Tragic. For something different, here are recalls for the Yukon. Two of interest:

Consequence Summary: WHEEL SEPARATION CAN RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Consequence Summary: CONSEQUENTLY, THE VALVE O-RING SEAL MAY FRACTURE. STEERING EFFORTS MAY BE SLIGHTLY INCREASED WHILE BRAKING OR PARKING. UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS, A FRACTURED SEAL MAY REQUIRE A SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT TO ACHIEVE THE SAME VEHICLE DECELERATION RATE AS PRIOR TO THE SEAT FRACTURE.

This might be so off the wall, even for me....could this couple have an off the grid survivalist camp where missing children are?

Anything seems possible with this surreal tragedy, but my speculation is that the three children were murdered, and thus the dramatic cliff event. That being said, I'm still holding out hope for the missing three. I'm praying so hard for the three missing.

First time I've read this:

Last month, another sibling, Hannah, knocked on his front door at 1:30 a.m., DeKalb said. She was covered in weeds after jumping out of her family’s second-story window. DeKalb said the teenager, who was missing some front teeth and who he thought was only 7 years old, was “rattled to the bone.”

Rattled to the bone. Shivers.

This is interesting on the back story. The kids were only in a formal school setting for 2 1/2 years total after their adoption.

Records show the Hart children enrolled in Alexandria public schools Sept. 8, 2009 — seven months after Jennifer and Sarah finalized their adoption of siblings Devonte, Jeremiah and Sierra in Harris County, Texas. The women had previously adopted siblings Markis, Abigail and Hannah from Colorado County, Texas, in September 2006.

Two and a half years after enrolling, the children left public schools. Markis was a seventh-grader at Discovery Middle School, and the other five children, who ranged from kindergarten to third grade, attended Woodland Elementary.

Scott Heckert, the principal of Woodland at the time, recalled the Harts as an insular family whose children — despite being amiable and outgoing among their peers — rarely spent time with others outside the classroom.

"They stayed under the radar and liked to be alone and away from other people," Heckert said of Jennifer and Sarah, adding the children received extra attention from teachers and faculty after the abuse allegations.

"The leave date indicates all six children left prior to the end of the school year for a homeschool setting," Jill Johnson, a spokeswoman for the school district, told The Oregonian/OregonLive in an email.

The parents of Devonte Hart removed him and his five siblings from public schools in Minnesota the day after one of his mothers resolved a child-abuse court case, The Oregonian/OregonLive has learned.

Sarah Hart reached a probation agreement April 14, 2011, a week after she pleaded guilty to physically abusing one of her daughters, who was then 6 years old.

The next day, all six of their adopted children were taken out of public schools in Alexandria, where the family lived before moving to Oregon. They would never attend public school again.

Can you please explain to me how either of these could factor into this situation? I'm missing how either might apply. Are you suggesting some kind of vehicle failure contributed to this event?

Thank you for posting this. We *do not know* what happened to cause that vehicle to go over the cliff. For all we know the accelerator got stuck and the driver panicked. Tests on the wreckage should come up with a conclusion. Until then, I'm keeping an open mind, and prefer to air on the side of the moms...that it was an accident. I'm so heartbroken for these beautiful, beautiful children.

More back story on the adoptions. For the second set of siblings, it seems that both moms were involved in the adoption from this article:

For Devonte and his siblings, path to Harts started in Texas foster care

Siblings Markis, Abigail and Hannah were adopted by the Harts in September 2006 from Colorado County, Texas, Butler said. The county seat is 70 miles west of Houston.

The Harts adopted a second set of siblings, Devonte, Jeremiah and Sierra, in February 2009 from Harris County, where Houston is located, Butler said.

In a post shared by friends on Facebook, Jennifer Hart described meeting Jeremiah and his siblings on a hot Houston day. "Sarah and I walked out to the playground at the CPS building, and without hesitation, he let go of the social worker's hand and walked right up to me. Jeremiah wrapped his tiny arms around my legs and didn't let go."

It's unclear why the children were removed from their birth families.

I'm thinking they could have all gone camping (one of the photos shows them camping). They could have left their camp set up with the three other kids on the day they went over the cliff. The left-behind kids might not have expected them back for a while, and they would be off grid: no way for them to know what was happening.

I don't know if this has been shared on this thread yet.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Me and Mr. Washington go forth with no real direction
Dreaming of the day we drive our cars into the ocean
And all the people looking on will wonder what to say
And live confused about us 'til the day
they do the same
And they see while swimming that they are free

Please read those recall summaries.

Neither suggests an accelerator got stuck.

One talks about wheel separation. The photo of the vehicle on its roof shows all tyres still on the vehicle and no evidence of wheel separation. If there was any evidence of wheel separation, this investigation by CHP would have taken a different turn.

The other recall talks about more pressure being needed during braking. This vehicle was accelerating just prior to going off the cliff.

More details on a 2008 complaint, that preceded the 2010 abuse allegations that were substantiated. It had to be Abbi or Hannah, since Sierra was not yet adopted (not till 2009).

Hart parents denied using belt to discipline child in '08, claimed she fell down stairs

PORTLAND, Ore. — Court documents obtained by KATU News say one of the adopted daughters of Sarah and Jennifer Hart told authorities her mother hit her using a belt back in 2008, while the family was living in Minnesota. When confronted, Sarah and Jennifer told authorities the girl fell down the stairs.

According to the police report, the child told investigators that her "mother had struck (her) with a belt in the arm."

The child also told investigators "Jennifer was the parent who struck (her) with the belt."

When confronted by an officer, Jennifer and Sarah said the little girl "has been going through food issues, where she'll steal other people's food at school or eat out of garbage cans or off the floor."

They also added they "didn't know how the bruise would have gotten on [the girl's] arm, but [they say] a few days prior to our interview, [she] had fallen down eight stairs in their house."

I agree I think if it was something malfunctioned on the Car or in it the police would already know and wouldn't be saying they think it was done purposely. I am curious if their are houses or anything on or around the area that this happened? I just don't understand how no one heard or seen this happen. How did the person who found them even know?

Thank you. That's kind of what I was saying in my previous post as well. So much of what's being said so far is conjecture, with much of it based upon hearsay. I am trying to remain open to other possibilities at this time.

I find it heartbreaking that after a conviction for child abuse they were able to pull all of the children out of school and have no apparent consequences. If there is any reason to limit or closely monitor homeschooling, that would be the exact scenario.

Yes, this was spoken of at length on the last thread. I don't think you have to go back very far to find the posts.

Amazing that after abuse allegations they were able to adopt yet more innocent children.
