SMH what the heck were they thinking? Toxicology reports would not equal prison time. Something is not right. They have to be the dumbest people on the planet.
Maybe they were illegals. If so -- so what, no matter -- they still could have left that brand new US citizen at the hospital for some loving couple to have and to raise their miracle child.

I don't want to offend because I don't honestly know the answer to this question but if the baby was born with drugs in his system and they were undocumented parents what would the punishment be? Not assuming they were undocumented. Just asking an honest question.
IMO if the medical staff had suspected drugs in the baby's system, zero chance they would have left the child unattended with obvious drug users. But, stranger things have happened.

This is about as heinous of a crime I have ever heard of!!!
When we think we have heard “the worst”, someone always comes up with one many times worse!

Where were this couple from that they thought killing a child they didn’t want, right in the hospital, soon after birth, was a plan that would be a good idea?

This is a case I would question if there was mental illness and/or severe deformities in the parents. You all know that it upsets me when so many cases people will immediately attach “mental illness” as a possible motive.

Awaiting further details in this gruesome case.

Naturally, California has a parental surrender process and law. And so many people would have been overjoyed to adopt this baby (druggie parents or not).

It's the combination of ignorance and depravity that gets me, in this one. That being said, infanticide is more common in Mexico (and has been for a long time, as it was in parts of Europe hundreds of years ago).

Just saw this:
Mother, boyfriend arrested after strangling baby in hospital moments after birth, police say
Jul 21, 2019, 5:22 AM ET

The mother of a newborn and her boyfriend have been arrested after the disturbing murder of the baby soon after she gave birth at a California hospital.
Andrea Torralba, 20, and David Villa, 21, both of Oxnard, California, about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, were taken into custody on Friday afternoon after police responded to St. John’s Medical Center.
[...]
Oxnard police Sgt. Brandon Ordelheide told Los Angeles ABC station KABC the couple admitted under questioning that they did not want the child.
Both have been charged with assault on a child by means of force resulting in the child’s death, police said. The felony is punishable by a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
Villa is being held at Ventura County's Main Jail on $5 million bail. He is next scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on Tuesday.
Torralba is being held on $1 million bail, police said.

Anyone have access to Ventura County court site??
Wondering IF Torralba has a court hearing today too? TIA!

I'm curious about the baby's parentage. Could the "reason" this infant was killed be that it was fathered by another man?
Good call! The baby was not the boyfriend's baby:
When investigators arrived, Camacho and Villa told them they had suffocated the baby boy until he was unconscious, according to Oxnard Police Sgt. Brandon Ordelheide. Ordelheide said Camacho told investigators that she didn’t want the baby and that Villa, her boyfriend, was not the child’s father.
Oxnard woman and boyfriend are arrested on suspicion of strangling newborn

So... was the newborn strangled by the boyfriend? Why didn't the mother intervene if that was the case? I suspect we'll hear more about this. MOO.

From article above (post 34):

Camacho and Villa are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon. Oxnard police said they have requested $1-million bail for each, but Ventura County Sheriff’s records say their bail has been set at $5 million.

Looks like they both are appearing. Too late for me to correct my post...

Details emerge in newborn death as couple appear in court

“The baby was killed about 12 hours after it was born,” said Stacy Ratner, a supervising attorney in the major crimes unit of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors say his name was Diego Villa-Torralba

The DA’s Office charged the pair with murder and assault on a child causing death. The Ventura County Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Torralba Camacho, 20, and Conflict Defense Associates was appointed to represent Villa, 21.

The co-defendants did not enter a plea Tuesday. The arraignment hearing was continued to Aug. 19 at the request of their attorneys.

I'll bet if that new baby had been a new car bought by her old boyfriend and given to her, the new boyfriend wouldn't have burned that new car to the ground, or crashed it into a wall. dammit.

Holy cow, they named him? That is unfreaking believable. WHY??
Did they do a tox test on these two?

I know the birth certificate needs a name, but most hospitals let you delay it for a few hours or until it's time to take the baby home.
At least the little guy will have a name when he is buried, so maybe it's all right.
Sorry, but this case just gets to me.
