officials are looking for a missing 41-year-old man whose rental car was reported overdue.

A search for Maximillian L. Schweitzer, who goes by “Max,” started Jan. 4 when his rental vehicle was found at Camp 4, near Yosemite Valley Lodge.

Schweitzer is a white man with brown hair and blue eyes. He is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. Officials do not know what he was wearing or where he was traveling.


Park officials were not immediately available for comment. If you have information about Schweitzer, call 209-379-1992.

Does he work for Homeland Security as a clandestine analyst?!? -that is what his LinkedIn account says- I thought staff in those positions could not release that info in social media for safety reasons. Apologies if I am wrong, this bit of information has surprised me a lot.

Camp 4 is near the starting point for the Yosemite Falls Trail. From there he could have hiked to lower or upper yosemite Falls, North Dome or Yosemite Point. My husband just did this hike. Many hikers go unprepared without enough food, water or clothing. It’s been very cold lately. Here is a map. https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/yosemitefallstrail.htm. Currently the weather is cold and snow is expected. There are areas that people can go off trail and falls, slip or get lost. It’s going to be imperative to find him ASAP.

I’m not sure how legit the LinkedIn bio is. Some of the overlapping positions don’t make sense; the connections one would expect aren’t present; and although HS people can have SM accounts, I question that job title.
