And I don't think I have heard about all these missing young women. I know of some, Karen Mitchell disappeared in 1997 and has not been seen again.

Remember Wayne Adam Ford? He was the truck driver who brought the breast into the law enforcement center in 1998. He is in San Quentin on death row. He was convicted for killing four women. Has anybody looked at him for Jennifer's disappearance? He lived in a trailer park in Arcata.

I would like to tell people that many people do work in the area, we all aren't on welfare, but there aren't many options. Lots of trees and lots of places to hide a body, I'm sure.

Another something I've read here that I just have to say is way over the top. Somebody said Jennifer hung at the Arcata plaza with thousands of other street people. Really, anyone who has been to Arcata knows that thousands of people don't hang out on the plaza. This area does put up with too much homeless, but thousands is such an overstatement, I'd be more likely to think there were possibly 50 homeless on the plaza and probably not on the plaza at the same time.

Even Robert Durst had a house in Trinidad sometime around 2000-2006 and I suspect his connections to this area are a lot older than that. In fact I always have felt that his wife that went missing has always looked familiar to me and I have always wondered if he and his wife had been in this area long ago. I believe she went missing in NY never to be seen again. I know who I think made her go missing!!

So we meet again Lilibet :seeya:

It was the article written by Billy Jensen that said there were thousands of people at the plaza. https://sites.google.com/site/billjens/longisland'slostgirls:flowerchildfrombaldwin

I still think Ernest Samuel Christie JR should be looked at. He was a local who killed Lysandra Turnip in 1988. His wife also is missing. Was missing and presumed dead after his boat capsized in 1977. However knowing if she was on the boat is a mystery. The only witness to that I believe is her own Hubby Ernie. I still think someone needs to reopen a lot of the cases and look at them now knowing what they do about him. Hes still my suspect in this case for Jennifer Wilmer.

Hello, I'm new to this site. I've been trying to find a thread for a missing woman from Alaska. Sabine Duellmann. I have a possible match for a Jane Doe in TN. I went on the unidentified thread and it won't let me post on there. If anyone would like to see Sabine and the Jane Doe here are the links:

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1703dfak.html

I tried to start a new thread under the Unidentified forum and it wouldn't let me. Do forums stop and close after a certain date? I was really hoping to discuss the possible match. Help! :banghead:

I read this article, and Wow, it explains a lot. Between the lack of law enforcement, and general culture of the area, its easy to see why crimes happen and people keep their mouths shut about it.

When looking through some of the Humboldt County records, I came across this article. I reminded me of those that had gone missing and have been found - dead/murdered/only remains. For a small population in a County - there have been many.

The dates span from 2001-2013 - not in the range of Jennifers disappearance - but a snapshot of the situation.

It makes me think Jennifer was murdered and has not been found - yet.
I am also hoping that remains that have not been identified are still in the process of hooking up with the DNA database.

Area media reports on missing persons:
Listed by date reported missing or when remains were discovered for those not reported missing in Mendocino and Humboldt counties.
Willitis News Article

Small extract from the article - The list is extensive.
Humboldt County:
April 2001:
Burgess Gene Kone, 55, of Bridgeville was reported missing and considered a possible homicide victim. June 2001, burnt and broken-up human remains were found in three locations along Highway 36. These remains were eventually identified as belonging to Kone and in 2004 Chester Evans, 36, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years 8 months in prison. Evans apparently killed Kone so he could grow marijuana on Kone's property.

July 2003:
Rex Donald Shinn, 32, of Loleta was reported missing. His remains were found on private land near Honeydew in January 2007. Forensics established Shinn had been shot serval times. The man accused of shooting Shinn was acquitted on first degree murder charges and the jury could not agree on second degree charges. The crime was considered marijuana related.

August 2003:
Chris Robert Giauque, 36, was reported missing after leaving Humboldt County on a trip to Spy Rock Road in Mendocino County. His father considers it a robbery-murder case. The possible homicide is considered marijuana related.

I had to quote this entry directly - very telling...

2006
near Weitchpec by police. A Hoopa woman told authorities she spotted the body months earlier but she didn't didn't report it becaus in Hoopa, "snitches go in ditches." Carlyle Blake, 29, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in 2009. This may have been methamphetamine related.

I wish the datatbase went back to 1990 :(

Respectfully Snipped By Me...
It was the article written by Billy Jensen that said there were thousands of people at the plaza. https://sites.google.com/site/billjens/longisland'slostgirls:flowerchildfrombaldwin

When I read that too, I thought - not well explained. I couldn't see 1000 people in that park either, but I think Jensen was trying to say that at the time there were many transient people in Alcata and over time they at some stage ended up visiting the park/Plaza - just not all at once ;) (IYKWIM)

It's good to run into you again, Rosebutter. :seeya: I'm glad you're here. You've got decades of Humboldt experience closer to where Jennifer disappeared. Mine is all SoHum a long time ago.

You're right that there is no way there are thousands on the plaza! Thanks for pointing that out.

Wayne Ford is interesting, especially if his time in Arcata goes back to the early nineties. I will go look.

:welcome6:

I hope you'll stick around, Dawn Remains, while you're adding to your post numbers.

I will check out your links.

Sadly, I think she took a ride with the wrong person, or came across the wrong property line. It takes nearly a hour for my 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to my family's house - all mud roads, straight up Ironside mountain. Trust me, if my family didn't escort me to their land - all the houses/properties I passed on my way might shoot me. For real.

Where have all the missing persons gone?
by Linda Williams
Daily Journal News. Read More...
For years rumors have abounded in Emerald Triangle tales of marijuana workers being buried in remote areas of the triangle as a result of business disagreements or greed.
-----
During the past eight (*since 2013) years Mendocino County has had slightly better success compared with the state average in closing missing persons reports filed with local law enforcement with a 6.1 percent unsolved rate. This still amounts to 74 adults unaccounted for, according to statistics filed with the California Department of Justice.

Humboldt County has substantially higher percentage of unsolved missing adults cases with a 17.1 percent unsolved rate, totaling 196 adults over the past 8 years.

How many?
They're not all listed in NAMUS then - if this is correct, my measly estimates of how many people are missing from this area are way out.
The article says the rate has dropped.
The percentage of unsolved cases for missing adults was 4.6 percent, the lowest rate since at least 1996.

Wonder what the actual figures of Missing People in the area Jennifer went missing actually was :(

I can start to see why Jennifer's case has remained cold.
How many parents and loved ones must be seeking answers!

.

Ford was questioned and ruled out because he was "in the Midwest at the time"-quoted from the Jensen article. I always wondered how they verified that, because he seems like such a likely suspect.
I also looked at Ronald Ward. He killed Kristen Laurite in Arkansas. She looked a little like Jennifer. She was on her way to California in a VW bus and was killed at a rest stop. Later, DNA confirmed that Ward killed 2 women in Merced and Modesto in 2000. Wonder where he was in 1993? Wonder if he had any ties to Eureka, Arcata, or Trinity County?

That's a really good thought! Especially since there aren't that many names that start with "O." Off the top of my head, I can only come up with Oliver and Oscar for male "O" names. And Otis.

Either that, or maybe he was a freckly redhead (like Mayberry Opie). I suppose it's too much to hope that fate sends us a ginger Grateful Dead fan named Otis P. who comes to WS to get something off his chest--

i thought she looked familiar too - but i think it's because (to me) she resembles karen carpenter... So for those of us in an older age range :-0, maybe that is what we are seeing...

i am from australa and i also thought i recognised her photo.

Well believe it or not Mingo may not have been nickname at all. I did happen to come across a Mingo who was Jennifer's age, that was living in Arcata in 1993. And not sure what is supposed to be done with the info, Call him and be like, Hey you know Jennfier Wilmer? Yeah I dont think so. But the fact is Maybe Mingo was not a nickname at all and his legal name. I also found an Opie of about the same age group. Opie was his real Legal name as well. However I don't find him in any public records living so far up north. He was from around the San Fransisco area. But what good is the information its not like I'm calling them to inquire.

Maybe her relative who is on here could reach out? That wouldn't be odd. She seems very anxious to find out what happened. That's good info.

Oh and another thought. Mingo also may have been short for Domingo.

And Jennifer's cousin hasn't been back for days. I do hope she comes back.

Hopefully she will be back soon especially since this is the featured case. Maybe you can PM her the info you have found.

The first 'serial killer' that popped into my head when I started reading this thread was Glen Edward Rogers.
He supposedly did his first kill in 1993 (In Ohio), but did end up going to California afterwards and killed again. (Then to MS and FL)

A while back he claimed to kill at least 70 people, then recanted saying it was "a joke". (Riiight!)

According to some of my research, the timing is wrong with him allegedly being in Ohio in 1993 but there were periods of time (months) when nobody knew where he was.

Then again, he claims to have killed Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman too.

Just a thought.

While I think the Christie serial killer angle is a good one, I feel it's more likely something happened at the house where she was living. My feelings are just based on the info in the "Charley Project" report which states there were conflicting reports as to where she was going when she left the house.

Were TDP, Mingo, Rebecca, Opie (former) students at HSU? Why were they living in Hawkins Bar?

The link below contains a good deal of info about Humboldt County, deadheads, marijuana and organic farming, and some crimes including the murder of Gary Summar. I haven't had a chance to read this in detail but thought I'd share.
