Checking in...nothing new. Sure was hoping for a positive update.

It's been 3 weeks since JB went missing. Here we are on page 43 of his thread. No updates. Heartbreaking.

Where are you JB?

:candle:

Thinking of John and his family everyday!

Still in my thought and prayers!

Yes, John is a veteran. I believe Joy said he did not see combat. The VA hospital in the vicinity of Lands End has been contacted. If you're asking for another reason, we're interested in any ideas.

I like the thought that he is somewhere "resetting" rather than giving up. :) I hope he phones home soon.

Just thinking that if JB were a regular patient at a VA they may not be inclined to notify you (even if you ask) if he goes in for services. In any case while exploring the possibility of him showing up there I would want to talk to the patient advocates office..(they work the hardest), the hospital adm. office, intake services (for a new patient), and the ER all separately unless someone can assure you that one or the other offices has clear access to all possible records of him visiting there.
And check with them periodically because again, they may or may not notify you or he may get over-looked.

The folder he was seen carrying may hold personal documents that he anticipated needing such as a DD214 necessary to prove eligibility for VA Hospital services or Veterans Group Home.

My father (who passed away on 2/27/95) was a veteran of 3 wars, and hearing that John is also a Veteran really tugs at my heartstrings. I spent a LOT of time at the Presidio and Letterman Army Hospital as a child when he was ill.

3 campaigns..that's fascinating. Probably WWII, Korea, and Vietnam?
I had lunch over the weekend with my 98 yr old Grandmother and her 93 yr old friend who was in WWII...they tell such fascinating stories of those times!

Yes, he enlisted on his 17th birthday, and was immediately deployed at the end of WWII. He never spoke of his service.
I remember him working closely with the VA advocate (from San Francisco) at our local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans in Monterey County after he retired out of Fort Ord. His DAV cap had 4 gold stars, 8 silver stars, and 10 bronze stars. I've recently requested his records, and am searching our files at home for a copy of his DD-214. He was only 66 when he died. :(

I believe this avenue (military background, the VA, etc.), is worth pursuing. The difficulty may lie in obtaining information (e.g. HIPAA). However, if the family has a PI working John's case, I have faith progress could be made.

Had John reached out / reconnected with any of them, or their families recently? Forgive the rambling post... I'm just thinking out loud here.

The radio silence is making me :banghead:

Where are you, Sir???

Tr I can only imagine the stories those two could tell. You are so fortunate to be able to share time with your GRANDmother and her friend.

My dad served in Korea and he never ever spoke about it. I wish now that I had questioned him about his service...he has passed on and I won't get an opportunity.
:tears:

Still here waiting for some news. Where are you JB? The pain and anguish the family and friends are going through, I can't begin to imagine. If wishing would make it come true, he would be home now. Sending UP thoughts and prayers.

I have been following this case in quiet amazement. I hope he is found, and I mean no disrespect to his family, but I cannot find it stated anywhere that John Nelson Beck wasn't fully involved in the get rich quick scheme that bears his name. In that vein I hold out hope that he has slipped away to start a new life. Why not? Sometimes people really can fool you. Just as the John Beck system fooled so many. This is only my opinion. I do hope he's safe and sound somewhere and if so that he finds a way to alert his loved ones.

I wish we could get some kind of update. Joy hasn't checked in on WS since the day of her last post almost a week ago. There has been no FB entry in a week. I hope this just means being busy rather than bad news, but it is worrisome. Here's hoping they are close to finding John and are quietly working.

I'm right there with you Lillibet....

I think they're still busy. There is a small update on the FB Page from JB's daughter. They have started a website http://findjohnbeck.blog.com/

That must be fairly common for older vets; my granddaddy was the same way. He joined the Navy prior to our involvement in WWII and was assigned to the naval ship, USS Salinas. A few months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, USS Salinas joined a convoy off the coast of Newfoundland, and almost immediately, German U-boats began firing torpedoes and two of them struck his ship. Thankfully, only one man was slightly injured during the attack, and the ship was eventually escorted by another naval ship to Brooklyn, NY for repairs.

But, my granny told me that my granddaddy's nerves were so shot when he returned home that he smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day (he no longer smoked by the time I was born)... but he never talked about his time in the service ever.

Sort of replying to my own post... when I followed the link to the youtube video, it also showed on the sidebar similar videos... and they were all of the singer Beck. Here's to hoping that the similarities in name will lead to more views for John Beck's video! If that makes any sense!

I hate to sound so confused and a bit crotchety, but the first blog post was 2/19 and today is the first we've heard about it? Right after asking for an update? I'm glad it's posted, but I'm not understanding what's happening or why we have been sitting here listening to crickets for a week, sending good wishes and wanting to help. I hope Joy is OK.

There is a request for help with online searches and outreach, and an email for volunteers who want to help. We could be helping with that here if we knew what was needed...while still maintaining our anonymity.

OT/ I love that word, crotchety! I've never heard it before and just looked it up. I'll have to start using that one.
:)

OT-- Ha! You must not be old enough to either know the word or BE crotchety since it's usually used along with "old"...which I am. :D
