I am still wondering if these roomates signed n agreement together from knowing each other prior to or if they were "roommate matched" by the complex where they were living?
There was obvious discord going on between them but no action on the complex part apparently. My question is how complicit the complex is as to the outcome in that they had due warning there were problems?
Also, IIRC he stated in his document that his parents paid $900 for his rent. But the complex website said that was the total rent for a 2 BRM apartment. Was he subletting to these guys and pocketing the money?
JMO's.
In college these kids are considered adults. End of story. The only thing that gets communicated to parents is what the kids tell them. Dropping classes, failing classes etc., is not communicated.
The only time a "landlord" is going to communicate with parents is if their kid is violent--which he showed no previous signs of--or if rent isn't paid, and the parents co-signed the lease. In an off campus college living situation, it is possible the "rent" was paid upfront, much like housing costs for on campus dorm rooms.
Also, some schools have "guaranteed housing", meaning they will ensure you have some sort of housing. Some colleges only ensure this the 1st year.
The roommates were likely on their own so to speak, unless they tried to get their parents involved, and get them a new living situation. Given that they were guys, there was probably less rather than more communication between them and their parents.
