to this thread out of my signature the other day after so many years of leaving it there as my current case of special interest.... and here he's popped up again. I'm going to add it back in. I think of Brian often.. when I say my prayers I have him in my list of special people I ask to be found soon, along with Kyron Horman and Lauren Spierer. Those three will be on my mind and in my heart until they're home.

Brian, please just contact law enforcement, tell them who you are and that you're alive and voluntarily missing. They'll tell everyone else and everyone will leave you alone. Just let us know you're okay.

Does anyone else think Brian was suffering from schizophrenia?

Reasons supporting schizophrenia:
1. Sitting on the shoulder of the highway with his back toward traffic
2. Fastidiously cleaning local skate park
3. Praying naked in a field, twice
4. Recent 'obsession' with Christianity

Reasons against schizophrenia:
1. Doesn't it start a bit earlier than 25 [in men]?
2. No reports of mental illness

I don't think so, personally. His odd behavior sounds more like post concussion syndrome to me. http://calder.med.miami.edu/pointis/tbiprov/NEUROPSYCHOLOGY/psych1.html

Repeated mild brain injuries that occur over an extended period of time, such as months or years, can result in cumulative neurologic and cognitive deficits.

ETA: There is quite a bit of material via web search which discusses connections between brain injuries and becoming religous. Very interesting, but controvercial I'm sure.

I think about Brian often too. I had high hopes when I saw his thread bumped up. I hope he shows up safe and sound soon.

Where are you Brian?

I hadn't come across this particular link before - http://bmxunion.com/interview/brian-histand-interview/

He sure did get injuries a lot.. no wonder it's thought that a concussion either wouldn't be a big deal, or if it was he'd know it and go get it checked. He mentions a separated shoulder, a punctured leg, a slip on ice.. all just in passing like no big deal in this interview.

such a dynamic spirit. I've always hoped Brian would turn up sooner than later and laugh at everyone for getting all worried. *sigh*

ETA - as his friend mentioned already earlier in the thread, Brian says in the interview that he doesn't ride trails anymore and hasn't for years. So any speculation about that would be unfounded IMO. He does also mention wanting to go to Australia but I suppose without a passport (and therefore a paper trail) that is beyond unlikely..

ETA a quote from the interview:

"Q: I feel like you know how to party. What makes for a good night out for you? What’s the choice drink and/or smoke?

A: All it takes is a case of water."

Langhorne... I've stayed there overnight twice in the past couple of years, most recently a few months ago. I had no idea that was where he was from but interestingly I did spend my time there thinking about missing persons cases and wondering what it was about the area that was prompting that line of thought. It will be such a great day when Brian comes home.

This might be a bit of a stretch. There is a homeless person who i see from time to time that looks dead on like this guy. I am from Sacramento California though, so it is a bit far from AZ. Next time i see him i will try to talk to him or get his picture

Brian's bike was found with or near his car along with his wallet and keys.
It is apparently (according to his friends and family) very out of character for him to leave his beloved BMX bike behind. Source: http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/22449638/2013/05/29/missing-brian-histand

Also, they have the exact location his car and other belongings were found, but I'm no good at making maps on my iPad. If you google "Brian Histand" you will find a good amount of detail.

BBM above, this makes me wonder if there's any chance Brian crossed paths with Bryan Patrick Miller...

Just reading this because I saw it linked in the Bryan Patrick Miller thread....after catching up on things it makes me wonder if he went on some spiritual quest. I recently watched a finding Jesus episode and they discussed Jesus going into the desert and there are many examples of people heading into nature for spiritual purposes. If he left into the desert on foot ANYTHING could have happened. He could still be out there, alive or deceased. Hopefully the fact that he was a people person would keep him coming back into society for human contact, however, I have also seen people who've become very religious withdraw from society because they feel like they begin to see too many societal ills like consumption/greed/vanity. This is another case where I feel that a big social media push like was done with grateful doe could possibly bring some more clues about! Prayers for his safety and hoping if he is out there and able that he would reach out and let someone know he is okay.

I get where you are coming from Dogface...

Occam's Razor.

But leave no stone unturned.

Where in Sacramento have you seen the man who looks like or is Brian? How long have you seen him around? I hope this is the break this case needs!

Brian's case is actually why I came to WS. He can shred. No doubt. I saw a homeless man in downtown (midtown) Sacramento that was aimlessly walking up and down in front of a store and he looked just like Brian, plus 40 to 50 pounds. That's why I didn't call it in, I figure if he's been traveling, he's lost weight, not gained it. JMO.

It looks like you're not the only one....

Oh wow somehow I didn't see pepperp say he saw someone in Sacramento too. Definitely need to find this guy and see if it is him! And someone who was at that level of athleticism may gain weight if they were to stop.

Part of me thinks with long hair, could BPM have initially seen him and maybe thought he was a woman at first? (I mean no offense with that, but my ex had long hair and was much taller and a few times a ma'am or "ladies" slipped from people who weren't really paying attention) then I think even if he was approached by BPM he was far more athletic, so he would have had to be taken by surprise. I am going to work on tiger lady social media push this week, and maybe by Thursday or Friday I can start one for Brian.

Pepper's post was on June 3, 2014. Don's was today, April 20, 2015. I think the family should know this. Two different years, two different posters both placing him in Sacramento in essentially the same "situation." Putting his photo on Sacramento-oriented Facebook pages and talking to the media in Sacramento might fetch other sightings and/or leads.

I really believe this is an avenue worth pursuing. It seems the strongest lead thus far?

I agree, its a promising lead that definitely needs to be pursued, even LE should be notified that possible sightings of a missing person are happening in that area. They could at least talk to him, make sure he is ok and let family know if he is voluntarily missing. From what I have seen, often if someone doesn't want to be found, cops will speak to them and say they do not wish to be contacted.
