Derran was 14 when he disappeared in 1973 which would have made him 19 by the time this JD was presumed to have died. And the height discrepancy, which you said. But geez they look SO SIMILAR, I suppose it can't hurt? The nose.. the eyes... the mouth... wow.

I know that the dates are way off, but I couldn't help but noticing that the unidentified boy looks like Mark Wendell Wilson who was 13 when he disappeared.

I know the estimated time of death would have to be considerably off, but I noticed that when Mark Wilson disappeared, it said that he was going to a movie. Was he going with someone and, if it was a female, has she been accounted for?

I'm not sure if they have been suggested yet but how about Donnis Redman and her boyfriend Michael James Griffen, who went missing in 1958. It suggests they may have eloped.

The estimated time of death would have had to wrong though. Just thought I'd mention them because they are a missing couple from the Californian area.

Michael Griffin was 18 which is a couple of years above the male UID's age estimate and they'd have to explain how their car ended up in Williams, but stranger things have happened.

Read this in the local paper today and was glad to find a thread on this...

This case is very close to my heart. I lived about 10 miles away from where these bodies were found in 77 and 78, and part of 79.

I know that area very well. There were many communal family habitats out in those woods and a lot of kids lived back in there. Some of them young runaways and a lot living with their families, but having very little 'responsible' parenting going on. Pot was the most abundant crop out there. So people were secretive and defended their property from trespassers quite vigorously.

There were a lot of other drugs going around out there too, like LSD, coke, psyllicibin, shrooms, speed. It is possible the kids od'ed and the locals needed to bury them without reporting it.

And many of the local hippie kids were off the grid and under the radar.

Their 'excellent teeth' made me think they might have been local hippie kids because these families ate little or no sugar or processed food and grew fresh food themselves.

My gut just keeps telling me they might have been local kids from the woods there, from one of the many communes. But the extra tooth really throws me off from that.

There was a cold case opened in New Mexico for Mary Lou Sena and Billy Sena. They are smaller than the height they have but seeing as they believe that the unidentified are closely related and these two are cousins who went missing together. Just a long shot.

I thought the exact same thing. This needs to be looked at.

Mary Lou and Billy went missing in September of 1979 and these bodies were found in July as skeletal remains. This, aside from the fact that Mary Lou and Billy are too young, and hispanic.

I'd like to see a rule out list, too.

Interesting piece on this case on BBC program (warning, skeletal remains shown): http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18529366

found via Mendicino County's page: http://www.mendocinosheriff.com/missing/coldcases.html on UIDs (who are still not in NAMUS).

Aside from the impacted wisdom teeth, the report says the lack of complete skull bone fusion indicated their age.

Based on some reading, wisdom teeth and skull fusion is usually complete by age 25...meaning they may be a bit older than indicated.

Thus, I am curious as to whether Linda Lovell (LKA 1974) https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/9136/183 and her companion, Stephen Packard have been compared https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/show/14418.

Linda (other photos in her NAMUS image section) and Stephen definitely have an uncanny resemblance, and went missing from Mendicino County in 1974. They were hitchhiking through CA on their way up to Seattle, WA and last heard from/seen/cashed traveler's check in Mendicino.

There are some definite dissimilarities, but I think its worth a suggestion if someone is in touch with CA LE, if only to get it on the county sheriff's radar in case they do discover more remains in the area.

Reading through their cold cases, there were two murders around 1973 and 1974 of a young male and young female who have a resemblance to John and Jane. Probably unconnected, but is does raise the hinky meter.

CarlK, I know you have been in touch mostly with the MP LE on possibles for this case, but any chance you have reached out to CA LE?

No, I have not communicated at all with Mendocino County LE.

Happy to email, unless someone prefers to reach out by phone. Not much of a phone person...

I don't know if he has already been mentioned, but I can't get over the incredible similarities of the UID and this missing person, Darren (Derran) Rogers. His age is exact but his height is way off, but I instantly thought of this UID when I saw his photo...

What do you think?

I actually came across this case yesterday on my own and reported the similarities too! Great minds. :)

here are a side by side of linda and stephen. doing a layover ala excel (thanks, CarlK for the method) its uncanny...

i did some additional looking yesterday, looks like they were found off highway 20 near mile marker 21. For some reason, I was picturing I-5 like terrain, but reading the details in old press reports, it would appear their scattered remains were found on an embankment, slope.

This highway (between Willits & Fort Bragg) runs through forest service lands, and is really hilly with steep 7 mile grades. Its really windy, with lots of "blind" corners and also lots of turnouts.

After finally finding marker 21, I would guess the car was going westbound (just IMHO) towards Fort Bragg.

Apparently, in 72/73 time period there were a series of hitchiker murders about 110 miles south of Fort Bragg in Santa Rosa.

Linda last made contact with her parents via postcard sent from Stinson Beach. That means, if they were hitching via 101, they would have gone through Santa Rosa & Willits to Westport (where Stephen's traveller's check was cashed).

Jane and John were found some distance from Santa Rosa victims, but the method of disposal was similar. Without knowing COD (has anyone seen that?) hard to compare that, but Santa Rosa victims were, in many cases, found without possessions/clothing (anyone heard anything about John & Jane clothing aside from earrings?)
