Just bringing my links over from the previous page, for any new viewers.

Article from the OC Register with all the details of the case, and a couple of less than kind comments from middle daughter who appeared in the Disappeared episode.

Interview with Bob's youngest daughter, son in law's wife, where she says he went missing at 'maybe one? Noon?'

If Mr Montgomery is trying to discover what time Bob Harrod went missing, he's going to need a complete rainbow for those color-coded files he likes to keep.

Familial DNA is a technique widely used in countries such as England, but it is very controversial in the US. That's because it kind of works on the theory that if one member of a family commits a serious crime, there are likely to be other lawbreakers within the family too. Statistically, this is true.

So someone who has committed a major crime (homicide, rape etc) whose DNA has been collected from a crime scene but never matched to a name, is likely to have relatives who have - or will in future - transgress the law. If authorities are allowed to make familial or partial matches, they can track back to the suspect.

So in England, for example, a serial, violent rapist in the 80s was eventually tracked down by his nephew or someone getting a DUI 30 years later. I'll try and find a case that gives an example.

ETA: I think. I'm no DNA expert.

Here are some links to many familial DNA cases;

And here is a link to the case that stuck in my mind. It was the shoe rapist. He was eventually caught when his sister had DNA taken for a DUI, years later. he'd kept all the shoes he stole from victims.

It stuck in my mind because he'd walked into the house of a new mom with her baby and attacked her - she thought it was a neighbor coming around to congratulate her. :(

We had a case here in the greater Los Angeles area a few years back, The Grim Sleeper, who snuck in and raped women while they were asleep. Took the police years to find him, and how they did was familial DNA. His son had been arrested for something and it kicked it out that he was a partial match to the Grim Sleeper, that he was related.

I found you guys again. You can run but you can't hide. LOL I had to get a new computer and all my bookmarks are in the old one. I didn't know where to looks to find this thread.

I saw the Disappeared epi again today. It struck me once again how unconcerned JeM was that Bob was gone from the house when he got back from his "errands" and Agnes was waiting there.

Why would he NOT be? He leaves the house to run errands when Bob is there. He comes back after doing whatever, to find Agnes waiting, and being thrown off with the fact he didn't know she was going to be there that day. Bob's car is still in the driveway. They go in and he goes upstairs at Agnes' request to make sure everything is ok. He comes back down after several minutes, then proceeds for the next three hours to do his repairs. He isn't concerned? He isn't worried that a man who can't walk, a man who didn't drive anywhere is gone from the house and hasn't come back?

He doesn't looks for him, go outside in the back to look for him, go in the garage to look for him or in the playhouse to look for him, just continues with his repairs? Then 3 hours later leaves and that's it? Doesn't call his wife to say that her father wasn't there when he came back nor by the time he went to leave 3 hours later. And that's ok? Why wasn't he alarmed? Agnes was. That in itself is suspicious, especially after the friendly family-no one got mad-we were just joking around-meeting the night before.

Good questions.

I have a question about the son-in-law for those familiar with the case: which daughter was he married to? I don't believe that was stated in the show. Or if it was, then I missed it.

New to this case. While I was familiar with the basics of Bob Harrod's disappearance, the details were not known until I read all these pages. It jumps out at me that something is VERY suspicious with the SIL! His alibi, time receipt, and not concerned that Bob is not home speaks volumes.

This new detective, Larry Montgomery, sounds like he is the one to find that missing piece of the puzzle. I bet some people are getting nervous - this will be solved!

This is my opinion and thoughts!

It would be interesting to hear a family members' view of the show. Unfortunately, of the prolific social media posters, one daughter stopped posting just around when Disappeared first aired, and youngest daughter, JuM, never seems to mention Bob in her many posts at Rim of the World.

OMG. minusfour, you know about teeth and jaws. Please tell me this is fixable.

Goodness, that is a pretty badly busted jaw, but I reckon with screws and/or plates it can be repaired. (I don't reckon aesthetics would be a huge factor?) Zwei, I was just thinking of you today, a chap came in for his first check up and clean in SIX years, and I reckon he left the surgery about a kilo lighter!

In Victoria, Australia, a chap was arrested nearly two weeks ago for murdering a teenager in 1983. (Her body was found a couple of weeks after she went missing) The burden of this secret, of always waiting, must be unbearable. Imagine always wondering...

I don't think aesthetics will matter at all - he'll always be a handsome hound. Vets have been feeding him on Kangaroo meat by the way. I had no idea there were kangaroos in California, except in zoos.

If it's this case, that was truly cold. I'll have to read up and see what they've found to bring charges...
