"I forgot to mention (type) that Stores Equipment was located on 15th Street downtown Denver. Their original Headquarters building was located down the street in the building that the Colorado Constitution was written. That building burned in the late seventies or early 80s. The facade was propped up with steel girders for several years. I think since no one could come up with the money to repair (rebuild) it they finally tore it down.

All of these sites concerning restaurant suppliers were located in Denver or the Metro area. the one bought by Kraft is now part of another national supplier chain that is 2nd behind Sysco.
They make deliveries here in Savannah ,but I cannot, for the life of me, remember their name. This company bought suppliers all across the country and had a lot of trouble merging their operating systems into a cohesive whole.

I remember Veniors(sic) Ginger Ale and it is(was) sold in Denver."

Does it seem to all that things may be coming together for BK?

I hope so.

Some info on the ginger ale:
[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernors[/ame]

Of interest if the availability section, where it is stated that it was not distributed nationally until the late 80's; before that it was available only in Michigan, Toledo, Cincinnati and Buffalo....

Is the other company Aramark? In referring to Kraft, does he mean Kraft foods, or Kraft papers? I am searching the history of Kraft foods, and did not see a food service aquisition, but I will dig deeper...

There are some lists of Burger Chef locations online, some include names and pictures with names of former managers, district managers and employees. I think it is worth compiling a list of BC sites, and any former employees we can find and get Mr. Kyles info to them.

Newbie here! I live in Indy, and would be pleased to help out however I can. I've looked up a few things that were mentioned on the various threads:

Sysco - Indy http://www.syscoindy.com/

Burger Chef - Indy http://www.lostindiana.net/Lost_Indiana/Lost_Indiana__Burger_Chef.html

Burger Chefs - Indiana http://www.thebawdycloister.com/burger_chef_locations/indiana/

Wow good stuff, should we send Don, Jr. a letter asking him if he remember's Benjaman?
Also, the boards could be some help?

WELCOME Wadahoot!!!!!! We love new energy here-as a local, how has the media been on Mr. Kyle? Beyond that, are there any local groups of former occupants of the Soldiers and Sailors home that meet? Or any resources that show pictures of them????

Wadahoot:
Welcome to WS.
You came on board bringing a nice gift clue indeed.
Thank you.

Interesting read on that Burger Chef article, LostIndiana.
I hope Benjaman reads that and let's us know what he thinks.

Thanks for the kind welcome, both of you!

Honestly, no. There is very little coverage here in Indy. I found a link to one article in the city paper http://tinyurl.com/yjugxs6. I checked all 4 TV news station's websites, and a search turns up nothing (however, I'm sure they must purge their news listings fairly often).

I need to ask for clarification on the other question, please. I understood that Benjaman (may I call him Benjaman, as opposed to Mr. Kyle?) had memories of the Soldier and Sailor's Monument, which is the 'obelisk' (for lack of a better word) at the center of the city. Here are some photos http://tinyurl.com/yjbgvac (please scroll down, past the Canal art!) It is pretty memorable, as the major downtown street intersect here, thus the nick-name for Indy "The Circle City" and "Crossroads of America" (a number of major interstates also converge here (I-465, I-65, I-69, I-74, I-70). There are often vendors, street musicians, etc. out on the circle. Also, during the holidays, since 1962, the local Electrician's Union have provided and hung Christmas lights, making the Monument the "World's Largest Christmas Tree." (go ahead, take a peek - it's really pretty! LOL! http://tinyurl.com/yfkplzw ) ANY kid would remember the 'cottages' set up to sell GingerBread Men, the carriage rides with the horses decked out in holiday finery, etc.

Now, on the other-hand, the Soldier's and Sailor's Home is a whole different ball of wax. It is/was a foster care-type home for children of military families that were orphaned (early in its history) and later for children that were 'problem' or 'at-risk' kids http://www.imcpl.org/cgi-bin/irnfull.pl?MAIN0484AA It is in Eastern Indiana in Knightstown.

Please let me know what else I can do. I'm new at this, and very willing to help, but need guidance :waitasec:

Oh, and one more thing, please. I saw the information and the original posting about Benjaman being William Albert “Spike” Keathley. I can't seem to find in the various threads what ever came of that possibility. http://tinyurl.com/yk4k5a8 On one thread, that name was on a list of disproven matches, but it didn't really explain why, as most of the others did. Thanks!

Could Benjaman have been an orphan at the Soldier's and Sailor's home at one time? Maybe that's why he hasn't been reported missing if he has no family.

William Albert 'Spike' Keathley:
An obituary was found for him.
IMO: Only one person on the internet was convinced that BK was Spike.
He also posted that he went to Spike's relative's house and although that person told him Spike had died, he chose not to believe it.

I am beginning to lean in this direction. When Benjaman mentioned eating his oatmeal porridge, when I google this type of food, one web site that did pop up, though I didn't read it, was about orphans being fed these types of foods.

Ok. I was thinking. This might have already been discussed but could BK know about restaurant products because he could of been driving a delivery truck driver or semi driver? He could of been robbed and beaten and left for dead and his truck was stolen.

The home, as far as I can tell, closed in May of this year for it's previous mission and will now be a home (of sorts) though the Indiana National Guard.

Apparently, some people tried to keep it open, but this article http://www.in.gov/portal/news_events/43232.htm says that the Leglislative Session tabled the idea.

The Indiana State Archives have a number of historical documents, some of which fall during the time that Benjaman may have lived there (if the comments he made were NOT aimed at the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument in Indianapolis (see my earlier posting today, explaining the difference in the two). This link shows the documents available http://www.in.gov/icpr/2554.htm

Unlikely. His cataracts made him legally blind.

Welcome to WS!

BK's cataracts have been discussed a lot.
In the beginning, it was said the cataracts happened from staring into the sun.
There was documentation found on line that this could have happened.
Probably in the very first threads.
