I'm suspecting LE was under-informed, issues downplayed, prior to their actual Welfare Check visit with ER. JMO

I love that there are so many points of view, opinions and questions asked on this forum. I love that it is moderated, even though I myself have been targeted by the dreaded mod snippers a time or two. Just sayin....

This is gonna sound stooopid to those who are in one camp or another, but I think ER was a wide and varied mix of issues.

Mentally ill? Check.
Personality disorder? Check.
Touch of autism? Maybe.
Male chauvinist pig? You bet.
Spoiled, stuck-up, self-entitled brat? Oh yeah. Big time.
Lazy? Annoyingly so.
Immature? In the extreme.
Manipulative, lying weasel? Gosh yes.
Am I forgetting something? Probably. He was a mental, emotional and social grab bag of dysfunction.

Obviously the parents, friends, counselors and public servants in his life were not...are not...perfect. But nobody is. Elliot Rodger was an anomoly of nature IMO, and not a product of his imperfect environment. Although we can (and should) learn things from this so that one day we can hopefully change the course of future Elliot Rodgers, I see him as akin to a hurricane or earthquake. Freak of nature. Natural disaster. Human anomoly.

Forgot EXTREME NARCISIST and Racist.:twocents:

True! I thought narcisist was a personality disorder though. I am not current on my mental health lingo :)

You're right, but some people don't realize the broad brush "personality disorder" covers. :blushing:

The more I read about ER, I'm wondering if there isn't a touch of bipolar, the "highs" and "lows" in his writing, rage and peace, etc., etc. That WOULD explain the Risperidol.

...also possibly schizotypal, schizoaffective, or schizophreniform too???

Someone should have slapped this boy's "self entitlement" out of him when he was knee high to a grasshopper. Or maybe he was just born a "bad seed". His blatant manipulation and "magnificent gentleman" makes me want to :puke:
Of course he needed to be seen by an infamous TV shrink, no one else would do.
I get ER was someone's child, but so is every other murdering piece of stuff you scrape off the bottom of your shoe.

He comes off as a little "Hitler". Major "God Complex" going on there.

Has anyone corroborated ER's stories re: being hit by hot coffee or sprayed with OJ from a Supersoaker, or were these fantasies? Thanks.

I was thinking that direction......."Visions of grandeur/feelings of persecution".
Seriously, did this boy EVER see a REAL psychiatrist? Lot of therapy going on, and "life coaches" but where was the "big guns"? The guys with the degrees on the walls? Not the ol' "Dr. Phil School of TV Nut Jugglers".

In the manifesto, did he ever go off to a summer camp with the focus on an interest of his (eg computer camp, etc) or participate in sports of any kind? TIA

I remember well he wrote about the trip he took w/step-mom to Morocco, despite him absolutely not wanting to go and especially not with her - wonder why that was forced on him and why the step-mom would agree to it?

Broadly speaking early intervention, especially with the development disorders is actually much more about parent education. Helping them understand why their child is behaving in the manner they, accepting realties about prognosis, special educational placement if it can be found etcetc.Helping siblings understand etc.

I posted these earlier, however watch the difference between the way the parents respond, and what happens. It’s about trying to make the realities as least traumatic on everyone.

Again, turn up your volume and check in with what you are feeling while watching.

Intense stuff, imagine day in and day out…..

Yeah, the barf meter was through the roof for me too, through pretty much the whole thing. He was a piece of work. In retrospect, he was more accurately a piece of $#!+.

That's actually a great question! Some how I just don't think that if it did happen, the victims would have gone to the trouble of reporting it to LE, but I'm sure LE is checking their filed reports of the last 2 years.

Thanks B, I guess I just expected to hear in the news that witnesses had come forward stating in shock that they had been the victims of these incidents and there haven't been any. Just find that so weird. I would always be wondering why someone threw hot coffee on me or sprayed me with OJ. And upon hearing about the manifesto or reading it, I would contact police to verify that these things indeed happened.

In hindsight, it's easy to argue that the police should have done more. But the law is written to balance public safety against civil liberties, and when it comes to mental health, evaluations are complicated and imperfect. I don't know whether Rodger had been diagnosed with a specific disorder, but people who are seriously ill aren't always in acute stages, and even when they are, they can sometimes "present" well enough to be deemed OK.

He was 17 years old. ER claims it was a "hasty plan to change my life" by his parents because of how radical he was becoming.

Sorry for not quoting the original posts but...stupid Nook makes me work too hard for it sometimes.

Someone asked about masturbation. ER did actually indulge, according to his writings. Actualy, he was a little too descriptive about his first experience for my taste. Yuck.

Also, regading his roommates...he said in his writing that he would kill them so "they wouldn't be in the way". As someone else said, his roommates would have been targeted no matter who they were.

Oh thanks about that I hv not bn able to read all of the manifesto as on iPad it keeps jumping back to page one. Thanks for the answer so he wasn't pent up sexually, as i was very curious about that.

Thanks!

And wow! A "hasty plan to change [ER's] life" and neither of the bio parents was going to be on the trip to Morocco. Only the step-mom, who ER detested, was to be there and she probably found him impossible to control. WTH were the parents thinking? WTH was step-mom thinking? Sounds like an absolute misery plan and ER, the 17 yo little , saw to it that that's exactly what it was.

I'm still thinking one of those harsh boot-camps for boys would have been very helpful. Or ... well ... at least it couldn't have pushed him over the edge any more than he ultimately turned out. JMO
