Couple accused of murdering woman and stealing baby from her womb

Brazilian police have arrested a couple after they were accused of strangling a pregnant woman to death and cutting her unborn child from her womb, according to local media.
The couple, Alex da Silva Carvalho, 18, and Joelma Queila Santana da Silva, 22, allegedly knew the 20-year-old victim and lured her to a remote area outside the city of Sao Sebastiao do Uatuma, deep in the Amazon, to carry out the murder and abduction.
The couple fled with the newborn child aboard a boat and were apprehended when they disembarked in the Brazilian city of Itapiranga.
Both suspects have given statements to police confessing to the crime.
The baby was taken to a hospital and later released into the custody of an aunt.
