I know he lived abroad and in Ohio.
Can anyone find a link to Utah or surrounding states?
Can anyone find an email address for a defective?
I don't have time right now but it's important.
Thanks!

Where on Earth was this guy for 45 years?

Also, it might just be because of the dates and locations of his victims, but I started to get a chill down my spine and wondered if he might possible be the Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Murderer, or at the very least committed some of them. If there is usable DNA, could it perhaps be compared?

I really hope that this discovery will lead to closing several more cases. But we need more than hope.

"What pushed John A. Getreu’s to murder? With Getreu now tied to two slayings, in 1973 and 1974, California authorities are reconstructing his backstory. Getreu, 74, attracted no police attention between 1975 and 2018. But there’s a good chance he might’ve committed crimes between those years, says Rick Jackson, a retired Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective who now serves as a cold case investigator with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s hard to rein in that impulse if you’re enjoying what you’re doing,” says Jackson, whose work helped lead to charges filed this month against Getreu in one of the ’70s murders. “And he enjoyed what he was doing.”

But why did he enjoy what he was doing? Jackson says police don’t yet know. That’s why they’re looking beyond California and the ’70s cases.

They’re even going back toward 1963, when Getreu murdered the 15-year-old of a U.S. Army chaplain an American military base in Germany. As told in this space days ago, that victim was the sister of the current pastor of a church in Sunnyland. Investigators are looking at that case and the ’70s slayings to seek a common motive, as a way to perhaps find similarities with other unsolved homicides."

Getreu eluded detection for over four decades, even after he was convicted of raping an underage girl in Palo Alto in 1975, long before criminal DNA collection was instituted. In 1964, an 18-year-old Getreu was convicted of raping & killing a 16-year-old girl in Germany, where his father, a U.S. Army sergeant major, was stationed. The victim was the daughter of an Army chaplain also stationed there. He was tried as a juvenile & eventually returned to the United States after serving a short sentence.

11/26/18 Update: Getreu did not enter a plea & is being held without bail in the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Scheduled to return to court Dec. 17. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, but could be eligible for parole, however unlikely that might be, after seven years because he would be subject to 1973 sentencing guidelines.
1/2/19 Update: Next hearing on 1/31/19. 1/31/19 Update: Plea hearing on 3/28. 3/29/19: Plea hearing rescheduled for 5/21. Plea hearing continued to 7/15.

Man accused of 1974 cold-case killing near Stanford campus pleads not guilty
John Arthur Getreu denies first-degree murder charge for the death of Janet Ann Taylor

Jun 14, 2019

"A 74-year-old Hayward man accused of murdering two 21-year-old women whose strangled bodies were found on Stanford University property about a year apart in the 1970s pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in one of the cases on Friday....

Getreu was also arrested last November by Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies in connection with the death of Stanford graduate Leslie Marie Perlov and has not yet entered a plea in that case. Perlov's body was found on Feb. 13, 1973 under an oak tree on Stanford land in an area now known as The Dish....

Getreu has been held without bail in the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose since his arrest, but authorities have transported him to the San Mateo County Hall of Justice in Redwood City for hearings in the Taylor case. The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office charged Getreu with Taylor's murder on May 16. Investigators in both counties are collaborating, San Mateo County Assistant Sheriff Gregory Rothaus said during the press conference announcing the charges....

Getreu will appear in Santa Clara County Superior Court in San Jose on July 15 to enter a plea. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in San Mateo County Superior Court on Nov. 4."

I am interested in this case. Wondering if there are additional victims. Wondering if he quit in the 70’s or later?!
