I'm guessing he was homeless too. I can't find any missing person that could be this John Doe. Hopefully somebody somewhere is looking for him

The state of his face could be due to lividity patterns/post-mortem settling of the body. If he died while he was sleeping on his side under the bench, and not found for many hours, his face might be disfigured like that.
