I have only been able to find the manifesto in one format, which does not work well with my Nook. It skips around wildly when I attempt to advance to the next page. Has anyone seen it in PDF or some other form that might work better for me? TIA

He also tried to push women of the ledge. Sounds to me like that should have considered more seriously. He wasn't even charged with anything for that incident.

Then again he ended up with the broken ankle after he was pushed in retaliation. IMO he was clever enough to insert himself in situations. Instigate an altercation and become a victim. I'm not buying Mental Illness at this point. I think he was an evil manipulative psychopath. Just bouncing off your post.

Ugh. There are people...lots of them...on his blog calling ER a hero or saying they feel sorry for HIM and how HE was abused and misunderstood his whole life.

Feeling scared for humanity right now.

i cannot remember where I read this - sorry I have been all over the place the past couple of days - but I did read that twitter and comment sections were ablaze with girls idolizing him and talking about how hot he was, etc. just like LM started getting a fan base.

crazy world we live in. lots of screwed up people out there living amongst us :/

I read the entire manifesto. He writes exactly like a friend of mine who is high functioning but with pretty severe Aspergers. In his manifesto he references the regional center several times.

Regional Centers in CA only serve people with developmental disabilities (autism, aspergers, mental retardation, etc). It is NOT easy to access their services as the need is enormous and funding is...not. In order to even be taken on as a client you have to undergo evaluation after evaluation (most of the time these are done in early childhood as RCs only take people who's disability is identified before age 18) and it takes a lot of dedication and advocating on the parent's part. They do not fund people who are "only" mentally ill, they do not fund people who are brain damaged due to an accident. Certainly a lot of their clients are dual diagnosed (both DD and MI) but in order to have an established case with an RC, it has to be because of a DD (developmental disability). And it has to have occurred before the age of 18. I am intimately aware of this system in CA and knowing it as well as I do, his references to it and receiving services from them indicate he was identified early on and that his parents sought help.

Not that this hasn't been stated in the media, but people here seem to be questioning whether or not his parents did "enough" and I thought I would throw in that info.

People who say he's "faking it" or "fooling" his parents, I assure you, he would not have received services if it was not determined that he did have a fairly significant developmental delay. That isn't to say that he doesn't have free will, that he isn't evil, that he isn't also most likely mentally ill and a sociopath, but he is most definitely not masquerading as a person with issues.

I totally agree. I don't think I'd even be that upset if I got sprayed by some random S-head with juice in a squirt gun, definitely wouldn't waste police time on that. It's scary in retrospect though, I wonder if the coffee and OJ victims have connected the dots yet. :-O
Neither reports would be taken as serious assaults but as college pranks, unfortunately.

Early today, I read an article (rag mag probably) and I believe it was a family friend saying ER had quit taking his medication. I know it is a problem with many mental illnesses or personality disorders. Patients not liking their meds, the way the meds make them feel, taking too many of one and skipping another. Add alcohol and drugs and you have a huge problem. Tweaking their doses is a huge problem. Parents, family & friends can see how on the right meds the person is "normal" again & relax some. Not taking them causes so many of these tragic endings.

In this article, family friend of his mothers says

"Astaire said that Elliot Rodger was never diagnosed with Asperger's (his family "suspected he was on the spectrum"), had no friends, and was very shy. Astaire told the Times, "He was fundamentally withdrawn. The guy on the video was much more confident. That is a guy I never met."

Just wanted to put that out there, may or may not be true. It was radar online I first read about not taking his meds.

Yet there is a link here somewhere which states he was thought to have Asperger's but never diagnosed. I would think a Family would want a diagnosis. I get some don't want labels on their kids but if they were concerned enough to seek help I would think he would have had a diagnosis. MOO

This! I also do not believe he had a mental illness.

I should really go back and find the other articles, but I am pretty mentally drained and I am about to take a break for a few hours. I do know he was prescribed a medication and he refused to take it. I also know he had Xanax (prescribed? I don't know?) and painkillers he had hoarded from his ankle surgery.

I believe it was Risperdal he refused to take

Yes, it was. My head used to be so full of negative thoughts, thoughts that others thought badly of me, it was non-stop and crippling. That drug took it all away. Thank God. I really wish ER would have tried it. History might have been different.

Sometimes when a doctor isn't sure but can clearly see the kid has developmental delays that don't fit a criteria, they will diagnose them with PDD-NOS (pervasive developmental disability-not otherwise specified) which is enough to get services.

If I was to point you to my friend (with asperger)'s blog (which I won't because he would never hurt a fly) you would be shocked at the similarities in their perseverations. My friend is highly intelligent when it comes to written communication, but you can tell immediately that something is "off". Before he landed a girlfriend it was angry post after angry post that no woman would love him, but his criteria was SO limited. Similar to ER's "blonde, hot" girl my friend was certain that the only girl he was willing to date had to be between 30-34 years old (he was 36ish at the time) and she had to have a college degree. After every mention of a girl it was always defined by this criteria. Like if he was posting, "I'm so lonely, I wish I could just meet a girl between the ages of 30-34 with a degree who would take a chance on me." I mean every.single.time he mentioned the possibility of a girlfriend he qualified it with that. Shockingly--he actually found his love connection last year and she met his very specific criteria! All I can say is--there is someone for everyone. :)

If in doubt, lie. Lie to get them help because I'm sure ER's parents saw some big huge scary red flags. If they are just acting bizarre, you see what happens. ER fooled the cops. In AZ you can petition the courts to have them held in a rehab/group home up to 180 days, if they are a danger to themselves or others. When parents call and neither behavior or proof is presented, they will just visit and leave. jmo

My friends daughter met up with a man, later found out he suffered from schizophrenia. She wasn't that interested in him but he wouldn't leave her alone. One night he came to her home and demanded to be let in (apartment complex). She opened the door, he threatened her and her children. She calls police, they take him in on a 5150, one hour later, the mental hospital released him...One and a half months later, he was found dead behind a store with a letter saying how he was going to kill the girl and her children...od'd & stabbed himself too. It's truely a nightmare. So if you have been through many scary moments with your child, lie. (hopefully, you will be forgiven by the higher ups) jmo
