Still thinking of Mari everyday, checking in atleast twice a day hoping for a status change for "found".

I think the best we can do for Mari during the "quieter" times without any accessible new information is to think about her, her circumstances and try not to get the same tunnel vision that police may get. Yes, Routine Activity theory may say due to Mari's lifestyle and habits a crime of a certain nature could of happened or one may assume an overdose. At this point, we know pieces of details up until poof.. this beautiful woman is gone.

Just as importantly, we are continuing to look at these other sad individuals who are missing, for reasons we are also unsure of. We all do this for a "hobby", with a greater purpose. We want to help and we want to make a difference. On this thread Mari is the focus. But if in the mean time, if we can find patterns that the cali police are too close to see, we are still doing it in all of these individuals honor.

Praying Mari is safe somewhere, just wrapped up in some of her own mistakes. Will go to sleep tonight hoping for that "found" status change.

ETA: mistivon please feel better soon! Take some time for you!

Ok, I haven't read every post because I can barely lift my head off the pillow...I got really sick, really fast and am prone to intubation when my asthma gets bad.
However, I was directed here and just wanted to explain. There is a reason that I asked for those three particular locations. I am not saying ALL these women are connected and yes, some or many may be voluntarily missing.
BUT, there could also be trafficking or other issues involved. From other things I know about this case and some key players, I certainly did not want to disregard that angle. Certainly, MG made many bad choices, as have a lot of us, but I can't rule out every angle until they are, well, ruled out. If I see five girls with long, dark hair, Hispanic or Oriental, with her body style, missing in January from one location and five of the same in February from a different location and five in March from a different location, it would also be foolish NOT to look at them. That is why I asked for the map. I have not had time to review it and narrow it down and I probably won't tonight either. People with similar lifestyles as Mari's are not just prone to overdosing or running away, they are also easy targets for trafficking rings or serial killers. I am not saying either are the case. I'm saying it was my idea to look at different angles as an option.
I very much appreciate the map and all the other information I have been given. I very much appreciate the positive discussion and theorizing. I would appreciate it if all theories and speculation could remain important and valid until we know otherwise.
I'm going back to bed and I will address this more tomorrow if I need to.
I certainly didn't mean to cause any hurt feelings or make anyone feel less than vital because everyone is.

<modsnip> I did say the the map outlining missing women across the state is great, but did question if any of the women could have gone missing on their own, or its suspected there is a known suspect. If we look at every missing person of the same hair color or brown complection without counting all of the other missing persons, whos hair color, ages, complection, and race might be different then that of MG'S , the accuracy of compiled data might be an inaccurate gauge for generating an accurate suspect profile. Yes, it could be a person or persons who are abducting Latino and Asian women of the same stature for unknown reasons. What I asked was where would all these women be? What could the motives be to take so many women who have brown skin from the same area? We've discussed the HT theories, but those were related to the Eastern European and drug dealer connections she had. We've discussed the RSO in the neighborhood and debated how it would be possible for one older man to abduct and control MG while smashing a phone, removing the battery and sim, then dragging MG away without being spotted. We've debated the X and Uncle, hence New Mexico still being looked at, and now debating a serial killer hypothosis. Hopefully none of these end up to be true and hopefully the other missing women are found safe and anyone responsible is brought to justice. How about the theory that these women are being sold for body parts???? If the only women missing from the area are all from the same demographic or social background and the same age or ethnicity than there could very well be a specific market. Just another theory.

Not only is that possible, it is also possible that they are being sold as "wives" to foreign men. Now tell me that's not out there. BUT, that is very, very much a possibility...so much so that I spent much of Monday and Tuesday poring over those bride sites. I seriously expected to find some of our missings. Not just selling the girls for a little at a time but generating a MASSIVE amount of income for each one. Another dark, hidden facet of our country :(

Ugh!!! What's frightening is, these missings can and very well could be on those sites. Through research ( and, in hindsight, common sense) I've found that many escorts used pictures of women who look similar to, but aren't really them... these crooks probably have enough sense to keep that much hidden..... so much secret ugliness in the world... so much we don't even know about!

Exactly why I brought up the Eastern European connection without giving too much away. It was the first thing I mentioned to you when I became aware of the ethnicity of said persons. Instantly pictured her on a cargo ship for European slavery. That's what those people specialize in outside of stolen identity and hacking. I worry that if those people are involved then they would already have a client and most likley wouldn't be listing her in a free market especially with all the media attention.

Your going to kill yourself if you don't take a break and get some rest. Sometimes things fall into place when you step back and let nature do its thing, that is unless you had a gut a feeling to look today, then I would say keep searching, ha.

So this kidnapping in Sylmar.....there was just no resolution? A girl bound in a van, three suspects and we hear nothing else?

Mistivon, I hope you start to feel better! Please take of yourself.
I wish I could have found more information regarding the circumstances of why some of these women are missing. But, half of them are just listed on the missing site with their last known location and there's nothing else. It's actually really sad. Initally they weren't even a part of the map. But last minute I added them because their proximity was so close to so many others...Whether that has any relevance or not.

Yes hopefully tomorrow, I can do some digging. You can actually find a good bit of information on some of them from social media...as in Mari's case, the media is not typically interested in girls "like her" that go missing.
I'm about done for the day and will start again tomorrow. Thanks for your concern and your awesome map. It will really help :)

I did not see any follow ups. I can't help but wonder if the girl could be one of the many missing women we've listed.

The illegal organ trade has at times led to murder for body parts, because of a worldwide demand of organs for transplant and organ donors. At times, criminal organizations have engaged in kidnapping people, especially children and teens, with the victims being killed and their organs harvested for the illegal organ trade. One human body on the black market can top $500,000.00.

I would say she doesn't fit our profile, but does that seriously say she's missing from LA and goes to school in where? ALBUQUERQUE? Crazy

Sounds like she went away to college.

Was it ever mentioned if Maricela had any tattoos??

I don't remember one being mentioned, but I also don't remember the question being asked before. excellent work on the map BTW thanks so much.

I remember seeing/hearing a statistic about Missing people that most of them turn up after 24 hours, or are relatively quickly resolved.

Googled this and quickly found, for example:

from:
http://www.npr.org/2013/05/07/182000622/majority-of-missing-persons-cases-are-resolved

"In 2012, we had 661,000 cases of missing persons; and that's just from that one year. Very quickly, 659,000 of those were canceled. So that means those persons either come back; in some cases, located as deceased persons, maybe never an unidentified person; or just a total misunderstanding. So at the end of 2012, of those 661,000 minus the canceled, we had 2,079 cases that remained at the end of the year as unresolved."

It would be interesting to know, in terms of the statistics/percentages, if this map represents a normal number of people to go missing, and statistically how many of them SHOULD have shown up by now if this was a normal pattern. If that makes sense, not sure if i have explained it very well.

My brain isn't working that well today but i could try and do some maths based on percentages. How live is the map? are you updating it daily with further missing, and if people are found? is there something others could do to help assist with that workload?

I haven't updated the map yet today but do plan to. I have a list of women I missed that others have posted. I also am working on getting more information regarding why they have been reported missing (runaway etc)
