I saw the red truck parked in front of Johny's Bar & Grill but in what context was 'Jason' mentioned? I heard the interviewee state that the renter John drives the blue truck.

That's what I heard and that he was flying around to see what was going on, which I'm assuming the guy was referring to when the police were searching? Not quite sure on that part. The red truck was still sitting there during the interview, and they stated "Jason" drives a red truck.

it's on Serenity Sands road but the villa they showed in the video definitely looks like Whispering Pines

ETA - not identical though! so I'm not sure either!

I feel sure you are correct! I just jumped on the "Serenity Sands" street name.

This articles states Drew's Mom was advised by Belize police that 2 suspects had been detained. When I watched Hazel's video, the news person seemed to indicate that one suspect had been released? That was the impression I got?...and that they currently had one suspect in for questioning, did anyone else understand it that way?

I don't see it mentioned here unless I missed it, but I read that 2 people were detained in the murders, is that true?? Anyone?

they said an autopsy was done on site ... I'm thinking their autopsy is very different than what we're used to

I found this strange:

http://www.7newsbelize.com/index.php#story1
A memorial service for Francesca Matus - who lived in Corozal for 4 years - will be held on Thursday in Corozal Town. Their families were expected to arrive today. To accommodate them, police kept the bodies on site as they were found so that the families could see them. Drew Thomas De Voursey had been in Belize for about 6 months, and reportedly did own land here. Their cell phones were not found and the battery had been stolen from the vehicle.

Surely had the bodies been autopsied, they would no longer be as they were found - if a proper autopsy had been done anyway.

LOL

that would be bizarre!

There was a J McA who was in all kinds of trouble in Belize in 2012. Fled to US. Uhmmmm surely can't be him.

Better if I just sit on my hands.

The local interviewed in the video was asked if he'd seen "Mr John" since they'd disappeared and he said "yes", that he was "helping the white guys" and he'd rented a plane and was flying all around to "see what was going on." It's very possible, if true, that he was part of the ex-pat search teams who had been looking for them by land and air.

Nah, I don't think John McA would go any near Belize again! Didn't he fake a heart attack to avoid being sent back there to face charges?

yes and the police said he hadn't been seen for a few days ... so odd that he would be part of a search effort and then not be around

if my landlord were missing, I think I'd make myself readily available to the family and police

I don't think he'd be a "tenant" no matter where he lived. :)

I'm reading the Coroner's Act for Belize, written in 2000. On page 9 and 10, points #9 and #10.1, it does indicate that in the case of a death and the Coroner can't be reached at that time, the Police can direct and arrange for a "duly qualified medical practictioner" to perfom a Post Mortem on the body, where it was found lying.

Then in 10.3 (still page 10) it indicates that if a cause of death can't be ascertained by the above on-site Post Mortem, then dissection of the body would be performed to help determine cause, etc.

Tho, that being said......after 5 days dead in the heat, with advanced decomp, I don't understand how any medical practitioner could conclusively determine a body in that state had succumbed due to strangulation. Tho..I did read in one of the MSM articles that an autopsy had been scheduled for Tues morning. So perhaps a cursory autopsy was done on-site, as per above....then a more indepth examination was done the next morning?

No idea why there was mention of a "red" truck or the name "Jason." In the video, the local Belize man ("Handyman Jamie") refers to "Mr John's BLUE truck" - the same blue truck which you can see in the video, still parked at Francesca's home. And someone above had asked if maybe this tenant who lived in the lower unit was a local or an ex-pat, the newsperson mentioned the tenant in the lower unit was an "ex-pat":

I don't place much importance on the initial police statements, they may have had to say something to the news media but didn't want to reveal anything about their real investigation. It's pretty standard in police work, to avoid tipping off their prime suspects.

I wonder if friends of the deceased have strong suspicions and have been working with police.

The mention of a tenant John reminds me of the disappearance of Monique Patenaude and her husband, killed by their hostile Washington state neighbour John for no particular reason except resentment and hatred. Their bodies and cars were also hidden separately.

Complete speculation, imo.
For that matter, both Francesca and Drew are very attractive and apparently dynamic people, it would not be hard to imagine that new romance causing some to feel murderously resentful and jealous.

Canadian Suspect in Double Murder Will be Charged For Burglary Tomorrow
posted (May 3, 2017)

First, we can confirm that the single male suspect who police had detained is a Canadian.

And, second, he will be charged tomorrow. But it's not a murder charge - in fact, it's not for any crime in Corozal. This suspect will be taken to Placencia where he will be charged for an unrelated burglary.

We're still working on getting details on that alleged crime, but after he is arraigned on that charge, he will then be taken back to Corozal where he will be questioned further on the murder of 52 year old Canadian Francesca Matus and 36 year old American Drew Thomas De Voursey. As we understand it so far, he is not cooperating with police.

Sketchy information to 7News suggests that the couple may have been targeted for murder by persons familiar to them, possibly in a land dispute. Police believe that more than one person was involved in the murder.

A post mortem determined that they were both strangled and then taken to a remote sugar road in Chan Chen where the killer or killers dumped their bodies. A cane farmer who was about to burn the field found them on Monday evening in an advanced state of decomposition. Francesca's vehicle, a 2003 Isuzu Rodeo was found 6 miles away in Paraiso village.

Something isn't sitting right with me about this case. I get the feeling that there is going to be some "dirty laundry" from all parties uncovered by the time this case is solved. This crime seems more like a gangland hit than anything else. We shall see.

rbbm.
Just a thought, but could that just be a colloquialism for money invested in the bar?
speculation

I kind of doubt it and suspect that if either one of them was part owner of the bar, we would have heard about it.

No, the video showed a blue truck and the local being interviewed said lower tenant's name was "John."

Lower tenant ... did I read that there was a tenant "living in the basement"?

I highly doubt that there are basements in a sea level, tropical home in an impoverished country - so if anyone said that someone was living in the basement, it must be a mistake.
