@Sillybilly @Tricia please adjust the title of the thread and move it to the correct place; she was born in 1977 and disappeared in 1996
Thanks, @Emi, for calling attention to the title and getting it corrected.
And thank you once again for the continuing coverage about Kristin.

Extremely disappointing that PF couldn't be sentenced to life in prison without parole. That's the least he deserves for this heinous crime. Going along with this, it's unfortunate that he will be eligible for parole in 15 years. I've heard of non-violent offenders receiving much harsher sentences than this. That being said:

-I understand that the judge imposed the maximum sentence she could under the law.

-And, it's extremely evident that if it hadn't been for CL's superb podcast - PF would still be walking around free today.

Didn't see this posted already, and thought it would be of definite interest here. This is an informative recent interview with CL and MS re: the verdict:

Upcoming Dateline special 9 pm EST Friday March 31:

<snipped>

The parents of murdered Cal Poly student Kristin Smart give their first network interview since their daughter’s killer was sentenced in an upcoming episode of NBC’s “Dateline.

In the two-hour special “Justice for Kristin,” Stan and Denise Smart open up about their frustration over the university police department’s handling of the initial investigation into Kristin Smart’s disappearance in 1996, according to a news release.

“The Cal Poly police took me aside and said, ‘You know, your daughter was doing some things that would put her at risk,’” Stan Smart tells “Dateline” correspondent Josh Mankiewicz in the special. “He was portraying to me that our daughter disappeared, and if she was dead, she’d brought it onto herself, which was totally wrong.”

IMOO Not much has changed with this attitude and victim blaming, though now more effort may be made to disguise it. MOO

I don't know how many watched it, but boy did it burn me up more than a few times. The local LE suggesting Kristin was 'promiscuous" was a slap in the face to those grieving parents. They knew who had done it and let the case sit there for over 25 years. Crazy

You can tell the toll it has taken on her parents, I feel so bad for them. I wish that scum ball PF would tell them where her remains are so they can lay her to rest properly before they pass.

I watched Dateline last night- it wasn't on the Kristin Smart case, it was on Lauren McCluskey (sp?) who was murdered at the University of Utah.
