I hope the judge keeps control over the case and the courtroom. This could turn into a circus of course. I can't put into acceptable words the outrage I feel.

A man suspected of stabbing a woman to death at a Los Angeles furniture store in a random killing was charged Friday with murder, prosecutors said.
The charge filed against 31-year-old Shawn Laval Smith includes a special allegation that he used a deadly and dangerous weapon, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said in a statement.

Brianna suffered at least 46 stab wounds, 26 of them each about five inches deep.

A new indictment was unsealed in court Monday against a transient who was already charged with the stabbing murder of UCLA graduate student Brianna Kupfer, who was attacked in January while working in a furniture store on La Brea Boulevard in Hancock Park.

The way Shawn Laval Smith killed Brianna Kupfer makes think he might be an injustice collector. Usually if someone stabbed many times like that, the killer has deep seated pent up anger.

The judge has revoked Smith's right to represent himself after a chaotic outburst in court, where he threatened the judge who is a woman. He was removed from the courtroom and might have to be restrained in a special chair for subsequent hearings.

JMO, but this is a very, very bad man. Poor Brianna...rest in peace.

He's doing everything he can to disrupt the courtroom proceedings. JMO, but this is the personification of evil. The judge and prosecutors had better be on their game to get a conviction.
He needs to be locked away in a secure cell for the rest of his life, and as soon as possible.

Nothing since the May 9th hearing. Par for the course with the endless delays. This monster is playing games with the court. Pure evil.

Trial date was supposed to be set at the May 9th hearing. And...nothing after an extensive online search.
I don't have access to court records. This is frustrating to say the least.
Why are they pandering to this monster?!

Still cannot access detailed court records, but was able to find a "next hearing date" of August 14th. I have no idea what this hearing will be about.
If we get a new D.A. in November, one who doesn't coddle to violent criminals, this process might move along a little more quickly.

There were court hearings set for August 14, then August 22nd, and now August 23 (today). My guess is he's continuing to disrupt proceedings. I have no access to further details. I'm going by an inmate search which simply gives court hearing dates.
Again, cannot imagine the pain the family is suffering.
