1998 White Isuzu Found - Cane Field in Paraiso Village. The
Isuzu was last seen being driven by Matus on Tuesday, April 25th, at 11 pm, with DeVoursney a passenger. The vehicle was found inside a cane field in Paraiso Village - two villages from where the couple lived in the Serenity Sands Community of Consejo Village. The vehicle had various things damaged, a flat tire and the battery removed. The truck was located 15 KM away from Scotty's Bar.

The Bodies of Francesca and Drew Found.Their bodies were found duct taped on their (right only?) wrists, Drew partially on top of Francesca, in a badly decomposed state. They were found by Caneros (cane farmers) working in the Chan Chen Village. They would make the gruesome find within a cane field about a mile down a feeder road just before five p.m.

A somewhat different account of who found them:

Local media in Belize says the bodies were found in the country’s Corozal district, near the Mexican border, at 5 p.m. local time.
Breaking Belize News reported on its online site that the bodies were found in the area by a search party.

Thank you. I didn't know that. So the sugar cane was not going to be burned, but instead the stalks remaining from the harvest. How many sugar cane crops can be harvested per year in Belize, and are there regular harvest days ... like Canadian Thanksgiving?

The sugar cane field is burned ahead of the harvest. Pickers go into the blackened, smoking fields to harvest the canes that remain standing after the leaves are burned off - very tough, hot and dirty work often done by seasonal workers from Nicaragua. Since this field was slated for burning, then the fully mature sugar cane plants were still standing, and would provide a good screen for the nefarious activities that took place in the field.

Canadian detained in death of woman in Belize

It kinda bugged me what is the need for "Canadain"

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/worl...eath-of-woman-in-belize/ar-BBAKOhr?li=BBnb7Kz

I feel sorry for the people of Belize in that they are stuck with a trial for a Canadian man who murdered a Canadian woman and an American man. None of this trial is about their own nationals. Now it ties up their courts, their prison, and their legal budgets. How certain can we be that there will be a full investigation and a fair trial? Is there a chance that the attitude might be to let the foreigners go ahead and kill each other?

I wish that Belize could send the bill to Canada and the US. It would make me more confident that justice will be served. It might also discourage the common practice of murdering one's spouse while on holiday in a third world country.

Belize used to be a popular and much safer place to retire for Americans and Canadians.

Now I see that it is listed as one of the most dangerous places with only a 4% arrest rate!

I would like more info.....motive/etc.....I have a feeling that Belize has a lot to gain by pinning this on a Canadian....not saying he didn't do it......but he hasn't even been arrested yet......I may eat my words....but I want more info before I jump on the bandwagon.

Hmm, similar script, different actors?, imo, speculation.

Mar 31, 2014 [h=2]U.S. expat, Dennis Walt, is murdered at his garage in Sarteneja[/h]
Corozal police are tonight trying to unravel the mysteries of a murder and a disappearance in Sarteneja Village at the start of the weekend. On Friday evening, the lifeless body of seventy-six year old Dennis Walt, an ex-pat who had been living in Belize for almost two decades
Authorities are also investigating the disappearance of Walt’s neighbor, whose sailing boat was discovered capsized in the area of Consejo Shores. While no connections have been made between the two incidents, the murder of Dennis Walt remains a cold case since police have no suspects in custody, nor have they been able to locate his missing neighbor.
“I understand that his neighbor who lives adjacent to his property has also been reported missing. Can you firstly confirm this and secondly if there is any connection between the two,..

Warning - This Map is NOT to scale for exact locations - rough estimate only. You can see the Google Earth Satelite images, and it will be obvious that there are many places along the way that the vehicle and the bodies could have been left.

I have been unable to pinpoint the "Paraiso" Village, that was 2 villages over from the Consejo Village where they lived. I am assuming that the Paraso location where the Isuzu was found is somewhere in the middle of these 3 points. It was noted that it was a 15 KM distance from Scotty's Bar to the vehicle recovery location.

Please advise any corrections needed, or if you have anything to add, I will gladly do another.

ABC news journalist Anne Swaney murdered in Belize in 2016.

From article "The Belize murder rate is third highest in the world - more than twice the homicide rate of Chicago and higher than any U.S. city"

"But our colleague wasn't the only American killed recently in Belize. In the very same district where Anne was murdered, northern Indiana native Paul Signorino and an American friend were killed in a machete and gun attack last May."

"Last fall, a man from Washington D.C was stabbed to death in his seaside hotel room; another U.S. national was attacked and killed on his farm; and a Canadian film producer was stabbed in the doorway of the home where he was staying."

Can we find any cases where an expat Canadian or American was killed and a Belize national was arrested, charged and convicted? I don't see much of a deterrent to locals regarding crime against tourists or retired expats.

In other news, the Toronto Star is reporting that JD has been released. There seems to be some confusion about this.

https://www.thestar.com/news/crime/...stioned-in-belize-death-of-toronto-woman.html

I don't see JD being responsible for these murders at this time unless he has an unrequited love for FM and decided to get revenge since he can't have her? I can't see any other motive for him. :waitasec:

If anyone might have a problem with people buying up and working to develop waterfront property in Belize, I'd think it would be a local who may be put out in some way....just saying.

Francesca has a Facebook friend with that name. And someone with that name commented on a Belizian lawyer's site about the good service he received - the office appears to specialize in land disputes!

And following the bread crumbs to LinkedIn, man of same name from Toronto has this on his page: Commercial and High End Residential Construction, Specializing in Energy saving Green technologies
From my admittedly limited familiarity with home contactors/builders, if they've been successful in business and are in their 50s, they would never rent the lower portion of someone else's home, it's a status thing.

Hmmm....def some confusion over this.....because today he was named and Toronto Sun reports that he will be charged....not sure what to believe....

I agree about the motive though....

And has anyone elaborated on the "threats" FM was supposed to have received? So much missing (and bad) info coming out of Belize....

From Matthiew Klinck thread.

Brandon Anderson

The adult, Brandon Anderson, was an acquaintance who had known Klinck for about two years, Reyes said. Both accused are Belizean.

Police also seized an amount of cash during the search of a house and believe that robbery was motive for the killing. Klinck was trying to buy land in Belize, but police can’t say if the land deal was motive for the killing.

Ironically, one of the last productions he was working on, was about FBI investigating crime in Belize.

According to the Paraiso Village Facebook page, it is located where I've placed the red dot.

[h=1]Murder mystery deepens in Belize: Former Marine and his girlfriend were NOT robbed when they were strangled and bound in shocking murder as police reveal their wallets were on their corpses[/h]
DeVoursney's family is preparing to cremate his remains in Belize and bury them in Nashville National Cemetery in Tennessee, near where he grew up and graduated from high school, said his mother, Char.

DeVoursney enlisted in the US military after the 9/11 terror attacks and served two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
His mother said he was overcoming post-traumatic stress disorder from his time abroad.
She added that she was heartened to learn from the US Embassy in Belize that the FBI are assisting with the investigation. The FBI had no comment.

Didn't follow the MK case but from the news link it appears that police also considered robbery as the motive but nothing was taken from his home?

Is there a lot of gang "turf" wars going on in the country? These all seem more like gang hits. LE not too willing to deal with actual gangs and gang members in these murders?

That looks about right ... similar locations as the map that I posted when the bodies were found.

Since everything is within a few miles of each other ... car, bodies, restaurant ... I don't think the locations help much in solving this.

I posted earlier about him but you could google Shaylon Santos - he was arrested and charged for murdering 2 Americans in 2015 and was back out on the street this year to murder again - this time a teenage girl...
