The Central Question in the Bill Cosby Criminal Case

Did Bill Cosby’s grandpa sweater make you feel bad for him? Why this con didn’t work.

The sweater didn't work for me. He looked like the cranky old neighbor man who yells a lot and never showers, the one you cross the street to avoid.

Did it work for anyone?

May I say with gratitude Donjeta that I read your posts whenever I want to see what's current on this topic.

Thank you so much for the amount of time and effort you generously share with this information. I know I am not the only one who appreciates you!

I am so grateful for all of the posters on this thread as you all show a genuine concern regarding violence against women.

You took the words from my head. Donjeta and others make this thread and case have a man face. A face of 50+ women we all know and respect.

It sure was a goofy looking sweater. At first I thought those black squares on front were tape to hold a microphone or something. Then someone told me they were the sweater's fasteners lol.

Or course I think the whole thing was overdone, and I'd bet slick Monique picked out that sweater for him.

Can someone give me a Cliff Notes version of Whoopi Goldberg's reaction?

The clip of her was on Yahoo feed, but I didn't want to click, considering her previous commentary.

Here is poor old doddering Bill walking a tightrope (tape on the ground) carrying Jimmy Fallon on his back (sans cane). This was in April of 2014, less than two years ago.

She said it's good because she wants to hear Cosby's side.

Speaking your truth is not lying, so "their" truth is not opposed to "the" truth. It's not instead of and it's not rather than. Two different things, but they exist together. No one is suggesting these women will get on the stand and not tell the truth.

Although you say they are not the same, I'm still not hearing nor understanding the difference in the two. Anyone?

Why not ask the OP what he/she meant by the use of "their" instead of "the"? I taught high school English and would have asked a student directly if I was unsure of vocabulary choices.

"Their truth" is their experience. Their truth is the truth as they experienced it. I respect that because it is their experience. When they speak their truth they speak the truth. I find it terribly sad that 65% of rapes are never reported to law enforcement because victims fear not being believed. #ibelieveyou

I don't really know what "OP" means. I hope it's something nice :cheerful:

I was reading Tamron Hall's (Today Show/MSNBC) bio yesterday and noticed that she attended Temple University. Wonder if she knew Bill Cosby or had any encounters with him?

ETA: From Tamron Hall's biography MSNBC website: Tamron is a native of Luling, Texas, and she holds a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from Temple University.

No need to call me out. If you'll look back up thread, you'll see that IS who I posed the question to. However, I have no control over who chooses to respond.

Original Post(er) :)

Just noticed that the "1" that I saw was your "blog entries" ;)

I had forgotten about my blog ' Kindness and Karma' - Have you ever found yourself in a particular place and time where there is an opportunity to help someone? Doesn't it feel awesome - sometimes it makes me wonder whether karma placed us there to give us the gift to help another human being.

Thank you for your reply. I see the difference. Do you have a link for that 65%? Someone (might have been you) linked a long article up thread that I believe had much different stats.

It's difficult to find statistics of unreported sexual assault under 60%.

The Department of Justice claims 65% http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/press/vnrp0610pr.cfm

The National Sexual Offender Public Website claims 70% are not reported:
https://www.nsopw.gov/en/Education/FactsStatistics

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) claims 68% of of sexual assaults are not reported:
https://rainn.org/statistics

The National Sexual Assault Hotline can be accessed through RAINN . I find this paragraph from their website very disheartening:

Why Will Only 2 Out of Every 100 Rapists Serve Time?
The majority of sexual assault are not reported to the police (an average of 68% of assaults in the last five years were not reported). Those rapists, of course, will never spend a day in prison. But even when the crime is reported, it is unlike to lead to an arrest and prosecution. Factoring in unreported rapes, only about 2% of rapists will ever serve a day in prison.

Although the stats are dismal there is always hope with public discourse and more education given to this topic at high schools, colleges and universities. I always believe in hope.

In your Post #265 you linked to an article by Dr. Ahrens, a professor of psychology. According to that article (based upon a study she had comducted) she found that 2/3 actually DO report.
