Yeah. A useful way to see it is if she'd accidentally shot herself in the face. Who would we blame for that? Imagine it happening in the US? Imagine it being your daughter, drunk and incapable of giving consent, handed a weapon, and possibly supplied with cocaine to get her in the state she was in, by a drunk and high 300lb cop? Imagine the NYPD knew he was drunk and depressed, and hanging around with people who'd killed their neighbours, and decided administratively Jemmott was good to go with his weapon? Although we don't yet know, this could very well be the scenario. No, the BPD is going to have to fork out a large amount in compensation to the family, but guess what? It'll be reduced by half or more because (assuming a scenario like above) Jemmott will be considered largely culpable himself. Hartin's lawyers should definitely be stressing now drunk she was, suggesting the cop supplied the cocaine, how she was unable to consent and encouraging her to plead Not Guilty. That way, by the way, there'll be a full trial which brings all of this out. Otherwise, it'll be covered up. The whole BPD needs sacked at the top (why in God's name is Jemmott's police-officer sister allowed to put out statements against Hartin when it's sub-judice?) the whole force needs fixed from top to bottom. Media's all about a young blonde, a capable billionaire and his useless son, when it should be about the gross culpability of the Belizean Police Department.

I am certain these things vary by jurisdiction, but the State Troopers who socialize with the Laughings do not even unclip the service holster unless there is a threat. Protocol.

Now if a group of us are at the range -- they are crack shots & good coaches.

Mr. Jemmott handed over his service revolver? Mr. Jemmott was disarmed by a much smaller person with no military or LE background?

Was Mr. Jemmott in uniform?

Agree that this is difficult to discuss in a victim-friendly way, but was Mr. Jemmott performing his job duties appropriately while in uniform?

Yes, interesting questions. At present, we do not know whether Hartin is wholly a victim, or only partially one. There seems to be consensus, including with the Belizean DPP, that Jemmott handed Hartin his weapon and passed her rounds to put into the chamber. Also that Jemmott had been very drunk shortly beforehand, and that cocaine was found at the scene. It is far from clear that Hartin was sober enough to consent to any of this.

Well stated!
How the law works is someone is charged (as Hartin has been) and they either plead guilty or there's a trial. There's been neither yet, so at this stage Hartin is at least as much a victim as Jemmott. From what is already known, however, the culpability of the Belizean Police Department appears overwhelming.

After appearing at the San Pedro Magistrate Court for her Common Assault and Possession of a Controlled Drug hearing on Wednesday, August 11th, Jasmine Hartin was scheduled to return tomorrow for her Manslaughter by Negligence charge over the shooting death of Police Superintendent Henry Jemmott. That court hearing, a far most serious matter, has been adjourned and will now take place along with the Common Assault charge on October 5th, 2021, when full disclosure of the cases is to be provided to the court. HUNTER: Canadian socialite Jasmin Hartin abandoned and fearful | Toronto Sun
''Battling billionaires is not for the faint of heart.

Yet, that is exactly where Canadian socialite Jasmine Hartin finds herself. In a foreign country, separated from her two children, abandoned by almost everyone and facing years in jail. She is very much alone.

This likely isn’t the fate the 32-year-old native of small town eastern Ontario envisioned. Only her mother, Candice Castiglione, remains standing by her side.''

“Everyone is against her and it’s really heartbreaking,” one relative told me on condition of anonymity. “Even some of her family are against her now.”

“Her mom is still in Belize and her brother and sister support her but she’s devastated not seeing her children,” her relative said. “They are out of the country. There is a lot more to this story.”

''Before Hartin met Andrew Ashcroft she had been married to a doctor. When the marriage imploded she moved to Belize where she worked as a real estate agent with her brother.''

“Jasmine was totally controlled by the Ashcrofts … everything she did. Both father and son. And then she rebelled,” her relative said.''

Jasmine Hartin case: What happened on the pier?
hartin-01.jpg

CBS News
A wealthy socialite and a senior police official end up on a moonlit pier in paradise. Then a single fatal shot rings out. Locals called it the crime of the young decade, but what happened?
''Some three days after Jemmott rescued Hartin from the party, it was Jasmine's turn to help her friend. She says she received a text message from Henry asking to stay at the Grand Colony for a couple days and "just blow off some steam." Jemmott checked into the resort Wednesday, May 26.''

''With so much riding on Hartin's account of Henry Jemmott's shooting, "48 Hours" decided to consult an expert opinion about whether her story lines up. David Katz is a former DEA agent, and a veteran firearms instructor who taught at the FBI/DEA Academy in Quantico. After Katz was shown portions of Hartin's interview, he conceded that "it's a troubling story from so many aspects, starting with … why she's practicing … in the dark?" However, Katz says that Hartin's description of where her hand was when the gun went off leads him to believe it, "absolutely," could have been an accidental shooting. Prosecutors have not released what forensics, ballistics or other tests authorities have conducted.''

''Hartin's trial date hasn't been set yet.

Under Belizean law, she could get as much as five years for negligent manslaughter, but also as little as a fine without any jail time.''

''Canadian socialite Jasmine Hartin made her latest court appearance in Belize yesterday where she is charged with manslaughter by negligence for the death of senior police officer Henry Jemmott along with two other criminal charges.

Hartin, 32, a mother of two, only received partial disclosure in the matter due to new developments in the investigation.

However, she received full disclosure for her two other matters, which include common assault and the possession of a controlled drug.

Hartin, who is on bail, returns to court on December 9 when she is expected to receive additional documents. ''

''Cops in Kingston say that the socialite’s sisters, Jacinta Hartin, 35, and Tamara Hartin, 45, both of Kingston, have both been charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and breach of an undertaking.

Jacinta was also charged on Sept. 17 as part of an ongoing cocaine trafficking investigation by Kingston Police. The charges stem from the search of a residence on Bishop Street where crack cocaine, powder cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, MDMA, Adderall pills and evidence of drug trafficking were found, cops say.''

"Socialite Jasmine Hartin is arrested AGAIN for 'ordering a hit on the Belize police commissioner and plotting to assassinate the magistrate overseeing her child custody battle"

June 13, 2022 -- <<Andrew Ashcroft, the former partner of accused cop killer, Jasmine Hartin, is leaving Belize and taking their children with him. In a rare press statement today. Ashcroft writes that he and his twin children will now live in Turks and Caicos where he claims to have developed a similar hotel. He says that he will visit Belize from time to time. As for Hartin, he says (quote) I hold no ill will or malice towards Jasmine and wish her well with the court proceedings in which she is facing charges of manslaughter, cocaine possession and common assault.” (end of quote) And that trial was expected to commence today. That, however, did not happen and her attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley gave Love News a brief update.

Richard “Dickie” Bradley, Attorney: “She’ll be arraigned as soon as the court system allows for arraignment. Ms.Hartin will go through the procedure that is required by the court and she will be arraigned in the Supreme Court in a few days.”

In the release, Ashcroft says that he gifted Jasmine 10% of the issued share capital of the holding company of The Belize Alaia Hotel. He says that he intends to obtain an independent valuation for these shares and to provide her with their fair value. >>
