With fire season here...I wonder if he set any non-related to homeless fires.
He should have known he'd be caught with this on his record.
Dangerous, Heartless, and Stupid.

His 2010 attack at Food 4 Less is walking distance from the trolley stop he was arrested at today.

I apologize for posting before getting caught up, but I had to say how incredibly happy I am to see an arrest has been made!! This case has been weighing very heavily on my heart. Thank you to everyone who broke the news and immediately started sleuthing :)

Being without a home is never easy, but I hope those in San Diego and the surrounding areas can sleep more peacefully tonight knowing this monster is locked up.

What a relief. I'm so glad they caught him before he attacked anyone else. Driving to work this morning, I didn't see the number of people sleeping on the street that I normally would. Lots of cops out, driving around the streets downtown. My work friends that take the trolley in from Chula Vista, and start work later than I do, said they noticed quite a few cops at the trolley stations. I wasn't at my office yesterday, but we look over the park where the last attack took place and my co-workers said the entire area was cordoned off for the investigation for most of the day. I haven't seen anything about the man that was attacked yesterday, except he wasn't expected to live. It's all so sad.

I have a "stupid" question please? How do homeless people keep up Facebook and other online media?

Library?
Computer?
Phone?

My thoughts are homeless people were just that...homeless with no monies.
I feel so ignorant when I think about these things.
When traveling to a larger town there's homeless people on every corner begging for money. Don't get me wrong they could be looking for drug/alcohol to purchase.

Just wondering how one certain deceased victim became homeless.

All sad 😪

Probably on cell phones or the library. Many homeless people get cell phones via the welfare system (they squat in parking garages and charge phones in there) here, plus public transit vouchers and other benefits as well. It's a hot button topic in California. I have to say...if you're going to be homeless, this is the place to be.

Police said Thursday that their suspect in the attacks likely used public transportation, and said trolley and bus stops throughout the region were being patrolled. The area where Padgett was arrested was near the H Street trolley station in Chula Vista.

Wonder what time he was nabbed.
Was he on the way to kill again?
What a despicable human being.
So thankful he was caught, so thankful.

Thank You SDPD, Father Joe's, All Agencies, and the whole Community.

If they get food stamps or Medi-Cal (SSI or SSDI) they can get a free "Obama-phone" with just a signature, My friend has one, a nice smartphone, with unlimited calls and texts, and wi-fi. I think there's a data limit, so she can't stream videos, I think. But there are hot spots everywhere to connect to the internet.

(BBM)I heard (on KUSI) that he was arrested at 10:30 this morning.

Several news stations showed him in the police car close up, and he spoke right into the mic. He seemed to be laughing as they drove him away.

Padgett told CBS News 8 cameras, "That's not me in the pictures. I'm innocent."

Padgett will face two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Good luck with that, klutch. Don't forget "Elliot" the store clerk who sold you the gas can and fuel will be able to identify you in court, and I'm sure Elliot will want to testify.

Watching local news CBS News8.

A press release with new information is expected out later tonight.

Adding to my post with an article and video:

Victim's Mother Calls Son's Killer a 'Monster'
Shawn Longley was found Monday morning on Bacon Street in Ocean Beach

http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...ly-Attacked-by-Suspect-Speaks--385912491.html

Shawn Longley, 41, was one of the victims - killed Monday in what investigators are describing as a "senseless" attack.

The death of Longley's father when he was 15 may have played a role in his homelessness, his mother Linda Gramlick told NBC 7 from her home in Florida.

She said a piece of him was also taken away when the state of North Carolina took his two girls. His daughters, 12 and 15, have been adopted.

Longley was Gramlick's only child, and she said he was a person who would never hurt anyone.

I also heard on the news in a later report that she wants to be here and intends to come to see her son's killer sentenced.

This is so evil. The poor homeless just sleeping and this monster stabs and sets them on fire. I hope he gets death penalty. Not sure if CA has it even. The worst of the worst type of criminal. Its bad enough to kill someone in a fit of rage for some reason but to kill innocent victims in this way and use fire is the worst of the worst and this is what death penalty was for.

I totally agree about the appropriateness of the death penalty in this case. As a side note, California does have the death penalty and murderers are still sentenced to death. A court ruling, however, essentially made it impossible for California to actually carry out excecutions. As a result, the California death penalty is really just a slightly more restrictive form of life without parole.

Many homeless people have some income, just not enough to pay for housing. At least that's often the case around New England.

Padgett says he's "not the one", but coming up on the 5:00 p.m. they promised to report how he said the same thing back in 2010 when he set his homeless friend on fire.

There is still a young man fighting for his life. Padgett's Victim #4 is only 23 yrs. old - somebody's son, brother, nephew, friend.

About 5 a.m. Wednesday, a 23-year-old man was gravely injured in the area of Broadway and State Street, and a towel he was sleeping under was doused with a flammable liquid and set ablaze, according to police. The victim, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized in grave condition and had a poor prognosis for survival, officials said.

I've lived here a long time.

With rents in San Diego fast increasing, the average one bedroom apartment is said to be about $1200 - $1500 a month. More affordable housing and rent control would help because it's definitely easy to become homeless in San Diego now.

MOO, the mayor needs to change his priorities some. Stop trying to hide the homeless and do something more to solve the growing problems. I can't imagine where I'd go to the bathroom if I was trying to live on the streets. Providing public bathrooms, not only for the homeless, but also for the tourists could be discussed further. I know that poses problems, but let's start talking solutions. Bathrooms are just as important as bike lanes. Like I said, MOO,

Agree, unaffordable housing and shrinking wages are a problem in many cities. Any mayor who is willing to support a Walmart or other employers who pay low wages should be willing to offer subsidized housing for these low wage workers. Cities and businesses need these workers, can't function without them. How can they expect them to live on the streets even though they're working regular jobs?

That's scary. But then we figured he was crazy to commit such horrible crimes.
