Any news on his sentencing? TIA!

This is old info, but says what happened on Sept 18.

Former Navy man to be sentenced for wife’s murder in Point Loma - Matthew Scott Sullivan will be sentenced Nov. 13 for fatally stabbing his wife in Point Loma a judge ruled Sept. 18 after he denied his motion for a new trial. Sullivan 35 was convi...

I don’t quite understand why not knowing the name of the person who bought the car that she might have had access to, why that would necessitate a new trial. However, I’m in good company. The judge didn’t understand it either.

I just read through the threads. We didn’t get a lot of info that the jury heard. I’d guess that most of the deliberation time was spent on 1st vs 2nd degree murder. I’d have leaned toward 1st degree—his plan of concealment worked for two years. And why was the knife in the bedroom?

Anyone else have thoughts on the subject you’d like to share?

Thanks for all your tedious work.:):):)
Good luck with your surgery, and a quick recovery, to see you back.

I’m glad he was found guilty, though I wish it had been of first degree murder.

One question I’ve had: why were his mother, mother’s friend, and his sister arriving on October 14 to help care for the kids? Elizabeth was killed October 13, which means the arrival of family was already in the works. To me, this family visit lends itself to more evidence of premeditation.

Thanks - everything went quite smoothly! I'm still ALIVE!! :D

Does anyone have an update yet? I'm guessing the sentencing is over by now, but I can't find anything online.

Yes - I was wondering the same - just coming up with old 2020 articles over here. In the court site it says "no pending hearings" - so he must have been sentenced on Friday.

TIA if someone finds anything! :)

So he hasn't been sentenced yet. Well, its not like he is going anywhere with no bond. He was found guilty of 2nd degree murder, but acquitted of 1st degree murder? From what I've been able to find out is that he gets a minimum of 15 years, but he can still get life.

Hi there! I remember you. Good to see you here. Well, he got sentenced today. Sixteen years is not long enough. He'll probably get out for "good behavior" in half the time. I'm grateful thought that he got caught and Elizabeth's daughters will know their mother did not run off and leave them.

16 years! First he is acquitted on 1st degree murder and then he gets 16 years. I need to look up who his attorney is. Just in case I pull some shenanigans in that locale.

During opening statements, prosecutor Jill Lindberg told jurors that Sullivan may have stabbed his wife five times after learning she was having an affair, then hid her body until he had to remove it because he was moving to the East Coast.

“He made her look like the person who had abandoned her family,” Lindberg said at Sullivan’s sentencing.

In October 2016, her decomposing body was found floating in the bay about a half-mile from the home.

Investigators later found blood under her bedroom carpet and a knife in the attic.

New post on Kay's Facebook page with a picture of the kids. Clearly she still thinks he is guilty.
