PALMS (CBSLA) – Investigators have obtained and put out a search warrant on the home of Heidi Planck, the 39 year old mother who has been missing for almost two weeks.

Federal agents and robbery homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department went into Planck’s home with guns drawn on Friday evening, as the hunt for the missing woman continues. Sources believe that officers were under the impression that they might have been walking into a crime scene.

Reports state that the investigators are looking in every possible outlet of the home to find evidence. Photographers are on scene as well as nearly a dozen other agents, who are scouring every room, the garbage and planters around the home.

There are no indications as to what investigators were searching for in Planck’s home, but initial speculation states that this may have something to do with Planck’s business, as her employer is under a federal securities investigation for possible fraud charges.

An evidence van was on scene as recently as 11:00PM, with reports that some files had been taken into custody.

Complex still refusing search request without warrant

The plot thickens. There is very interesting information in the latest news reports.

From the CBS report, the apartment complex is still not cooperating.

"Friends and family have speculated that foul play has to be involved, especially with the odd set of circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the reluctance of the apartment complex to cooperate with investigators."

I wonder if the LAPD Missing Persons unit had even made much of an effort to obtain the video or to go into the garage. Now that the Feds are involved, along with the LAPD Elite Robbery and Homicide Div, I suspect the warrants will be forthcoming.

The question is, why doesn't the management want to cooperate. Now that we know that the company Heidi works for, Camden Capital Partners, is under a federal securities investigation, I wonder if there is any connection between the management of the condo / apartment complex and Camden Capital Partners.

Edited to add: I wonder why the news media is still not giving the name of the apartment complex -- I think they deserve the "publicity."

I am now wondering whether the couple who were taking care of the dog, actually found the dog wandering outside and took him in.
We don't know but I expect the police and the ex know by now. Maybe Heidi was never in that building. Maybe something happened in the vicinity.
Dog I believe was wearing a tag because the couple tried to reach out to the owner, but there was no response.

I was wondering the same thing. The way the news items are written, it definitely sounds like the dog was actually found on the 28th floor of the apartment building. But, could they mean that when the ex-husband traced the dog's chip, he found him with people living on the 28th floor (who had found him on the street.) I'm leaning towards the dog being found by the couple inside, on the 28th floor, simply because the friends commented that they don't know of anyone Heidi knew in that building, and because they want access to the video and garage.

“She left our son's football game early," "But she left early, and we really haven't seen or talked to her since."

"Nothing. I mean, no contact at all," Wayne said. "No contact with her work, her friends, co-workers, family. Our 10-year-old-son, his birthday is next week that we share."

“I’ve got a 10-year-old boy who’s just beside himself,” said Jim Wayne, Planck’s ex-husband.

“If you have seen anything…we need to find his mom,” said Jim Wayne, Planck’s ex-husband. “People don’t just disappear.”

“When she didn’t show up to pick Bond up on Wednesday we knew something was wrong,” “For him not to hear from his mother this long — something is seriously wrong.”

“It seems to us that everything stems from that building where her dog was found,” a friend said.

“I think something has to have happened to her, to keep her away from her son,” said Danielle Nadolny, another friend.

OMG, her poor son! Only 10 years old. So sad. This is a weird case but now I think her disappearance has to be connected to her employer's legal trouble. Maybe she knew too much and they were afraid she would flip on them in court? They need to find her car, but I'm not to hopeful. JMOO

I’m not surprised about the apartment’s management’s response. They have higher end renters that pay a lot for privacy and don’t want outsiders wandering around. They’re going to put on a show to demonstrate they can be trusted to enforce privacy.

Did the ex have direct contact with the people who took the dog in? If I were him I would have asked them to check the parking lot to see if Heidi’s car was there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if management had it towed by now if it were. What towing company services the H&F, has police searched the tower’s lot?

High end complexes like that one with stringent security measures have elevator cameras, hallway cameras and stairwell cameras all connected to a security room where someone sits and watches them. There is no way, if she was in there, that she wasn't recorded.
Also, of interest, was that she seems to let her dog drag his leash and she doesn't need to always be holding the other end. It is possible that something happened to her when he was walking free and the assailant didn't notice the dog. It seems odd to me that if this was a planned hit (due to her knowledge of her companies fraud investigation) that she would be taken and her dog left in such a specific place.
It would be a good idea to check the tenants on the 28th floor. MOO MOO MOO MOO

I wonder if they have a warrant yet for the complex? If not, why not? The way they served the warrant at her home is worrisome

Heidi Planck, 39, Reported Missing From Downey After Failing To Pick Up Son From School

The family of Heidi Planck said they last saw her 11 days ago on Oct. 17 in the 7800 block of Gardendale Street, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.

Planck’s ex-husband said Planck left their son’s football game at halftime, adding that she seemed distracted. In a bizarre turn, three hours later, in Downtown LA, her dog was found on the 28th floor of an apartment building. Planck, her silver Range Rover, her purse, her personal phone and computer, however, were all gone.

Planck’s friends said the apartment building management has refused to allow them to look in the parking garage to see if possibly her SUV is parked there. They also said apartment management won’t share building security tape with police unless they get a warrant. So far, the building’s management has not responded to a request for comment.

Friend and family suspect foul play.

“It seems to us that everything stems from that building where her dog was found,” said a friend.

“I think something has to have happened to her to keep her away from her son,” another friend said.

Planck is white, 5-feet-3 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.

She was last seen wearing jeans and a gray sweater driving a 2017 gray Range Rover with a black-and-yellow California license plate of U840X0.

I made a media thread

I’d bet almost anything that the dog was found outside the apartment complex and brought in by kind people who tried to find the owner. The Feds don’t show up, guns drawn, at location 1 when there’s any reason to believe location 2 is a better site to search. And I can assure you the Feds aren’t scared of, or concerned about, some fancy apartment’s owners getting mad at them.

Agree- I think if it was reported to LE that the dog was found on the 28th floor by itself then LE could enter the building without a warrant under CA law. It is an endangered missing person case at this point. I think this part of the story is missing some of the details.

About the information that Heidi's ex "found" Seven through his microchip. Here's how that works.

If you find a dog, you can take him to Petsmart or a vet clinic, and have the dog scanned to see if it has a microchip. Common microchip companies are Avid and HomeAgain, but there are others, and the vets office can tell by the way the number is structured which company has the chip information. You call or look the microchip company up on line, and enter the number, and then get the owner contact. If you can't reach the owner or somehow there is a problem with the information, you can enter "found" information with the company for that microchip. So when the owner does realize their pet is missing, they can call the company and get the finder's information and contact them and get the pet back using their microchip number that they've kept.

So that's very likely what happened. After Wednesday when Heidi was clearly missing, her ex contacted the microchip company to see if anyone had the dog, and yes, this couple on the 28th floor of Hope and Flowers had found the dog 3 hours after Heidi was last seen.

EDITED TO ADD: It seems her ex found a phone in her home. Maybe the finder of Seven had left a message on her phone, and that's how he found the people taking care of him.

The complex’s behavior is typical for tenants who demand privacy. Complex may be in the wrong ethically or morally, but not legally. And I doubt “shaming” the complex publicly will work. If anything, it would draw the interest of potential tenants who seek that high level of security. There could be some potential civil liabilities depending on later facts. JMO.

Interesting too, that cops approached Heidi's home with drawn pistols, but haven't gotten a warrant yet for the complex. It's appearing the others on this thread might be right - the dog was not, in fact, first located in the complex but was just cared for there after being found elsewhere, in an unrelated location.

I agree. The way it's reported is ambiguous.

If the dog was found outside and taken to the 28th floor by residents of the building, then she may not have been in it or its parking garage at all. If so, then where is her car?

I sure hope they obtain a warrant for the building soon, because (as we recently learned in the case of the man who went missing during a hotel stay in Florida) those security cameras are likely to eventually start recording new footage over old footage and any video evidence related to Heidi’s disappearance may soon be gone.

If she wasn't a resident of this high rise apartment building with it's high level of security, how did she get into the parking garage? It seems she would have needed a connection of some sort. Was someone else in the car with her?

Now, I am beginning to think she and her car were never in that building and that the only connection to the building are the kind folks who picked up her dog and took him back to the building. MOO MOO MOO
